Permanent Bans

So I am a player that had his first account banned about 2 years ago and I deserved it considering my mouth was ridiculous. Recently, another one of my buddies accounts got banned for verbal and he probably deserved it too. However, permanently banning a player for verbal abuse is, in my opinion, way too harsh of a punishment. Yes they are toxic and yes they shouldn't be that way but in most cases that I have come across its a heat of the moment thing and on top of that the players have spent hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars on this game. Am I suggesting that players should not be punished for their actions, absolutely not. I think that a serious reform should be in order for the punishment of accounts.

What I think should happen is that when a player hacks or cheats or anything of that nature, instant perma ban without a doubt. That is an appropriate consequence for those actions regardless of the amount of money spent on the game. However, when a player is verbally abusive maybe instead of perma banning the account, revoke their right to communicate at all permanently. We are all human and honestly this game brings out the absolute worst in me and I know Im not the only one. I am usually kind and I just have some fun with the chat but when people start doing things that affect my gameplay or progression and they do them specifically to harm me or the players in the game (such as intentionally feeding or flaming us because we don't listen to them just because they think their right) it aggravates me and ruins the entire experience which then angers me. Yes this is my problem and yes I don't HAVE to retaliate, but I do.. And in most everyday situations this wouldn't be true but in League for whatever reason, it is. When I lost my first account back in season 2 or 3, I also lost around 500-700$ in skins, icons and different things like that. This isnt even grazing the surface of what some players have probably spent on their accounts probably. I have tried different approaches such as mute all, taking breaks/intermissions and such and none of that really works for me. Don't get me wrong I completely understand thats a ME problem and not a LEAGUE problem. The one thing that seemed to always work in lessening my "flaming" or verbal abuse was the chat restriction. I would rather use my few chats to call out important info like "MIA" or bot lane flash down or dragon timers (when you had to keep track of them) rather than respond to the jerk on my team calling GG in the first 7 minutes of the game because he was being camped top lane.

My underlying point to this entire thread is that it is completely and totally unfair to ban someones account forever due to something that can be solved in a much less severe way while still allowing them to play but not get angry and ruin the game for others with verbal abuse. I know that there is a summoner code and I know that we are agreeing to that every time we login and I also know it takes $0 and less than 0 seconds to be a decent human being but its not always easy for everyone lol I come home from a stressful day at work and sometimes all I want to do is sit down and play a game of league but as soon as I que up I have last pick yelling "MID OR FEED" and then following through with that threat when things dont go their way and sometimes I just can't contain things. (Again a me problem)

I just wanted to say that and I know half of you are just going to say "you shouldn't have been toxic and that wouldn't have happened" or "stop crying" or whatever is said but the truth of the matter is there is literally no reason as to why Riot cant just fix the problem by enabling a permanent mute on the account. I have even reached out to riot in email and have asked them to mute my account permanently so that it doesn't get banned permanently and they told me they couldn't. Keep in mind I am not a player that intentionally feeds or afks in games so a mute would solve every problem with me. There have been sometimes where I have gotten chat ban punished for celebrating a kill in all chat lol and I dont mean being a jerk about it i literally mean "good job, we finally got that little roach" or something similar when Im playing khazix or something.. Like when did league become so sensitive that you can't talk a little mess all in good fun? My account got permanently banned for far worse than that, I know but I was just giving an example. Anyways, just giving my opinion.

For general toxicity (not extreme hate speech and death threats), I agree. And so does Riot. That's why they give you several chat restrictions and a temporary ban before resorting to the permanent ban.

If a permanent punishment was not necessary for those that get it, wouldn't they have stopped when they got temporary restrictions? Refusing to change with temporary punishment is only proof that a permaban is needed, sorry.

If you're unaware, the way punishment is handled has changed recently. There are 4 tiers of increasingly harsh punishments, dealt in order;

  • 10 game chat restriction
  • 25 game chat restriction
  • 14 day account ban
  • permanent account ban

Should there be more tiers before the permaban? Maybe. But until they change it, you gotta know the consequences and decide what actions are worth it.

I think they should ban differently.

they should ban the MAC address of the computers they use.

Honestly dude, I have the exact same story as you and this account is permanently banned. I used to say things i'd never say in real life in this game because I felt like I needed to be as severe as possible with the people who intentionally go online to ruins peoples day. However as nice as your suggestion is, it's not going to happen. I'd successfully reformed. The one thing I advocate for all the time is actually the opposite of what you're saying. I want the punishments to be harsher. So it's not just me and you getting punished but people who are usually the catalyst of us going off on them ( I know exactly what youre saying, people like you and me, don't come into games trolling and being toxic THERE IS ALWAYS someone else starting it and we just take it to a permanently bannable level)

Advocate with me for harsher punishments and I think surprisingly people who used to be like me and you will actually feel less hopeless in game when people troll and abuse us and we will think twice before being toxic.
