How do players feel about reporting toxic players?

The root of this topic lies in whether or not the system actually works in the first place. Personally, I have been messaged before saying that player(s) I have reported or judged on the tribunal have had corrective actions taken against their behaviors. However, that was quite some time ago, and I can honestly say that the games I've participated in lately have more than frequently had some despicable or otherwise simply unpleasant players in them. And sure, it's easy enough to mute them so they don't insult or berate you, but in one recent game I was actually targeted for bullying so hard that two players actually intentionally fed and threw any chances they had of winning their game just to hunt me down specifically in the jungle. I use the word bullying because I had never experienced such an extreme case of specifically targeted harassment before and it could only be called real bullying.

I'm an easygoing enough person as long as other people also treat me with the same respect and courtesy, or at the very least don't act or speak directly against me in an insulting or demeaning fashion. I mean, I didn't get to Honor 4 by being belligerent or condescending. Since I've had so many games alongside toxic players, to be frank, I find myself reporting players at the end of the game probably no less than 85% of the time. Usually harassment and verbal abuse cases, as well as negative attitudes in general, but I don't feel like any of these reports have actually been taken seriously as of late. Because of this, I am fearful that the most intense case of abuse I personally have ever faced on League of Legends might actually go ignored. But I am MORE fearful at what this means in general, as it would imply that there must surely be several similar cases or even worse cases that simply get pushed under the rug.

My own personal experience was that I was called out in my game by my opponents as they encountered me in my jungle and chased me down, and they told me "this is for picking [whomever]" referring to the queue immediately before the game where I had actually been partnered with them, selected my champion for OneForAll, and actually got my pick and they harassed me in the lobby chat then too... but then someone dodged the queue and I was immediately pit against these players in the following queue. They recognized my name and chose to hunt me down for the entire game only roaming around our jungle chasing me down (luckily my teammates supported me throughout most of these encounters AND managed to quickly push in against the enemies, since the opponents couldn't really defend against a relentless 4v3 push). But even so, a victory, even a quick and easy one, and even though I only actually died once to their ambushes, the game was completely unenjoyable for me specifically because of these players that bullied me.

Imagine how many other games these two people must have ruined, as, clearly, there's some greater underlying problem here than just "that champ you picked was not the one I wanted REEEEEE". There are truly sick and abusive people out there who revel in this sort of harassment, and there's no way I personally have met the only two, nor have I possibly met the worst of the worst. So I wonder how many other players feel like they've ben mistreated, properly fill out their reports at the end of their games, but end up feeling as though their actions were in vain? Especially when their games seem to routinely include worse and worse people than what they've already been reporting. I just want some hope that the system actually does work and that someone out there is able to review this game, for example, and any others like it, and that these kinds of players don't get to legitimately bully other people anymore. I've somewhat lost faith in the system because I feel as though my reports don't have any actual impact.

So now I'm wondering what other people's experiences are like with the system. Maybe there's some secret statistics that make it so that if you report very frequently, as I do, your reports are given less or no weight in the system? Maybe the reports sent by others have also felt neglected, or possibly people who regularly DO feel impacted by the report/ban system can share their experiences and offer advice on how to better interact with the reporting system. This is serious, I've honestly barely ever even bothered to look at these forums, but enough is enough with these toxic people. Not toxic players, toxic people, because even though this is just a game and it's meant to be fun and enjoyable, the truth is that people's insulting, condescending, and abusive personalities are ruining the experiences and people are mistreating other people, it has very little to do with the actual game being played.

(Edit: spaced out a bit, literally my first ever post on this forum and I'm not too familiar with the proper etiquette, nor was I expecting people to be so overwhelmed by simply putting words together... but so be it.)

People dont want to read an eye-stabbing wall of text with no mental breathing room. No one wants to come away with a forum post with eye-strain induced Blindness

Uneffective and crap. Being told to commit suicide and having your family and yourself harassed every single match just to get instant feedback once in a week(or even two). Oh only if it happened in Rioter's games, then they would consider reviewing the reports themselves rather than lettinf automated bull do their bidding. No, you know what's worse? When s person adds you after gsme and say they'll commit suicide, never see them online again and when you ask help from support to explain the situation and all you get is "I don't care" kind of automated message. Yes, this is how much I truly despise the report system and the support themselves. Prove me wrong, I dare you.

I'm sorry but trying to read that wall of text is a little much for me while i have a headache. so I am simply going to answer the question in your subject line.

"How do players feel about reporting toxic players?"

I don't feel anything at all, I report people who violate the rules, no matter if it actually effects me or not, and move on to the next game and don't think about it again. I just don't care about thinking about it any further then what is required to click the report buttons, cause I know that after awhile if the player keeps the behavior up, He will get punished sooner or later. I don't need to witness the punishment.

Punishments usually work as a deterrent to behavior. There is some inefficiency in Riots system though.

Timing has to get better. I break a rule yesterday and get punished for it today. I've forgotten what you got mad at me for. Punishments have to be quicker. The worst part, if you think chat is delayed, wait until you look at game play offenses. Game play offenders literally go hundreds of games without being punished.

Punishment is never a "cure". If the offender wants to do something, punishment does not deter them. If the offender is acting out of instinct, punishment does not deter them.

Personally, I'd prefer a system with less severe but more quickly applied punishments.

I think it works, but at the same time I think it doesn't. Recently I got chat restricted for telling a member of my 2/20 (literally) team to hang himself. I got chat restricted for 10 games. But, I have encountered so many genuinely toxic people, who flame the entire game with no apparent reason. And, to my knowledge, none of them got banned (I mean maybe 10% did). I encountered people who were racist af, harassed their team the whole game and nothing happened to them. Or maybe they all get banned, but because of Riot's retarded policy I can't check if they are banned. There is that "instant feedback" notification but I doubt that works well.

No, I think the report system is effective.

I got banned for way less than harassment. There are posts on this board that are way less than harassment, too.

People report players despite the fact they don't know them and wouldn't appreciate Rito enacting the "we can ban you for no reason and aren't legally obliged to tell you our reason" part of the Agreement on themselves, because they're not treating the other players like humans. The nature of anonymous interactions with strangers makes it that way, but the fact so many people are so happy to have their own feelings put above, not even just morality, but any kind of critical thinking on the issue is an individual thing.

And while asking people to act in fairness is simple to do, no one wants to bother because it feels better to get your way when the other party couldn't possibly have done something to you worth effectively having hundreds of dollars stolen from them, in many cases.

I only do it if I'm mad about something else and want to inflict the inconvenience of a ban upon someone other than myself

Suckdeezbeez8/12/2018, 12:45:12 AM1 votes

Heres why it doesnt work. My account gets banned, I just make a new one and play again. I'm still playing league, I'm still playing against people in my elo and the only thing I've changed is I'll only buy accounts and not skins or content from riot.

agree having a system.. disagree with the punishment vs crime.

they over reach their hand on some things.

GrenadesAndHamm8/15/2018, 8:22:46 PM1 votes

I report people often. People threaten to report me often. I'm starting to mute all players at the beginning of the game regardless of how pleasant or unpleasant they seem to be up until the start of the game.

This game breeds toxicity, unfortunately.

Most of the time, people threaten to report me because I've refused to do what they want, for example, gank their lane as a jungler excessively. A lot of it is accusing of feeding despite me having a similar kdr and typically much more cs.

People want to act toxic, like a Veigar "support" constantly stealing cs and going for kills, and excuse everyone of toxicity.
