Both games my teammates were raging at me in chat I don't understand how im gonna get perma banned for this like is it really that bad a couple negative games that are bound to happen lol ? Im starting to think riot just bans accounts to cash grab

Also, instead of telling someone to shut up, wouldn't it be atleast 99% more effecient to mute them?

The only thing telling someone to shut up would do, is encourage more toxicity.

I don't think it's the "stfu", I think it's the fact that both logs were 100% negative, both in terms of attitude and comments towards allies. To be a neutral/ok chat log, almost every single line of text would need to be removed or altered. Someone coming off a 14 day ban needs to act better than that.

Bonus points for two logs wanting a 1v1, blaming the jungler for trying to help and blaming the jungler for not helping.

But to some, this could be reformed.

Picture this.

If you spout some pretty abusive/offensive stuff and get the 14 day ban. You agree that its time to change and you start to lower your profanity and avoid racial slurs.

You still complain a bit and are a little bit rude, but it is a huge first step. You get permanently banned and lose quite a lot of time and effort because of "stfu".

Hardly seems right.

Permabans should ALL be manually done, and should involve looking at the total account instead of just the current offense.

They should compare the actions of the 14 day ban with the actions of the new event.

If some steps have been made to reform, it should just be another 14 day ban and forced educational material. People on the whole would not read much, or not take it seriously, but most people don't realize how easy it is to go from 14 days to permaban.

Not at all.

A lot of people in game, and more broadly, in life don't realize just how serious the consequences of their actions are until they are at the end.

Speeding is a fine example.

The state we live in has a golden point rule and is incredibly effective at fixing dangerous drivers.

You get demerit points for being naughty, and when you run out of them you lose your license.

You are then offered a deal. Lose your license now for (X) months, or you get a single point for the next 12 months, and if you lose it, you lose your license for 2(X) months.

A huge problem with unwanted behavior is the habit. This system forces the driver to continuously and consciously make sure that they are in no risk. During the first month or two of being on this "golden point", their every thought is about following the road rules as best they can. After a while it becomes second nature.

As someone who has lost many accounts to toxicity, I can say that chat restrictions are a damned joke. They do nothing. Everyone just sees them as a minor inconvenience, and I'd argue that they actually increase toxicity. People are going to be more frustrated when they can't type, so when they are finally allowed to talk, they have an outburst, worse than what the original one would be.

Over the course of my accounts, especially the last few.. my behavior has dramatically improved. I used to be terrible, but now I am much more tame. Until you are told "this is your final warning" and you have a constant reminder of that, it is very hard to break the habit of being rude.

Why does nearly every legal system in the world encourage reform and rehabilitation, rather than just punishing bad behavior?

Anyone who takes Psych 101 could tell you that positive reinforcement is better and more effective than negative.

So then you agree that Riot needs to punish these people very aggressively past the 14-day ban. Because otherwise they wouldn't be at the end, and thus would still not realize how serious the consequences of their actions are. They would just keep procrastinating.

The problem with this is that you are essentially suggesting that a lower standard should be held for players who were more toxic. That Riot should give more leniency to the worst (chat-wise) players for being a bit less worse; someone who objectively was better for the game during the previous punishments (comparatively speaking anyway, they are still a problem) would get a stricter punishment for the same actions under your system.

While I do think there should be a step in between your first ban and permaban (because inevitably the first ban will be there wake up call for a lot of players), such a system doesn't currently ​exist.

It's the same as going from never punished to chat restricted. What makes it "hard" is procrastination. 14-day ban players were suppose to start changing their behavior at the first chat restriction.

Maybe not, but he was clearly provoked and encouraged to act in this manner by his team mates.

I'm not saying that makes it okay, I am saying it is very hard for someone to just sit there and take abuse without giving some back.

It's just basic rudeness shown. The occasional insult in the form of "you are bad not me".

It isn't nice behaviour, but does it really deserve the loss of account? Does it really deserve the same level of discipline as someone saying "kill all blacks"?

The two are clearly not equal. While both are wrong, they certainly don't deserve the same punishment.

I've seen a few times (OCE is\was a pretty toxic place) people who begin to be mildly rude/toxic accelerate into hate speech because they know they will lose their account so they have the "in for a penny, in for a pound" mindset.

People need to take a step back and realize just how serious taking someones account off them is. A binary system just does not work.

The difference between this case and a case of hate speech or racism is that this person has worked his way up through three punishments already. This person has had a negative impact on more players than someone who showed racism a few times. I would argue that someone who has worked their way through all of the punishment tiers is worse than someone who did something severe a few times and got a harsh punishment in some ways.

You are warned that your continued behavior will result in harsher punishments at your first punishment. Continuing past there is your own fault.

If you wait until your last day to write an essay, you can't blame your inability to finish it on the lack of time.

Likewise, if you wait until your 14-day ban to start reforming you don't get to blame it on not getting enough chances.

It'd be debatable if somebody receives an instant 14-day ban; but to get that kind of treatment, you'd have to exhibit behaviour that is so incredibly toxic, that you should have known not to behave like this before Riot even punished you, once again meaning you didn't put an effort in reforming soon enough.

The problem is that the first two tiers of punishment are laughable. Chat restrictions are not a punishment. No one gives a fuck about them.

They should change it to Chat Rest/14D/28D/Perma.

A lot of people do give a fuck about chat restrictions, given that most people reform before receiving a 14-day ban. Admittedly most people that actually end up permabanned probably didn't give enough of a fuck.

But that's exactly what I was saying: If people choose to simply not give a fuck about the problem until it cannot be fixed anymore in the time others want them to fix it in, they can't blame the lack of time. They were given the warnings. They knew this was coming if they didn't shape up. They chose to ignore it.

And while permabans are obviously also a tool to weed out the most absurdly and terribly toxic players, it has always been mainly a tool to weed out those who are unwilling to reform. And not giving a fuck about small punishments that serve as warnings for a larger punishment is exactly what I would call unwilling to reform.
