Reporting System Is Pointless

The reporting system in League of Legends is 100% garbage. The reason I say this is because the toxicity and trolling in the community has increased not decreased. In the past 3 years of playing league (ranked or normals), I have not had more trolls, afks, or toxic people than I do now. It has gotten worse not only in terms of frequency but also in terms of intensity. Let me give you an example:

I get into a ranked match. At champ select (after the 4th time someone dodged), people select their champs before they ban. Then the ban: which at this point someone decided to intentionally ban a champ that someone has selected. The player says, "Come on man, why did you ban my champ?" The response, "F-you. Your mother is w""re. I f-d your mother." I then think to myself, "this is going to be a loss."

The champ select continues, and then I see our illustrious support (the player who banned intentionally and insulted the other player) select Nunu with smite. So I think, "Ok, this isn't that bad."

The game begins and Nunu decided to run down to red-buff and smite it, stealing it from our JG. He then proceed to run down mid and feed kills. Our JG then tells everyone not to report him because it's his little brother, but then later he tells us it's just his duo buddy and then joins him on the troll and the horrific insults about everyone's mother...etc.

At this point the rest of us give up and try to surrender at the 15 minute mark, without success. Then at 20 minutes mark, without success since the duo won't surrender.

I then started counting the matches where this happens, and out of 20 games, I've had 12 with these types of players. This means that 60% of the time you have this experience in a League of Legends game.

**So now I want to know: What's the point of the reporting system if it actually doesn't cure the problem of trolling and toxicity? **

After so many years, the community has actually gotten worse. So to me this just tells me that the reporting system doesn't do anything. Another conclusion I got was that the toxicity comes from other players sure, but first it comes from the actual games itself. I don't think people really know how to play it and Riot doesn't do a good job at teaching people how to play the game and also helping them understand the scope of the game.

Either way, I think this is my closing statement before my friends and I depart from this game. Riot doesn't seem to care for good players but instead allows toxic players, as my experience has shown. If Riot did care, they would come up with a better system to rid the community of toxicity.

Thanks!

Its because their report system is completely automated and for the most part only cares about chat. Also trolls have taken over the system by reporting people who react to them.

Riot is very good about punishing people for saying offensive things in chat.

They are goddamn awful at punishing trolling, intentional feeding, ragequitting, etc.

Part of the reason is that poor behavior is more difficult to spot than a chatlog. But yeah, I think part of that is an unwillingness to invest into better systems to spot that sort of behavior.

So yeah...for all intents and purposes, poor behavior generally won't get punished so long as it's not egregious (so troll with a score of 3/12 as opposed to 0/30, and don't say anything in chat) and you're golden. Sad state of affairs. :(

Maybe league has just gotten more popular and more people have been playing it. But I think there's some bias when it comes to how much toxicity you experience. As humans, I think we just tend to recall our negative experiences more quickly than our positive ones, and the negative experiences also stand out more.

I see the same. Use a larger sample size than 20 games if you're gonna use statistics to make a point. In my past 20 games, I have no idea how many were toxic and I don't remember a single one... so it's not even noticeable. And I rarely ever get trolls who do shit like you described... like literally maybe twice in my 3 years of playing. I don't know.. different experiences. You have some terrible luck, or I have great luck, when it comes to matchmaking.
