Punishment System MIA

BansheeReina··2 votes·560 views

With the start of the new season comes the beginning of a wave of toxic, titled players. I can't even begin to tell you how many incredibly negative players I've had. But no matter how many times I report people I STILL have yet to see any punishments go out. And I'm talkin' racists, sexists, and straight out AFK players. Like one person dies and they AFK for the rest of the game. Whats up with that?

You only get notified if you're the very LAST Person to report the toxic player before he's punished.

you dont have to just see the pop up to no when someone been punished

Yes, because people can still play and still be punished, like having Chat Restriction.

That's not the point but OKAY.

He just told you why you aren't seeing punishment notifications.

Unless you mean you are looking for something like this.

Why aren't people using the N word being insta 14 day banned. I could have sworn that was how it worked.

Volibears Keeper1 votes

Not necessarily.

Hate speech is bannable.

If someones using the N word with a hard R, they will be punished. However, if no one reports them, I dont think the system will pick up on it. (Reports flag the games, then the punishment system reviews "Flagged" games)

Alot of the time I see the N word with an A its friendly talk. As a black man myself, most people in my social circle use it as a replacement for friend/homie.

While I still wont throw it around in game, as some people have very fragile emotions. It's not inherently a bad word when used correctly.

This is all speculation though, who knows what Riot's real stance is on this.

Regardless of EVERYTHING mentioned in this post, theres no real reason aside from self gratification, to notify someone when a player is punished. If you don't think the punishment system works, go be excessively toxic for a few games, and see how quick you get punished.

(You wont, because you know the system works well enough to catch you)

I've seen a lot of bad things being said lately. Especially words to offend black people and chinese people. Haven't seen any punnishment notices though.

report them and move on.

Kei1431 votes

Actually, that is old information.

Nowadays, providing if the reported game is in the reform card, all the players that sent in a report for that game will see a notification.

I've talked to Riot Tantram about this somewhat recently (2-3 months ago)

you got a source?

Volibears Keeper1 votes

Still says theres a time limit on there, and punishments aren't immediate.

But that is good to know that its not only the last player.

I imagine its probably the last few games or something. I think what OP is expecting is a notification as soon as the players reported.

OP's thought process is indeed a common thought process, alot of people also think that they sent in a valid report and it requires immediate punishment.

What people don't realise is that games accumulate, regardless of how long ago it was. Yes, the toxicity meter decays over games played, but every valid report still counts towards someone getting punished, unless they have totally reformed, which in that case, they won't get punished.

Bottomline, more clarity on the system is required.

One of the major problems about clarity in punishment systems is that the more transparent things are, the easier they are to manipulate and pass.

If Tantram posted the code to his punishment system, we could find every word thats an immediate ban, and blacklist them ourselves. We could see that "When the player has recieved a 14 day ban, it takes 'x' days/games to go down a punishment tier.

I agree we need to have more clarity in terms of what's ok, and whats not. But we cant hit the point where players are able to pass the system and still be toxic.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure its human nature to be as toxic as possible until punishments are warranted. If a person knew that they could flame a teammate again after 90 days of receiving 3 reports or less, Im sure they'd do it because they knew the next punishment was only a chat restriction and not a 14 day ban.

Only the zero tolerance system (hate speech, homophobia, encouraging others to harm themselves) is a key word system.

There is no keyword search for the standard system, it is able to read the context of the chat and knows whether the text sent in for review is used as a harassment or insult.

When I refer to the clarity of the system, I'm typically gearing towards the idea of a monthly report card or like a progress bar for the honor system. Something that can show people that they are moving forwards/backwards in regards to behavior.

I perosnally think that it's OK for people that attempt to game the system. If they back off for 250 games in fear of getting punished, then that's 250 games of less toxicity from that individual.

I like the idea of a monthly report card. That would be excellent for helping with toxicity I think.
