Thoughts on Autofill in ranked?

Hey guys,

I'm writing this after losing a ranked game that I really don't think I should have lost, if only the system worked properly. What happened: I queued up in solo queue, picked ADC or top. I was given ADC. I declared Caitlyn Caitlyn as the champ I wanted to play. Our support says: "i go adc". I say, "sorry, I was given adc so im going adc". They say "adc or i troll :D" When their turn comes to ban, they ban Caitlyn. Caitlyn I get pissed off and declare Miss Fortune now MissFortune , telling this guy that I still plan to go adc. The whole team asks them to please just go support, and not troll, but when it's time to pick my champion, this dude hasn't given up. So I begrudgingly lock in Morgana Morgana and say "fine, i'll go support." They say "yay :D" and lock in Jinx Jinx (of course they play Jinx Jinx . Of course.) Long story short, this user flamed, called us noobs and ultimately finished the game with a score of 0/10, blaming me, the support, after claiming to be a Diamond 5 smurf. (I'm bronze but even I could tell that this guy has never even reached silver). Yeah you could say it was my fault, and that a good support would carry their adc even if they fed - but this guy was diving when all my spells were on cooldown at level 2, he ran OUT of the redemption circle when I tried to heal him, he just played so so badly and I really tried my best. I reported him after the game but I really don't have much faith in the system if I'm completely honest... This kind of situation has happened to me in at least two of my ranked games now, and both games were lost. Other times, people have just trolled or played champs they have no idea how to play when they get autofilled, so the game is fucked anyway.

Basically, I don't think the autofill system in ranked queues is a good idea. In normals, maybe, because then it doesn't really matter if people troll and you just wanna get into a game quickly anyway (I often go blind if I cba waiting). Autofill doesn't bother my gameplay so much because I don't really mind going support, but a lot of people seem to hate the idea of it. But in ranked, I would MUCH prefer a longer queue time with everyone getting a guaranteed role so that everyone starts the game happy and positive towards their teammates. It's such a bad start to a game when your team is fighting and getting tilted while they're still in champ select.

I just wanna know if anybody else shares my opinion on this, because I really think it's something that Riot should think about. I know it's probably a more common thing in lower ELOs (I've been placed in Bronze 5 to start of this season - please feel free to call me a noob in the comments), so it wouldn't really matter in competitive play which is what they really care about. But at the lower ELOs, all it seems to do is invite trolls and toxic players to abuse the system because they don't get what they want. I personally rarely feed in the games I've played in bronze 5, I usually do very well and have a good KDA at the end, but with players like this it's impossible for me to climb and improve.

TLDR; Autofill shouldn't be implemented in ranked solo/duo queue (at least at low ELOs).

Let me know your thoughts. I've added a poll for an extra element of fun [slayer-jinx-wink] (after that game I hate that this is the only appropriate sticker).

P.S. If anyone's curious, I will happily name and shame the person from my last game :)

The problem with not having an autofill option, is that there are literally so few support mains, or even people who are support secondaries, that it can take a very long time for other players to get into a match. Back in teambuilder, I would hop into queue as a support and be in a lobby within 5 seconds, where the other 4 had been there for 30-45 minutes waiting on a support. Not to mention, you run the risk of getting people who say "screw it, I'll support just to get into a match" but who aren't very good at the role, who end up going against a support main.

What that Jinx did was really crappy, but I don't know that the autofill was the real issue. Seems like it was more not having an option to do anything about griefing prior to the match, which Riot is aware of and I believe that they are working on a way to address it logistically to find a way that it cannot be abused.

Autofill is the single worst idea in the history of champ select. It fails on a fundamental level to do anything worthwhile. I think everyone would rather wait instead of being forced into a lane they 1. may not know how to play 2. don't want to play 3. may not have the champions needed for that lane.

RIOT needs to figure out that QUALITY > QUANTITY. STOP FUCKING WITH QUANTITY AT THE EXPENSE OF QUALITY AND PEOPLE WON'T HATE YOUR QUEUE PROCESS.

Its a game, 1 game out of a handful will be bad. I'd rather 1 bad game every 30 than 30 bad games for 1 good game(which was season 1-3) the whole I called 1st i get what i called. or pick order= get order

Don't worry, faith in the system doesn't matter. Your report won't do much. he may not be part of the 5% of summoners so bad that Riot will do something about him. If anything you may be reported and restricted yourself, just depend on who wins the flame war in convincing others to report you.

Funny part is even if millions of people said to remove it; RIOT wouldn't. Cause they're fucking horrid like that.

I think the auto fill system is mostly bad. People choose autofill then they are not willing to play the role given therefore troll said people that chose to pick a role, by taking it, I think autofill needs to be removed if people are not going to 'fill' whichever role they are given then they shouldnt be bloody queuing as it. Simple as, im honestly surprised how bad this games community has gotten since i last actively played (when the game released up to seasons 2 ish)

Bump, Got auto-filled again and lost again. Look, if this were a good solution than the LCS would be better off forcing their players to play a different role at random too. Doublelift isn't in the professional scene for his ability to jungle so why force this on other players that just want to play what they're best at in the system that judges them on how they play. for this reason, having autofill inhibits me from playing what I'm best at and has no purpose in ranked. RIOT has let me down on this and should have at least given me the option to play with or without it (i get that some people don't care). Climbing has never been harder because of this and the fact that they don't even give me my secondary is infuriating and insulting. Thanks for nothing Riot.

Please don't bump old threads. Let them stay dead and make a new thread instead.

i queue as solo fill in flex queue.

Most the time I see more supports in flex queue as they want to support their buddies and lesser of them would rage due to auto fill.

Infact, I don't think I've seen someone rage as support cos of autofill, maybe its because I queue as fill.

Show some backbone next time. Don't give the moron the role they want after they demand it like a spoiled child, you report that kid and watch the ban come flying through. Automated system only takes upwards of 15 minutes to take effect, so you won't be left waiting long for retribution.
