Banned for Cursing?

While you may or may not be ok with excessive use of the F word, is that really worth banning an account over? Especially with a built-in profanity filter? If someone doesn't agree with what you're saying that doesn't make it any less true, and the fact that you can be reported for something as trivial as using a curse word, makes this entire system flawed and inherently toxic.

There are plenty of much better games on the market that don't suffer from the same issues as League does, in terms of how notoriously toxic the community is, while League has the HARSHEST punishments of any other game. League is the only game with the ability to report someone for saying something you don't like or agree with, even if it's not remotely sexist, racist, or bigoted. It's basically just people being butthurt and reporting other people, that's not constructive, it just perpetuates the issue. There are plenty of games in which you can say basically anything you want, but for some reason, they aren't known for having toxic communities ... why is that?

No, the chat logs don't show any context for the match or what other players were saying, they only show my reactions. My reactions can be summed up as, "You're trash go fuck yourself" in several different iterations. There's no racism, sexism, or bigoted statements in what I say. Just basically a lot of "Fuck you/Fuck off/You're a dumpster fire" statements.

And that's toxic. You are responsible for your behavior, hence why Riot does not show all of the chat log, just your messages.

It doesn't matter what anyone else is saying or doing, you have the mute feature, ping mute feature, and just decency to ignore people to deal with it.

Wait... So... Saying 'you're trash' to anyone isn't toxic? Regardless of who they are or what they've done to you?

In what alternate dimension do you live in? This has been a truth, in Riot's eyes, at least, for a while now. Your words are your words... Not anyone else's. Insulting other people is toxic and brings down morale on the team. If you really think they are going to make you say that, then mute them, or don't use chat. Simple.

If you got banned for sayihng "Good fucking job!" or "Good shit!" I'd be with you. I do that pretty much every game to hype up my team mates when they make a good play. Haven't gotten banned for using curse words yet after...5 years?

You got banned for being toxic, not for cursing. You could say "Your trash" instead of "Your fucking trash" and Riot would still ban you all the same.

You're not punished for profanity, unless it's hate speech. You're punished for being toxic to other people. If you copy-paste your chatlog, we can help you look it over to show you what things to avoid in the future.

If someone says something toxic to me, and then I respond with something like, "Fuck you" that's not me being toxic, that's me responding to an asshole.

Anyway it doesn't matter my account which I've spent probably $1200 on is now Perma-Banned I've had it since Beta but I have other lvl 30 accounts so it's w/e

if I continue playing this game one thing is for certain, I'll never spend another fucking dime on it. Riot is perma-banned from my wallet. I don't care what other games they come out with and I'll never recommend this or any of their future games to a single person. I will forever say only negative things about RIOT as a company and League of Legends as a game.

Or could the lack of toxicity in other games be, in part, due to it being the accepted norm for that platform? We haven't and most likely will not accept it as a norm here. I, for one, commend riot for taking on an unwinnable battle, in the hopes it has some effect on the more mature players.

Mystic Lyn, it is a norm and always has been in League and in every other game and form of human interaction. I think the difference is that League places a very high priority on it but in a negative way. In other games it's tolerated as much as anywhere else, which is just part of life dealing with people with other personalities and from different cultures.

To be honest, what my friends and I consider normal conversation would be considered "toxic" by a part of the league community. So here, I am being punished for just being myself, in this "inclusive" community. My point is, isn't this why there's a built-in profanity filter? What is the point if you're just going to ban individuals for "being toxic". I put being toxic in quotations because it's 100% subjective.

I very rarely curse and tend not to associate with people that do in large amounts. I dislike it and therefore avoid it. There are plenty of games that include profanity filters and still issue chat restrictions anyway. Riot has taken a stance against it and outlined punishment tiers and how they work, you broke the rules and were punished accordingly.

I often opt out of VOIPs because i dislike listening to people screaming various profanities and slurs. But cursing, by itself, is not actually disallowed, creating a negative environment is. I know this as I say "Fuck that was stupid of me". Perhaps I don't do it often enough or get reported because it isn't "toxic".

Many businesses do not allow cursing by service reps, and is often the only grounds to terminate contact from a customer, unless passing the issue along. Being rude and offensive in everyday talk is something i consider a current downward trend, but alas that is personal. I will, however, commend you for responding in a civil manner though, which is not the norm for people who have been banned.

Mystic Lyn, that's perfectly fine that you do not curse or associate with individuals who do curse. I tend to not drink alcohol very much, smoke weed, cigarettes, or vape. I dislike those things, therefore, I tend to not associate with individuals who do. Does that somehow elevate me into a plane of existence where I can now look down upon them in judgment simply because I do not do the same things that they choose to do? (I'm not saying that's what you are personally doing, I'm saying that is how the tribunal is currently set up)

I also do not enjoy VOIPS of people screaming or yelling CHINA NUMBA WAN repeatedly (PUBG) but that is not what I do, I rarely even get upset to the point of wanting to yell. I'm actually very civil UNTIL players start attacking me in chat. Which happens often because I main jungle.

Sure, in a perfect world I would tell myself to be the bigger person and just let it go. Easy to say. Perhaps for some even easy to do, but if we all did precisely the things we know we should do at precisely the times we know we should do them, despite our emotional states, then we'd be living in a Utopia.

You are punished for bringing your friend group's immature conversation style, which is not "normal" regardless of what you may think, into a game that caters to everyone 13 and up, including adults, children, teenagers, and young adults.

There is a built in profanity filter so that people who do not wish to even know what profanity is said do not have to see it. That does not give you an excuse to say things. Further, the mute feature is used not as an escape path, but as a last resort. Players ideally should not need the mute feature.

You are being punished because you were immature, negative, and borderline abusive with your chat. Those are not subjective, those are objective analyses of your communications. Until you can accept that, don't make a new account please.

Chermorg the fact that you're associating the use of curse words and specific language to a level of maturity speaks volumes into how naive and immature you are. The rest of what you said is unreasonable and not grounded in reality.

See, here's the thing, it's common knowledge that cursing is generally used by people with less intelligence to formulate their thoughts with the same emphasis sans curse words. They're the "easy way out", if you want to call it that. That's a generally accepted fact of human language processing - use of short, super extreme words (such as curse words) generally signals an inability to find another word(s) to convey your thought.

I don't want to say you're unintelligent, just that your communication is that of someone who fits the model of a teenager in a high school locker room. You seem to think that your opinion is the only one that matters, when in reality it's the opinion of the other players in the game that matters. That opinion is generally that cursing is acceptable, but at a grocery store level. You don't hear employees/patrons of a grocery store going around "damn it where's the fucking shit I need" "fuck this damn pasta is opened i wanted to fucking buy this shit". You hear them using their brains to formulate other thoughts that don't involve disturbing other patrons of the store.

If this you talk this way in public and if you are this condescending, good luck finding a job (or keeping one long term). If you don't, and are in fact more mature in your workplace/public, you do not get to drop that when you come to League.

If you're not going to post your chat logs, then ban deserved and you know it, as your logs will show whatever else you said.

Riot doesn't care who started what. You respond with toxicity, you get punished if you're reported.

Yes, that is how the tribunal is set up, and I think it's an inherently flawed system. You may not believe so, until the long arm of the tribunal comes for you.

Context doesn't matter, if you called your team mates trash. You deserved what you got.

There is no reason in any game you ever need to hit the enter key. Anything you need to say, you can say with pings or "warded"

Would Riot ban someone for excessive cursing without toxicity? I use fxcking all the fxkcing time, it's just a habit that I will never get rid of (and people tend to think I'm often mad when I'm not at all because of it when I just use it like how a French would use "putain"), I wouldn't want to get banned for something like that.

You basically got banned on a game where they have the ability to mute you, they have a profanity filter, and it is a multiplayer competitive game where you are not allowed to trash talk, it certainly is special all of the "good sportsmanship" they sprinkle lol it is a COMPETITIVE GAME WHERE YOU KILL PEOPLE im here to kill you and talk shit it makes the game 100 times more fun. as i said though the game is going to shit because of things like this who wants to play a game with no freedom of speech lol it is like a game made from the nazis specially when the other people have every tool at their disposal to ignore you it is a huge joke lol.
