Take Two After Every Game: How to Level Your Ph Balance

So I haven't posted long, drawn out threads here so let me first introduce myself...

Hi, I'm 1v1 me at Turret but you can call me Turret for short. Figured I'd post a short little cheat guide to helping decrease the level of toxicity for those who are consistently posting on these boards. First off, I do want to get one thing off my chest... the people posting here are still people regardless of how toxic they are in game. Some of the ways we talk to or treat them is inexcusable, as we should be taking the opportunity to offer advice instead of shaming them for their problems. Remember, tone is everything... and tone is difficult to convey through text, so be wise as to how you word things.

With that out of the way, here are a few things you can do to help improve or curb your toxicity:

  1. Don't play after a bad day - This should go without saying, but playing an extremely competitive game, no matter if it is norms, ranked, or ARAM could end up making your day worse. You don't control all the different variables that lead to your victory or defeat, and when you are in a bad mood you are more than likely already at your wits end. Set aside your computer, go for a walk, or find something constructive and easy going to do to let your frustrations out... because as easy as it is to take it out on your team, it's wrong and hurtful to do.

  2. Don't give in - No matter how toxic your team mates are, don't give in and stoop to their level. I understand this point is beaten like a dead horse in a glue factory, but it is crucial to remember there is NO excuse to behaving in that manner. You are the one responsible for your actions, not your friends, not your team mates, and definitely not the Bard jungle main spamming his mastery all over your corpse. Be polite, play the game, and don't take it personal. Report them without flaunting it and threatening in game that you will report and move on. Remember, it's your account that will get punished if you give in, not theirs.

  3. Music is key - Listening to music always helps me when I play League. Usually I'm listening to chill hop or punk music, but what ever you are into can fit the bill. Music has an odd way of letting us escape while upset, and as long as you aren't in a call with your duo partner... don't be afraid to belt out a few lines and sing along.

  4. Silent Like Sona - If you start feeling yourself get to that point of no return and know for certain the next time you type it's going to be a slew of expletives calling your mid Annie every rotten word under the sun, stop typing. Revert to using your pings and just leave it be. If you lose? Oh well, but you will at least have the chance to play again another day and regain the LP vs not being able to log in again.

  5. League Buddies - Play with people who have a positive outlook. People who when you're around them make you feel relaxed. People who know how to make you laugh no matter how much top lane Karma feeds. I mean, how can you be toxic if you're barely able to breathe from laughter?

  6. Take a Hike - Go outside!!!!! Easiest thing to do is work out or do something physical after a hard loss. Not only does it feel nice to breath in some fresh air, but the endorphin release from exercise is AMAZING!!!

I hope this helps at least some of you, if not? It was at least a solid effort in an attempt to give some advice. If you are ever feeling down or need someone to talk to? Just add me on league, I'm always an open ear.

Hope to see you on the Rift

I was able to keep a group of people generally positive in a Dota 2 game, not sure if I can comprehend the magnitude of this feat.

Music is a miracle worker. I used to be pretty toxic, but music helped me tone that down. A lot.

If I have a bad day, I won't play multi-player games. Period! It does ofc. depend on how bad of a bad day I actually have, but if it isn't too bad - and I just want my first win IP bonus - I just jump in an AI game. Beginner or Intermediate depending on that particular day's badness, and then starting the game by muting everyone, and let that single game be the end of the LoL day.

Some relaxing music piping out at a gentle volume is always a good thing. Music is key, indeed - even if perhaps fast-paced tracks, whether it be metal or techno, gets your blood pumping under normal, "competitive" circumstances, it have the opposite effect when feeling like going ham on whatever the nearest physical object might be.

I have been playing what for me usually is perceived to be "Imma gonna kick some ass now!"-music, but that same music on overly loud volume after having failed miserably 3 times too many have on a few occasions almost made me throw something at the speakers, like [SHUT UPPP!!!] to get that constant BAM-BAM-BAM bass-beat go away, instead of just Alt+Tab and changing the melody to something more soothing.

Some examples of, for me, calming music: Jesper Kyd - Into Eternity (Darksiders 2 OST) Jesper Kyd - Crystal Spire (Darksiders 2 OST) Enya - Only Time (ofc, it just had to be Enya) Two Steps From Hell - Wind Queen (well, what can I say? It's Two Steps From Hell - if they don't have something you like, it's not the composer's fault!) Chrono Trigger (SNES) soundtrack (I'm actually not kidding here - try it; it's on Youtube)

Other than that, just to get past that initial "I want to destroy something"-rage, try some FPS game - Duke Nukem, Doom, whatever - apply the godmode and unlimited ammo cheats, get the minigun, and LET'EM HAVE IT(!).

Fresh air is a simple, yet a desperate outlet - if such a break is really needed, you shouldn't be playing at all, or be around other people in any way. But that same outlet is always there if you need it. Remember that.

This is good for people who don't know how to level their bullshit resistance stat. Get the eff over it if someone flames you, chances are you will never see them again. Especially in bronzer, it is very easy to have fun in bronze

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for this one, Turret. I try to manage tilt on a daily basis, and I frequently have to use these techniques to try to keep teammates in check. It doesn't always work for them, but at least I'm not adding to the toxicity. A lot of the cool people I have on my friends list are actually from opposing teams. ^_^
