Difference Between AFK and Bad Servers

I very rarely quit out of a game or "rage quit." Not saying I never done it but you probably be able to count the number of times I've done it in League of Legends with one hand. Was playing rank this morning and was stuck in the loading screen and never switched over to the game. After I restart the client and went into the game my screen was frozen. No one was moving from where they originally were in game when I entered and my character would not move, despite it making the sound effects as if I were moving (character voices when you move). After trying to reconnect several times and getting the same result I had no choice but to AFK. Then I got penalize for it when I logged back in and had to wait 5 mins before starting a game for 5 different times.

Why is there no system to prevent this? I understand they can't fix lag on servers on specific games however they need to have a report system that you cannot connect due to lag in order to prevent this.

If there's no notification in the client+on the Service Status Page then it was not Riot's fault you couldn't connect, and you were therefore responsible.

You might want to post this under help and support because this seems to be a problem with either your computer or your client. Your computer may be relatively new, but making sure that you keep all your drivers up to date is important and can cause issues if they are not current.

A couple of questions that I have:

  • What are the specs of your computer? Specifically the CPU and Graphics card.
  • How often has something like this happened?
  • What is your ping normally like?
  • If you get into a game and this error happens, what is your ping then?
  • When did this start happening?

To me, it seems like something went wrong with the client, and some files probably got corrupted. In order to fix that, all you have to do is start the League client, Press on the "?" in the upper right hand corner, and click on repair client. This can take up to half an hour to complete. If you still have problems, send in a support ticket and they can help your further.

It seems like you didn't want to AFK, but making sure that your client is in proper working order is your responsibility. Hence why you were punished.

Unfortunately, I don't think the error logs for the game client and afkers are dependent on each other, which does sound incorrect. The only solution is to start a petition to get Riot Games to actually make quality of life improvements to League of Legends.
