Insight From a Person Who Had a Toxic History
First let me say this isnt my main. This is a smurf I made so I could learn new Ryze from a long time and have not used for quite a long time after getting a good handle on him.
Second, Im not making this post out of the goodness of my heart or going to say I'm some sort of saint now either. The only reason I'm making this post is because I just recently got cucked by an ADC who died to the enemy bot and then proceeded to run it down top. That alone wouldn't be reason enough for me to make this damn post. The reason I'm making this is because I was duoing (a concept that I in fact hate in "solo" que) because that's just how fucking shitty and coin flippy the game is right now if your aren't a ADC or duoing support main. I'm writing this because someone I considered worthy of gold like me got cucked by a player who died and decided to troll and cost us the game. Me and this person have just been dominating and only lost 2 games (including the one game in question). This isn't to brag either. The enemy team just amassed a greater lead collectivly in areas outside our immediate influence before we could get a realistic chance too, keep the situation salvagable until then, or also won (gained a lead) themselves.
Sure this person in question said some negative things in chat. But nothing that would raise a red flag to the system. They just silently ran it down top, afked, and fucked around a bit unti l we eventually surrendered as the enemy team ran it down lanes with baron and crushed anyone who got in their way. This person didn't didnt say any racial slurrs and for the most part of able to mask their intent to fool the system. Sure we reported this person. But let me say as a person who had a similar background (I never ran it down because I died once early on myself tbh) I certainly didn't face any conquences for quite a long long time. In fact the only reason I think I even faced any conquences was because of a ban/punishment wave that happened around the time I got in trouble.
What I'm trying to say is that is this person wasn't stupid enough to do anything to get caught immediatly. Toxicity didn't disappear when hypocrite former Riot Lyte came in started trying to combat toxicity. Sure after he started making changes that made it go down temporarily. But in that time all that was happening was toxicity adapting to the new measures until we arrived back to the same old situation. Sure no one is being blatantly toxic (at least not for long) or behaving in the way to get in trouble immediatly. But its still happening. People are just being much more passive aggressive about it. Personally I think it has gotten even worse over time because people can't be "toxic" like before. And I think its going to only get worse until Riot finally readdresses what it views as toxic because alot of what I see Riot consider toxic, overlaps with gaming and competitive culture. This isn't something that can't be fixed with some sort of system. "Toxicity" will just continue to adapt until riot leans back on what it thinks is toxic.
People shouldn't write out paragraphs on why you are bad (like I hear happens in the eastern regions) but the many retrictions on trash talk is what I think is the main cause for serious game losing actions now adays. This isn't an ideal solution (at least I imagine for riot) but I just see that as an aspect of human nature that won't disappear as long as humans exist.
