Though I do not see many people playing Maokai, I personally love the twisted treant. Currently, his older skins look incredibly outdated, and with all the skin splash art updates, I think that his splash arts should see some changes in the near future.
Since Maokai was somewhat recently given a visual update, it's very likely he's gonna get a splash update sometime soon. The wait may be a little long, since they've got the splash art unification, Taric's update, and a good handful of other splashes they're reworking (current three closest to release of their reworked splashes are Nidalee, Trundle, and Tristana), but give them time, and I know they'll give the Treant justice.
