Riots "toxic player" statistics don't make sense.

Hi, this is my first post on the forums, and I'm hoping to share my experience and opinion to see who agrees and who doesn't.

So, about 3 days ago or such I got my first ever chat restriction. It was 10 games and I received it off of reports of toxicity (obviously). Here you can see the notification I recieved upon logging on to League that night. http://imgur.com/7JgoSAl The game that set off the investigation was one of earlier that day, in which I became toxic towards the end of the match. Multiple people reported me and I guess it put up a red flag. On the notification you can see that it says I am within 5% of summoners toxic enough to receive a restriction. Before I go on I would like to thank Riot for giving me this "warning" of sorts, rather than instantly suspending my account.

Now, onto my issue with this statement. "5%." I don't know if that statistic is meant to make you feel bad (if it is, it works. When I initially read that it made me feel scummy), or if Riot actually believes it's true and is trying to inform you. Either way, it's crap. I do not exaggerate when I say that EVERY single game I play is FULL of toxicity, besides maybe the one or two few games a month. I agree that I deserved the restriction, but it is a complete and utter lie when you say I'm among "5%" who are toxic enough to deserve a restriction. More accurately, the message should read You are among the 90% of players who are considered extremely toxic in League of Legends. But you are among the 5% that we actually get around to banning/restricting.

I want to tell you a few negative League experiences I've had (the post will only get longer, so you can skim down for my conclusion). I don't have either screen-shots or videos, but I do plan on taking record of every toxic team mate or enemy I have, and maybe I'll post a small album weekly or something, I don't know.

I'll start with an old experience from maybe a month ago. I was playing a Normal Summoners Rift game, trying out Syndra in the JG. I did horribly (turns out Im not amazing with most non-meta jg's ;p) that game, and we got completely stomped. Throughout the early minutes of the game my team and the other team alike were harassing me in my choice of champion. This didn't bother me much because it was just some classic League toxicity, nothing I'm not used too. Around mid game, I started ganking, and with that, started dying. Every time I died people in both teams repeated "Why Syndra jg?" in an attempt to taunt me I guess. Again, I didn't mind. It was a bit later in the game where I went to help my mid-laner in a 1v1 when I missed both my stun and W. We both died and my mid proceeded to go at me. I defended myself (admittedly, being toxic as well), until he told me this: "I sincerely hope your grandmother dies of cancer in a slow, horrible, chemo filled death." Now, it isn't the fact that someone wished this on my grandmother. It isn't because I valued his opinion or because I thought it was horrible he said that (which, it was). It hurt, because my grandmother at the time was battling lung cancer (She did beat it, shes 80, but strong <3). It brought back the sad thought that she would probably die soon. The rest of that game i walked around farming and they won about 10 minutes later. I proceeded to report him, and asked my fellow team mates to do so as well. None responded, so I'll assume only I reported him. Nothing happened. I wasn't informed that a player I reported had been given a consequence. He made me stop playing League for a week, because all I could think about was my Grandma. Nothing happened. But I tell a guy he's bad at split-pushing and I get restricted? (Obviously that isnt all I said. As I stated, I fully deserved the ban.)

Side Note: I am working on reform and since the restriction have not been toxic. I plan to stay this way :). It makes the game more fun tbh.

One more story, then I'll leave you be. It was an aram, in lobby everyone was chatting, which is rare in aram, and we were joking and such. At the very end, Kha'Zix said: "alright blitz, im feeding." My duo and I were confused until the game started, in which the bug stated that blitz wouldn't trade with him. He AFK'd for about 20 minutes (we held our ground), and then bought a bunch of item 3070 and some mobi boots. He evolved his R and E and played a game to see how far behind the enemies he could get (spoiler: not very far). He ended up feeding ALL of them, and constantly typing negative things in all chat. He lost us the game and insulted us all. Me and my duo reported him (and im honestly hoping more people did too), but, you guessed it, NOTHING HAPPENED.

I feel stupid for ranting about a statistic, but it is just ridiculous that Riot says "5%." Because it isn't 5%. 90% of League is toxic, I just happened to be in the 5% you actually did something about.

Please don't be mad at me Rito, I love League of Legends and if any Rioters read this I'd love to hear any opinion you have on my rant. Maybe you agree, maybe you don't, maybe you can explain the statistic. <3 ya. [slayer-jinx-wink] P.S. If you want the chat logs from my restriction to see how toxic I was exactly or whatever, just ask. I have them saved.

5% = 1 person in 2 games, as there are 10 people in each game.

or if you just want to count your team mates and what you see, 1 in 4 games.

Which sounds about right for the occasional toxics / ragers you see, especially if their rage isn't diffused.

It'll be less if you are good at de-escalating ragers.

90% toxicity will be when 9/10 players are all raging at each other, when in fact normally only 1 person is toxic within the chat, and another person is reacting to it. But you do see it close to every game, as that is what 1 player in 2 games means.

On the behavioral note, surely you know that you only get a notification if your report was the final straw that got someone punished. If it was building towards their case, you won't get a notification.

That being said, the behavioral visibility for the current punishment system can use some improvements. Tribunal 2.0 is on the way, probably after the new client is released. Hopefully it'll give us some better visibility when we provide reports.

Consider the fact that the majority of the accounts aren't even level 30 or just level 1-5 accounts that just sit there doing nothing. If its 5% it is obvious that those who play more and also with more intensity (such as ranked playerbase especially at higher levels) is more hostile towards each other.

So the 5% number is deceivingly high considering this is a f2p game with many accounts just doing nothing. Which means quite a high percentage is affected by chat banns.

I just stream my games, then turn the toxic ones into youtube videos to be made fun of.

I was completely on your side until you said you went Syndra jung.

I'm not trying to be toxic to you, but as a player that does actually get quite angry about things like that, why do that? Clearly you're implying that it's not to troll. You're trying to do something? Or w/e? Why not intermediate bots? Majority of players play by the meta because we like looking at statistics.

I hear "It's viable" or "It works" whenever I just question their choice. I'm not even telling them to change yet, just asking why. Your choice affects us. And for some, it incites a burning rage that only the anonymity of the internet protects you from.

Statistically, it's a bad choice. It just us. Graves is now a regular jungler, because after so much statistic tweaking from Riot, the grizzled marksman champion can now utilize the jungle on his own. Players who read stats can recognize that, and aptly experiment with "new meta". But Syndra won't, WILL NOT, be a good jungler this season. She will never stack up to the average statistics of a mage jungler, like Fiddlesticks. Mainly, she has no sustain. Where is your health return?

But I digress, I'd just like to pick your brain. What made you decide that it was not only an option, a but necessary option, to go Syndra jungle in pvp?
