Is LoL really a team game?

People in this are so much quicker to down someone and flame them rather than respecting and helping them do better and work as a team. It just doesn't really make sense. I understand League being competitive, but this game just lacks that " I got your back" vibe. If anything, this game is "I can't trust nobody but myself and carry. as well as "I have to force myself to ignore the 99.9% toxicity of this game or Ill be punished".

It's a team game but the popular misconception is that: team game = use chat. You don't need to use chat to communicate or otherwise play as a team.

Just take notes from high elo players that know how to read plays, act accordingly and play as a team without using chat at all (only voice chat or pings)

Is it a team game? I think better coordination (i.e., using chat/comms/pings constructively towards objectives and building better teamwork in your game) improve your odds to win. Maybe not guarantee a win, but improve your odds and at least whether or not you'll enjoy the game.

League of legends actually forces you to play and help your teammates because if you don't, the game becomes super one sided. The game is heavily orientated on early game and snowballing atm that if you ignore teammates or choose not to help them, the game can become superbly unbalanced. League basically expects you to pick up the slack your teammates leave behind. I think the problem with this style of game is that it leaves distrust among teammates and their overall skill level. What makes things worse is snowballing in league is more prevalent due to it being a moba. In CSGO, although someone is carrying, you still have a fair chance of taking them down. With league however. unless with atleast 3 people. You won't be able to take down champs easily if they have a item lead or gold lead. The more items they have, the harder it becomes to kill the snowballer. Although items matter in CSGO, there is a huge punishment if you die with such items. In league however, The only punishment is a bounty and respawn time. The maximum bounty doesn't even match up to one item and sometimes not even a component depending on the build. So although this game promotes teamwork, they contradict themselves with snowball characters that encourage players to have a mentality of backpacking your teammates. And although snowballers can get out scaled half way into a game of league, that solely depends on being able to survive the onslaught of early game that can severely leaves the team demoralized and behind.

Don't let terrible experiences determine how you feel about the game. Trust me, when you've got a team that's 100% receptive to criticism and advice and are supporting and friendly, you will NOT lose. I've never lost when my team is all down to play together and win.

Not in a long time now. Watch MSI. The "best" teams are all solo queue players with insane mechanics and Silver-level macro play and horrible at teamfighting.

The game is closer to Call of Duty than a team-based tactical game.

It is a team game, but the fact that it is played over the internet instead of in person allows people to more easily dehumanize others, and allows players who are unsportsmanlike to more safely get away with their shit talk.

In League, your team mate dies three times in a row in top, all you see is them dying. In Baseball, your pitcher gives up three home runs in a row, you can see him getting pissed off and frustrated more than anyone else on the team is, and therefore you know he is trying, and its just not working.

In League, you call someone trash or tell them to kill themselves, all that person can do to retaliate is block you, mute you, ignore you, report you, or flame you back. In Hockey if you call someone trash or tell them to kill themselves, you might just get punched in the face.

The lack of proximity makes it harder to empathize with another player, and easier to treat them poorly knowing that you are safe from potential confrontations.

Basically, its the same problem that ANY online team game would have.

Yes it is a team game. And flaming doesn't help the team. It just makes the flamer lose more. Trying to do too much also doesn't help the team because then you get caught out and help the other team

Its a team game that puts complete strangers together on a team. So obviously theyre not gonna be the most coordinated. And if youre in low elo, it will seem even less team oriented. Thats the players' fault. The mechanics and concepts of the game are quite obviously team oriented. People just have different ideas, levels of knowledge, levels of skill, and theyre being put together. If you want a real serious competitive team experience, you need to find a team. Not just match with strangers using text and pings to communicate.

i have been trying to explain this to people for a long time now..... i don't recall ever going to a football game or a basketball game and watching any of the team members bash one another, bitch at one another, or try to pick random fights with one another.... nor do you hear about our military going in to war and then just stopping in the middle of the war to all bitch and bicker at one another. I think its safe to say we would have lost our country to someone else a long time ago if they did.... But for whatever reason the vast majority of players in this game seem to lack the sense to realize and understand that. In any other team related thing (besides maybe a job somewhere working with others.) they would only be aggressive towards enemy players. Not towards each other. speaking of the job thing... How do these guys that go in to a match and act like that manage to work somewhere with other people without acting like a douche bag if they can not even refrain from doing it in a far less important thing like a video game? I seriously believe the guys that go in to matches and start shit and bitch at people minding their own business are the kind of guys that grew up bossing their parents around and the parents never set their foots down on them. So now they ended up going in to adult hood thinking its all fine and dandy to go around picking fights and insulting whoever they please, because their parents allowed them to do it with them.

in a solo que setting, no its not. with the lack of quick voice communications it will never evolve above where it is.
