New Ionian Juggernaut "Sett" Theories

So just today there was a loot asset added to the PBE called "Sett's Calling Card" the info on the loot states: ""Gained by impressing Sett. Openable on January 14th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. PT."

I've noticed the design looks very familiar and low and behold the teaser image of the Ionian Juggernaut features a similar head design on the Lamp/Pavilion.

My Theory: Sett is an Ionian bat. Using fiery powers that illuminate him to store forces while tanking hits before unleashing the heat onto his enemies.

If he is a bat he could be hiding inside the lamp/pavilion, waiting for his cue, dropping down, having a wrestler/hero entry also if he uses fire/heat he could be the light source lighting up the pavilion.

That's probably for Lunar Reveal and its a rat head because next year is year of that rat. It likely has nothing to do with the juggernaut's design or anything, with only the name having any significance.

This is pure speculation, but could this mean the new Champ is somehow rodent-like? He looks to be associated with the next Lunar Revel after all.

Otherwise I'll be extremely disappointed if Twitch doesn't get a skin.

The only thing I'm taking from it is that he'll come out during or right before/after Lunar Revel. So fairly soon. Truly a champion-per-month

It's the end of January. Aphelios comes out on like December 11th or so according to the client. Assuming the champ comes out at the start of the event, it might not be 30 days between champs but it's still a month between champs. Besides, it was just a joke about how often they pump out new champs.

Well, this year it was the end of January. Before that it was February. It's really whatever they feel like honestly.

Lunar Revel is to celebrate the Lunar New Year (often called Chinese New Year) so it happens sometime around the Lunar New Year. Riot doesn't control the lunar calendar, its just something that falls on different days every year.

Is Sylas pig-like? No, but he was still in this year's Lunar Reveal for year of the pig. Just because they're being released during an event associated with an animal doesn't mean they have anything to do with said animal.

And rats aren't really known for, you know, being jacked, fire-wielding fist fighters that work alone. And since the Vastaya seem to have personalities reflective of what animals they are, I would imagine that a rat Vastaya would be more timid and stealth oriented, yet social.

I was just going by the fact that "Sett's Calling Card" has some kind of rodent symbol. Its not "Twitch's Calling Card".

Again its just pure speculation. I've seen other people speculating he's a badger, and even though badgers are mustelids and not rodents, I could easily see a badger Champ having a "Rat Skin". Badgers are also known for being kind of rough and gruff, especially the internet's perception of honey badgers.

But you're right. Not all Lunar Revel skins relate to the year's zodiac animal. Year of the dog we got two dogs and a Lux. It just kind of depends on what Riot feels like doing.

Twitch will definitely get a Lunar Revel skin next year, no doubt about that. Even if this new champion would represent the rat thematic, they can always put in 2 champions to represent the Zodiac. Just like Warwick and Nasus both got skins in the year of the dog.

Considering the card is called "Sett's Calling Card" and has the literally same design as the teaser, I seriously doubt it is unrelated.

The thing is that the name Sett is dropped and we don't know anyone named Sett yet, so it could be the new champ. The symbol on the card also looks like its the same animal on big lantern in the teaser image

Why would that appear as an Asset on the PBE far before anything for the champion is even known?

They generally put items on the PBE that are like this when they relate to an upcoming event. Since there is one in December...

Then what would the name Sett refer to then? I mean the name has no connection to anything else, so the most likely guess is that it refers to a new champ. Besides we had champion teasers for champs that come out on a later cycle in the past. Bards symbols started appearing on the rift before Bard was even revealed.

Besides its color scheme doesn't look like the night&dawn aesthetic at all and its appearance doesn't refer to anything for that event, it looks much more like something for the lunar revel

I doubt we will be seeing another champion that soon after we literally just got two of them. I mean Sylas did come out during lunar reveal this year but that doesn't mean anything. Sett is just something relating to an event since again it's a loot asset. The "name" could just be something related to the lore of an event.

It says " openable on January 14th, 2020" afterall, so it's something obviously gained before then that you will have to hold on to. Lunar revel has generally been much later in January to early Feb (usually between happening some time around Jan 25th or February 10th)

People were already doubting that we'd get Aphelios this year, yet he comes out in the next patch. Riot tends to release one big release

Openable on january 14th means that the card is likely NOT received before then, because then it'd mean that people could earn a piece of loot, that they can't open, which would be really weird.

Eitherway you still haven't given any explanation about what else "Sett" should refer to. It's a new name on an asian looking card, when we know that a new champ from ionia is coming.

And like I said, it is possible that the champ will be revealed one patch after the card hits the live servers, so if this card comes out on january 14th, then the champ might be only revealed on january 28th, in which case he'd be released in febuary.

But it IS received before then or it makes no sense for it to say that. It's for something special that they haven't done before.

And I did say what the name could be related too, but that requires reading. Also that card is far from Asian imo, it looks like a bat

Saying that the name would be just related to the lore of an event, seems rather vague though. I mean why would a lorecharacter, one related to an alternate universe, be the central focus for this?Especially if its not a new champion, in which case "Sett" would likely be a rather minor character to all the other night/dawn-champs. And why does the card look nothing like the night/dawn-theme that the event is based around? There is also no character related to bats in that event, so the card design doesn't make sense in that regard either. The note about you being unable to open it until january the 14th could also be just there so that people on the pbe don't get confused about being unable to open it, specifically because it isn't supposed to be opened before that. And even if we do get it before, it might still be supposed to relate to the reveal of the champ, meaning that the champ would be revealed around the 14th of january and only be released at the end of january.

Also just because it looks like a bat, doesn't mean it can't look asian. But it generally doesn't make any sense for a event item to appear a month and a half to two months before an event.

Plus 2020 is the year of the Rat.. so why would something that has a Bat design get released for that? Cause of that is a rat, Riot is way off.

We shouldn't see lunar revel content till 10.1 or even 10.2 depending on the timing for Riot. The Chinese New year that it revolves around is Jan 25th afterall.

Riot is soon gonna enter their "end of the year"-pause. The next patch will likely be the last one this year and the first patch next year will likely not even come out until january(possibly not even until the end of january, like this year). So we'll have like ~1 month, if not more, without updates.

Besides if the next champ is bat-themed, then it'd make sense that the card is bat-themed regardless if this is for the lunar revel or not, the champs teaser would simply take priority over the lunar revel theme(or the calling card is for the time before the lunar revel)

Yes, that's what I was saying. 9.24 is the last one of the year, so we won't see anything for awhile, but still if it's related to a new champion and it's on the PBE NOW why isn't he? Hmm?

Maybe like I said, we can gain it during the upcoming event, and then use it later? Since again it clearly says openable ON a certain date.

Like I said, we might get the REVEAL of the champ with these calling cards, not the champ itself. After all the calling card preceeds the actual event. So the reveal of the champ might correlate with the time where the calling card can be used, meaning that the champ would be revealed in january(which would be the time where they hit the PBE) and only get released in febuary.

And still like I said, I still believe we will get this piece of Loot sooner as it can be opened on Jan 14th. That leads to believe it is gotta be part of something soon. You get it say now, then hold on to it for something that happens on the 14th of January.

If it's not part of something like that then it'd be patched out.

Might be, yeah. I'm just triggered with the rat comments because that emblem looks nothing like a rat. Y'know, with rats not having pointy fangs and such. An interesting take I saw in the mains reddit (it's already a thing), is that the emblem, supposing it's tied to the new champ, actually represents a fictional badger. The poster's theory revolves around three points mainly:

  1. The leaked name, "Sett", specifically means "badger's burrow" in english
  2. In the October roadmap, the new Jugg was teased as someone that dwells in the Ionian UNDERGROUND
  3. The emblem somewhat resembles a (quite liberal I admit) take on an angry badger. Also I should add that his outwards fangs are usually a trait of animals that can dig well, like boars or pigs.
  4. Also this op points to the similarity between the leaked emblem and the shape in the teaser pic.

Overall I'd say that's a hefty amount of material for theory and prediction. Hell, people had figured out Aphelios was going to be a Lunari even before he was teased in the roadmap, based on the etymology of his name alone.

Yeah it's possible. It doesn't look like a rat so if it were for the lunar revel it'd be way off as it is the year of the Rat.

As for a badger, I dunno about that one. Still looks more like some kind of Bat, at least on the card. The one in the teaser kind of has a badger feel; some kind of demon badger at least.

I still think the badger theme is the most plausible if we take into account what little we have. I even found some pics of angry badgers that look mighty feral

In the meantime, I even found another interesting take, that we're actually looking at a hyena themed character, since the teaser mentions that the champ laughs as he tanks damage. That one's pretty far fetched though.

Hmm a Hyena.. Actually now that you mention that I can kind of see it. Long neck, the pointed ears and fangs. It could be one of those as well. The more I look at it I'm actually liking the Hyena idea now.. ugh. Dunno what this creature is anymore.

i like threads like this one. and yeah this head looks very similar to a bat imho. they promised us more beast and less human champs and since we got Qiyana Senna and now Aphelios its about time. and a toplane beast champ would be dope as fuck.

i just know he will be from ionia and shell be played similar to darius. so my hopes are high cause i like darius and bruisers are my thing.

i am really not great in this but: his q could be a bite make the enemy bleed for a certain duration, healing from it and marks them (bleed will only do dmg if the enemy moves), w could be a smashing on the ground (since its more a bat mutant brute kinda thing) which knocks up for 0.5 sec and slow them for 50% for 2 sec., e could be a short flight similar distance to reksai underground e (can fly over small and medium walls), ult could ve him turn himself into a cloak of dust and fire, slowing attackspeed and dmg enemies - he also consumes all his sucked blood to gain size, aswell as armor and magic res. his passive? idk yet

Also that's bad in term of visibility A tank has to logically be a big buffy champ so you visually recognize him. Even Poppy looks way bigger than Teemo.
