I know I'm in the wrong, but I would like justice; Report Consistency and holistic analysis.

So, I was chat restricted for ten games due to a rank game I played, although my behavior wasn't justified, I would like to question both the consistency of reporting in League of Legends and the social efficacy of restricting players like me when another was not at all, and the particular injustice that this brings.

This chat log was sent to me. I added some things that happened in the game in "()", of course, as this was a few days ago, I do not remember every event that happened.

Game 1 "EricMichaelis: whats with this voice lmao EricMichaelis: vision EricMichaelis: shaco bot EricMichaelis: nicee EricMichaelis: sona please stop talking start playing bruh (Sona was spamming in chat that ___ adc..etc. was a moron; I was top, Sona was saying stuff like 'stfu' every time someone asked something of her - i.e. rotate..etc.) EricMichaelis: sona please focus EricMichaelis: srs (At this point, Sona was feeding and dying for no reason, very suspect of intentional feeding, as she was running down a lane, and dying consistently) EricMichaelis: we can win EricMichaelis: lol EricMichaelis: 9x this sona please EricMichaelis: sold all items and bought trin :/ (Self-reflection of chat, Sona sold all support items and bought trinity force, completely trolling at this point) EricMichaelis: have fun EricMichaelis: banned EricMichaelis: xd EricMichaelis: idc (At this point, Sona was insulting me and a teammate, and being very homophobic) EricMichaelis: u fking autistic (Blind anger, this was my bad. Ableist rhetoric is never okay, but homophobia should not be either - in relation to the context of this case) EricMichaelis: lol u dumb fuck EricMichaelis: u have 2 dads (You may think this is ironic and evident for homophobia in the case for me, but against someone who's homophobic only they would assume this in a negative connotation, especially if they insult people with 'u gay' etc.) EricMichaelis: gtfo sona (Even took a jab at my mom, and how she was 'unhappy to have borne me', but this is not the point here, as I was toxic as well which I admit) EricMichaelis: my mom was v happy EricMichaelis: its mother's day ;) (More homophobia from Sona) EricMichaelis: stfu u homophobic fuck start playing lmao (At this point full-blown intentionally feeding) EricMichaelis: uninstall EricMichaelis: rn'= (In response to intentional feeding:) EricMichaelis: u don't deserve this game EricMichaelis: good for you EricMichaelis: so leave EricMichaelis: don't want people like u here :( EricMichaelis: 9x EricMichaelis: okay EricMichaelis: keep on playing EricMichaelis: climb to b5 EricMichaelis: there's people like u there EricMichaelis: find a home x EricMichaelis: lol EricMichaelis: just 9x EricMichaelis: i can win my next game EricMichaelis: ez EricMichaelis: not everyone is as dumb as sona :( (Sona insults adc, calling Lucian dumb; I did soloqueue, so this was not even a duoqueue thing) EricMichaelis: somehow stayed revelant with u as sup EricMichaelis: he's a genius EricMichaelis: Please report Sona! ggwp"

Before the end sometime, Sona sold all her items and bought all the tear of Goddess that she could afford.

At the very end of the game, when the nexus was about to be destroyed, she sold her tear of Goddesses and bought a Hextech GLP, as to evade getting any suspension.

She finished 3/18, being negative all game, toxic while intentionally feeding.

I got restricted, Sona did not get any punishment whatsoever. What?

I do admit that this is not the first time I have been toxic, although this is the first time I got chat restricted, but I believe that this case is still unfair nevertheless, so I would like to report it.

I believe that this is unfair, and I would like an appeal or at least some punishment for Sona, especially in a ranked game. However, under holistic circumstances, I believe RIOTers would come to the same conclusion.

Winning early game lane and not the game is absolutely okay with me, especially when I made many mistakes after getting tilted, but not when it's from intentionally feeding.

[PLAYER NAME REMOVED BY MODERATION]

Again, I know it is not okay to be toxic, and have known beforehand, but sometimes it really is frustrating and it is the human condition to make mistakes through anger. But I do not believe a one-sided punishment, for this game, is okay; especially when another player broke more terms of conditions.

Please correct me if I'm wrong; I know I deserve the chat-restriction, but I would just like some deconstruction on this issue.

You wouldn't know whether or not another player got a punishment, and them receiving one or not (or their behavior meriting one) doesn't change your own behavior. If you reported them, their behavior will be reviewed, just as your behavior was reviewed when someone reported you.

If a player doesn't get reported, that player will not be reviewed, regardless of whether or not someone else in the match does get reported. And this is only fair - it allows players to (in some small way) control what they consider acceptable in League. If you have higher tolerance for flaming or insults, then, fine, you're less likely to report flamers or insults - and vice versa.

But, the point is, a player should not be punished if nobody reported them. They shouldn't even be so much as reviewed. It would be an extremely unfair punishment system if everyone got reviewed from one person getting reported, as that would put players who otherwise would have been fine under pointless, excessive scrutiny.

As an example, let's create a little scenario here:

You're part of a 5-man premade, and you and your teammates love to harass and insult each other. You consider it good fun, and you only ever do it when you're in your five-man premade, so as not to subject other players to your toxicity. Then, one match, you and your entire five-man premade leave the post-game screen and get a chat restriction (or worse), but you know none of you reported one another, and no one said a word in /all chat.

Someone on the enemy team reported one of their own for one reason or another, and the IFS (reviewing all players, despite only one being reported) finds your chat to be in breach of the rules, and punishes you and your premade.

Would you consider that fair?

A 10-game chat restriction is the lightest punishment one can receive and was warranted in this case due to the persistent harassment, which includes report begging. You should keep in mind that you are responsible for your own behavior, regardless of what other people do.

I missed it on the first read, but name-and-shame is not permitted on the boards. I have removed the other player's name as a result.

If you want to talk about consistnecy, Let's have you understand how the system works.

The system punishes based on consistency x severity, but let's put it in simpler terms;

  1. When the system receives a report, it will get the reported player's game for toxicity.
  2. The system will assign a score based on its findings (no toxicity = 0pts)
  3. The points will be accumulated onto the existing player's toxicity points
  4. If the player passes 100 pts, they will get punished.

There are scenarios where you will get punished and others won't. Assuming playerA flamed playerB and playerB said a few words back to him, but playerA was much more toxic than playerB.

At the end of the game, both reported each other and the systems gives a score of 40pts to playerA and 5pts to playerB. If playerA started the game with 50pts and playerB started with 95pts, playerB will get punished in that game (95+5=100) but playerA will not get punished (50+40=90).

If playerA played a few more games and got validly reported, there is a high chance that he will accumulate over 100pts and get punished. But keep in mind that playerB won't necessarily get a punishmnet notification.

Trolling and smart feeding is currently hard for the system to detect, so those actions are normally reviewed manually and punished with a 14-day ban as 1st offense and a permaban for the second offense. There will be no punishmnet notification when a manual review punishes a player.

That said, a lot of people confuse trolling/inting with bad games. True trolling and inting happens much less than you thought, so maybe the sona was just bad.
