Mandatory Email Verification

Hey All,

A few months back we announced our plans to roll out mandatory email verification later this year.

There was an initial grace period, where players without a verified email address were notified of the upcoming need to verify through a pop-up message in game. We are now transitioning from that optional notification to mandatory verification, which means you will need to have a verified email before you are able to continue playing the game.

The primary intention for this is to provide better account security as well as to unlock future functionality like multifactor authentication and automated account recovery.

To make sure the process is as smooth as possible, we will be rolling out mandatory verification for a test group of players in NA/EUW/EUNE while the remaining unverified players will continue to see the optional notification. Once we've confirmed the initial tests work, we will expand the test group until it becomes mandatory for all NA/EUW/EUNE players.

If you have issues preventing you from verifying, you can contact player support here. Select the request type, "I need help with Account Management". For general info about email verification, check out our Knowledge Base article here

multifactor authentication

Get this shit out of here.

Idiots that give away their accounts will still do so. Everyone else will just be annoyed beyond belief every time they have to jump through hoops, dig in their spam folder or wait for delayed messages.

Please fuck off this shit. It does nothing to help us.

Fair warning

You try to enforce me to verify on an email address i used 4 - 5 years ago to register this account we will have problems

I WILL NOT VERIFY IT AND I WILL NOT BUY ANY MORE OF YOUR PRODUCTS

So far i've spent up to 1000$ (Maybe more) on league alone

If you want to enforce email verification on NEW accounts by all means But kindly fuck off when it comes to veteran accounts

THANKS*[slayer-jinx-wink]*

The next step is going to be Cellphone verification.. Keep in mind there might be a large number of your player base that only has one cellphone for the whole family (that plays together) or can't afford a cellphone at all.

I'm an adult, we verified my wifes account for that failure you called Clash.. To verify mine.. I picked up my neighbors cellphone and asked if I send a text to my wife and when they said yes, I verified my account.

You can't reasonably expect a cellphone to be a requirement for a video game.

I understand you don't actually want Smurfs in the game and are trying to prevent abuse.. but it is quite easy to change your cellphone number and there are plenty of apps that will let you use your cellphone but give some one a fake number for temporary use. Say for something like this I could use my wifes cellphone number, but make is it so if you text 1-555-000-0001 (insert random phone here) that it would send it to her phone.

Most of this shit just burdens and/or alienates your player base

No thanks make it optional , I don't need YOUR security , even if I loose all my stuff I'm ok grinding a new one out.
Thanks for being so concerned.

Guys..if someone truly wishes to hack you they will, that's just the con of being in modern society. There is next to nothing you can do to prevent someone from seriously wanting to hack you god forbid an organization doing so. The only protection we have is anonymity in that the average person isn't generally worth the effort of hacking. So I don't mean to scare every user but while this initiative will help to a small degree any dedicated hacker will get your info if they truly desire it, sorry just can't avoid it.

Em... Now, i dont know if i've already verified my email, but the one i used to create my main account with is locked because of Michrosofts !"#¤ randomass security bullshit they like to throw out just to make people hate them.

Anyhow, that means i cant verify it again, and im sure im not the only one in that situation... what can be done there? Just contact player support?

I understand the intent of this move and want it to succeed, so allow me to be blunt. This probably isn’t gonna work. Email based varification is still far too easily duped, especially considering how easily email addresses can be made. I will strongly advise that a much more difficult to spoof/replicate piece of contact information, such as a cell phone number which requires SMS text verification, be used instead.

TouchpadExpert7/15/2018, 9:20:04 PM3 votes

Not a big fan of this move at all. I have a few smurf accounts I play on and off. I can't even recall what I used as the email for them so you're essentially locking me out of those accounts unless I swap the email to something else. And personally I don't want you guys emailing me anyway.

Step 1: Me having issues verifying my account through my email, through multiple different browsers, proceed to forums. "If you have issues preventing you from verifying, you can contact player support here. Select the request type, "I need help with Account Management". For general info about email verification, check out our Knowledge Base article here"

Step 2: So i follow directions, attempt to start ticket request and get an error---"You must be logged in before you can submit this kind of ticket"

Step3 : I click login button, top right-hand corner, brought to another page and am given this. " To log in, you must have a League of Legends account with a verified email address.. We sent you an email with a link to verify your address."

Step 4: Loop to infinity

Anyone out there have a clue what is going on here? I cannot fix this by myself.

Will multifactor authentication be optional?

Honestly, I find it annoying, been playing League since Season 1, haven't had any issues with regards to an account breach and that alone tell you I take account security seriously enough to not need multifactor.

Mirmeos7/15/2018, 1:10:17 PM2 votes

Yep, this is what the game needs RIGHT NOW

Kicked Away77/16/2018, 9:16:40 AM2 votes

Quitting the day they make Multi-factor mandatory. I have to go out of my way for steam, if that's the same for league ima lose my shit, I have a cellphone but still if I lose it, or if it breaks, say someone can't afford one than what? Than i'm just not allowed to play league?! Minor inconvenience that's unnecessary to be mandatory. but if it's optional, than hey no complaints here. What's next 20+ character passwords. Just let me enjoy the game, not make it a hassle just to get into it
