New players are clearly NOT welcome

What a horrid experience this game is for new players, in fact if I was a betting man I wouldn't be surprised to see Leagues player base drop slowly over time and eventually biting the dust. The small experience I have seen leveling up a character (2 weeks) with lack of any sort of progression path is amazing in its self. All I have seen is a failed introduction for new players... I've watched first hand as a broken system causes new players to stop playing and watch more experience players become toxic as hell. This isn't really the experience players fault, why are they even being matched with new players who do not yet have mastery's, runes or the skills to compete?

With a solutions architect background I can see several flaws straight away that could be easily addressed to accommodate new players. For a game of such age I am utterly amazed at how poorly setup this is! Or am I completely wrong in thinking that this company want new players?

Whatever... As this community will say I'm sure, harden up of F off. I'll give it a few more days of abuse, see how stupid to abuse I really can be.

Dunno why this is getting downvoted. You're 100% correct. I was lucky enough to be coached and carried by RL friends who taught me builds, strategies, metagame, etc. while playing with me to offset the need to face enemies with keystones and full rune pages.

I pity the individual who decides to try out League on their own.

I'm currently new to the game. New to the community as well, but I can agree that the learning curve is hard. But then again, I think it should be because of the competitive level this game brings. I do wish they would allow low levels access to spells, runes, and masteries.

As a solutions architect, please share your insight on possible solutions.

I would love to hear how they can improve it because we all experience the problem but not all of us have a background as a solutions architect so we may not have the tools you have.

use your mute button, and remember that League is filled with kids and ragey people. I understand there is a steep curve, but Riot has already announced they're working on that part. They are going to make it easier for new accounts to accumulate runes n such earlier. However, you won't eliminate people who just can't stand losing or having "imperfect teammates". These people are playing with ego, and not with their intelligence, so ignore them. you won't fix em, can't talk to em, and if they troll you just gotta accept thats the match youre in and move onto the next after. You feasibly cannot win this team game 100% of the time, so the earlier you focus your mistakes and not that of others the faster you'll improve=

its the internet, explain a competitive game that people are not being shitty to one another?

it's because there are very few ACTUAL newbies at low level. it's mostly smurfs and people who have been permabanned and made new accounts

I was those that started league alone (after playing 2 introduction games with friends), but that was 8 years ago.

Sure, there wasn't alt accounts back then, but the learning curve is still very steep. There weren't any other MOBAs other than DoTA and the mechanics is very different between the games, so nothing to transfer knowledge from.

Cos I was so immersed in learning, trying out things ( champs / items) that I didn't pay too much attention to toxicity.

But if you are getting matched with people that have full rune pages, that means the system believes you are pretty good. Would you happen to be transferring knowledge or mechanics from other games?

Also to note: you get more IP / XP when playing bot games due to (pretty much) guaranteed win + shorter game times.

as a fairly new player. i agree with this post. when i first started i played a lot of AI...alot.....teemo was disabled for a while..when he was brought back i played him..first time pvp match with him......the team i was on was so toxic....so beyond toxic.....it left me in tears...and i almost uninstalled the game right there on the spot.....i how ever did not...i play all random all middle. the rotating game modes. and co-op. only...i refuse to take part in pvp SR because of how toxic the players generally are there..i seek to play for fun so i went to the modes were people have fun....buti agree with this..the community and current system is just so toxic to new players.....it just makes you not want to play it.

I agree with you 100%. I recently introduced two of my friends to playing league, and I've had to teach them everything about the game. The tutorial is unhelpful and there isn't a good feel for progression. Trying to explain runepages and masteries in specific is so difficult, especially why they're important.

a leveling up system will also be added soon.. with rewards for leveling up which you can upgrade in some cases with money so it would be a little more new player friendly and riot has more ways to take your money, of course. well... they are tesing it currently, not too sure if it really will get added, but there already has been a lot of work put into it

Having summoner spells, runes and masteries unavailable for lower level players was the most stupid decision Riot could have done, specially since the matchmaking puts people of different levels together. Laning against somebody with flash when you only have ghost is ridiculous, same with lanning with somebody with a keystone when you have none.

lets hope, this game is undeserving of continuing

I do think the system is lacking in direction for new players. It also restricts you in the wrong places. It shouldn't gate summoner spells early. You should be able to use the real summoner spells. I also think runes should be free and available to all players. I know that may be a bit overwhelming at first, but with a better tutorial system, and more access to higher level players willing to help, I think it could go a long way in welcoming new players.
