Anyone else love the mythology of some of the characters?

I'm brand new to league only got into it a few days ago but so far I'm LOVING Kindred. Looked up um...the catfish guy and the aatrox guy too? Other mythological beings like Kindred and i'm loving it so much.

I honestly wanna adopt Kindred as my regular depiction of Death, even outside the game lol. It's just THAT good of a concept. and Tahm Kench as a kind of con man Boogeyman is awesome. Aatrox as a kind of underdog reversal Nike is a cool concept too!

Kindred TahmKench Aatrox

What are some of the other characters who are part of the actual mythology? There's so many its hard to go down them one by one.

I'm a HUGE fan of mythology in general, loving greek, roman, chinese, japanese, christian, hindu, etc etc mythological characters and creatures. Its why I got into Smite (Which in turn, lead me to League). So I also love "fictional" mythologies (Leave the wording at that, please, its already a touchy distinction) like League has built for itself. Hell I keep up with Digimon because you could write a college thesis on any one monster design there due to all the mythological and historical references in a lot of the designs.

I do, it's what makes them legends. And I love it.

What I don't like is Riot making everything in the world magic. For all we know, aatrox could be the result of magic.

Essentially all of the Shuriman champions are based off of Egyptian mythology, so their lore is pretty cool. Nocturne is a classic, evil shadow monster, while Kalista is an interesting take on the avenger role. If you have the time, I would recommend reading the Shadow and Fortune story on the Universe page.

I adore Kindred, even though I don't play them. The two faces of death is an amazing concept. And Tahm Kench... the archetype of the crossroads demon is nothing new, but a crossroads demon in the form of a bloated texan catfish with an affinity for unsual similes? He's such a unique character, and is delightfully disturbing in all sorts of ways.

Another part of the League's mythology I find unique is the faith of Nagakaborous, represented through Illaoi. The thing I find interesting about this religion is that Illaoi wants you to follow your dreams, regardless of what they are. Whether you aspire to commit regicide or adopt a kitten, Illaoi supports you either way. She really defies the usual alignments of "good vs bad" and "law vs chaos".

I actually much prefer the more down to earth characters. Not that I mind the others, they're just not really my thing.

Which was super annoying to me when they took one of my down to earth characters and rewrote him into a really boring legend.

I mean I can appreciate the lore around Kindred even if it's not my thing. But some of them are not as good.

Look up Bard, Aurelion Sol, Illaoi, Pantheon, Leona, Diana, Taric, Nasus, Renekton, Xerath, Azir and Sivir.

This region is sparingly based on Greek mythology, with its twist being that tribe can gain celestial power at the peak of the tallest mountain in runeterra effectively becoming 'demi-gods'. I main Pantheon who was re-written to be a warrior that gave his body to host the 'god of war' unlike the others who are 'demi-god' status. Don't expect much from his game play though, they need to change his kit.
