How does the Report system work now?

How exactly does the report system work now? I sometimes get notifications telling me that someone has been punished (I've had a few recently since season finished), but I was just in a game where I didn't play well, i apologized even though we all lost our lanes, and our top laner out of nowhere when they near our nexus says:

"Report Talon he told me to get Cancer" & "Talon I gave your Mother CPR so i could burn the s**t alive".

I genuinely felt / feel sick that people can be so horrible over this game and i know the "its the internet" comments will be said but what is wrong with people who will say something like that to a stranger over this game? Can you imagine what their family / partners would say if they found this information out?

So what exactly happens once i've submitted my report? Does it still go to players to review oir does someone at Riot look at it? I hope for the community's sake that if keywords are spotted a human gets to manually punish people like this.

Sorry for going on, i'm genuinely shocked this is still a thing. I'm no saint but i have changed my negative ways because games are meant to be fun!

Reports simply flag that person's match to be checked for whatever they were reported for. When a player has received too many reports in too few games, those reports will be checked. If their behavior is found to be consistently or extremely negative they will be punished according to the frequency and severity and what punishments they've received before.

When your report triggers this review and they are punished you may receive that notification that a player was punished. If you don't get the notification, that doesn't mean your report was inaccurate or they'll get away with it; as long as you report appropriately they will count towards their case if they are reviewed and punished in the future.

If someone falsely reports, the report does not hurt you, and they will lose report weight. The system is designed entirely around throwing out false reports, so as long as you aren't being a negative player you don't have to worry about them threatening you with reports; that in itself is reportable too.

Don't ever use the word %%%got in game cause that gets you chat restricted right away once it's reported. Who knew?

The same thing that's wrong with people that they'll say something like that to a stranger over anything. People say that just to offend you, man. You gotta realize that... ever seen YouTube comment section? People don't say it because you wronged them or because you deserve it. They just wanna feel that sweet feeling in their tummy that they get when they offend someone. It's like the same as bullying in k-12 school. I don't get it, but it makes some people feel good.
