Open letter to Riot : don't release "this" Vaarus new splash

(By advance, excuse my bad English, I hope you will understand well anyway.)

Riot, please, I come here to beg you. Don't release this horrible splashart, keep at least what remains of Varus.

I'm a main Varus. Not a really good player in LoL really, but very attached to his lore and Runeterra's. I saw reworks coming and what arrived exceeded all my fears. Ahri, Warwick, Evelynn, changed a lot. But even with a different story, they kept their own personality. What you've done here is just entirely destroying Varus. You didn't only rework his lore, you transformed it, you transformed him, you completely changed his personality.

Varus was a beloved husband, more of all, a beloved father. One of the greatest warriors in Ionia. He fought to keep his mind, event if his main goal was revenge. I choose him because he had so much emotional potential. I wrote novels about his story, about his choice, how he was living during the Ionian war. Hundred and hundred of pages. Now Vaarus is no longer a humain, he's a cruel darkin, with a body shared with two random hunters. Even being together, these humans are weak compared to the Guardian. They will never overcome the emotional potential of a father's love.

That's my point of view on his new lore, entirely destroyed to build something new but bland and flat to my eyes.

Now why do I insist on his new splash ? I agree that the new Vaarus might be represented. But why this way ? His body is the same as he previously was, his skin doesn't change a bit, as we saw it in the video "As we fall". So why choose a so different appearance ?

  • His torso is far more larger that he was. Powerful ? Sure, but he's an archer, not a bruiser... He deserved to stay thin, as he still is in the video.
  • All his skin, and especially the classic one, present his bow in first plan. The bow is still what is important with this character, if not more than before, as the darkin weapon. Why does it appear in the back ?
  • He miss a dynamic composition as the others, filled with movement. Even the new Vaarus needs this, his fight against the lovers justify it enough.
  • I might say also that he should appear beautiful, and he is not. But that is purely subjective.
  • Compared to the last splashes for recent champions (Zoe, Ornn, Kayn), the style seems weird. And doesn't fit the character at all. Awesome, powerful, beautiful. Couldn't have you done better ?

I found this topic, and I can't agree more : https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/vQUUcVZw-can-we-talk-about-this-new-varus-splash

His splash, his voice, is all what remains to him. Don't waste what he used to be. Please take that into consideration.

{quoted} Ahri, Warwick, Evelynn, changed a lot. But even with a different story, they kept their own personality.

Wait what? Old Warwick was an evil monster who loved to kill and hurt others.

New Warwick is a man who tried to better himself and now tries to use his transformation for the good of Zaun.

Riot is taking notes and not replying to Varus feedback. They are going to shove it down, and you just have to take it.

I think that you make valid points about the new splash art even if you are biased towards the old lore... I mean, why the bow is on the background when that is an important part of the character (even more now that he is a darkin)?

Thanks for your support. It's a shame if they don't take comments in consideration. Even if in here, I think there are as many people who love the new as many who hate it. Difficult to see through that. But I think those who love it don't care about his lore, even as a darkin. If he's "beautiful", I don'tfeel attracted by him anymore. I think I will have to change my OTP ( ^^' ) even if I will continue to write for him.

My bad, I maybe should have say "personality and identity" (not really true anyway). Varus is not the first one they transform, but he kept nothing in commun with the previous one. Warwick's still an improved human (if I can tell that so), as Varus is not longer the human being.

I bet you understand what I mean. If you are a man Warwick and felt hurt by his rework, I'm sorry for you too. You are able to understand my feelings very well.
