Appealing a Permaban (First Offense, no prior punishments)

Hi all,

I just want to first of all, admit that YES I WAS TOXIC and I understand why I was punished. However, I want to point out that, as the title states, I was not given any chat restrictions, warnings, or bans prior to this incident, so I find it extremely unreasonable that my account automatically escalated into a permaban status. To go into detail of the incident:

My reform card only details a single game and nothing more; I'll add an imgur link for those curious. Two main points regarding the game:

  1. I was a SOLO QUEUE player grouped in with a 4-MAN QUEUE who were just as, if not more, toxic than me during the game and assume that they all reported me as a group; by toxic, I mean toxic to me specifically. I understand that I'm judged for my own actions and not theirs, however, I don't think that it is right to escalate a punishment to a permaban when they antagonized and harassed me all game via all-chat and excessive pinging to the extent that I TURNED OFF /MUTEALL TO DEFEND MYSELF IN ALL-CHAT. I clearly shouldn't have done this, but at this point, the 4-man queue had made me extremely upset/tilted.

  2. Detailing the all-chat experience, there are very certain phrases in my chat-log, namely, "I'm autistic" and "I'll run down mid" (I didn't actually run down mid fyi) which were said by me sarcastically as a result of my team, namely a Janna and a Shyvana, calling me autistic and telling me to run down mid because a 4v5 experience without me would make it that much of a better game. Again, I want to reiterate that I should've kept them on /muteall but when the enemy team gets to hear the amount of degrading comments made towards me, I felt the need to defend myself. Obviously, their chat-log is not available and it is entirely your choice whether or not to believe what I say. Hopefully, Riot can review my case and affirm what I'm saying.

With all this being said, I want appeal my permanent ban to a lighter punishment. Even a 14-day ban will do. Again, I admit that I was toxic, but I think that a single toxic game against a 4-man queue ganging up on me does NOT warrant a permanent ban, given no prior warnings or restrictions.

I've sincerely learned my lesson from this experience and do not want my experience as a League player to be cut short because of a single game. As with many others previously in my position, I've put way too much time, effort, and money into this account to just give up now. It is really upsetting and frustrating to see that, even after reporting the entire 4-man queue, they all get away scott-free (none of them received punishments) for their comments and I, as a player with no previous punishments, get the ban hammer with the snap of a finger.

EDIT: @Riot, please respond to this thread and review my case. Although what I said was indeed egregious, I don't feel that it warrants a zero-to-permaban status. I give permission for you to release any pertinent information here and communicate with me through this thread if necessary.

There is a zero tolerance policy on hate speech, and using the homophobic slur is likely the reason you were escalated multiple punishment tiers, then you also threatened to intentionally feed by running down mid, which is also an offense that warrants escalation.

You might be able to get it reduced to a 14 day for all I know (submit a ticket), but those two things are why you were immediately punished so harshly.

AeroWaffle10/30/2016, 8:55:46 PM6 votes

I mean, you were incredibly rude, used a homophobic slur (Riot is particularly heavy-handed against anyone who uses hate speech), and you threatened to intentionally feed.

But given that it's incredibly rare that Riot sends out a perma on the first offense I don't think this should be the punishment based on the single game.

This is assuming that the chat logs given is the only one that contributed to the ban, and that you're telling the truth about this being your first punishment in the system.

Edit: As a side note, good on you being as polite as you are and admitting to your behavior. It's refreshing compared to most of the other threads attempting to appeal their bans. Have an upvote, hope you get your answer from Riot.

You are judged solely upon your actions, and not that of others. It doesn't matter if it's one player or 9 players. you're expected to be the better person.

3rd Photo: use of an offensive slur

Final photo, and by your own admission: Threatening to Run down mid and feed.

I suspect there's other cases you haven't displayed good sportsmanship, but that what for whatever reason, this was the only log sent to you.

OnlyYouCanHearMe10/30/2016, 10:22:39 PM2 votes

Sadly, using the homophobic slur and taking their own use of a mental disability as a slur to use yourself are things that Riot doesn't look too kindly on. In the email they sent you, did it include any other incidents beyond the one on the client reform card?

I wish you the best of luck with Support, but if their decision isn't overturned, then at least you seem to have learned from this so that you won't have to worry about it being repeated on any other accounts you create.

I read the chat logs, it doesn't seem that bad to me.... certainly not zero-to-permaban worthy. Maybe a chat restriction though.

In any case I would highly recommend putting in a support ticket if you truly believe you have been maligned. I was hit with an almost identical zero-to-permaban punishment about 6 months ago and it was eventually overturned. The difference was I didn't get chat logs until way later and was left completely in the dark for a long time before Riot finally decided to end radio silence.

a single toxic game against a 4-man queue ganging up on me does NOT warrant a permanent ban, given no prior warnings or restrictions.

You'd be surprised how many people would argue otherwise. The system is VERY draconian and there are those that want it to be even worse. That being said; I hope you are able to recover your account.

DD, I remember many times I had agreed with you. Even now I don't disrespect your opinion !! However, I Disagree with you about use of 'draconian', I understand you may still be upset, yet most people agree with Riot's ban system even when they don't say so here..

Let me just put the meaning of it up so I remember it ....

'Draconian' so I quote your meaning: Is this the definition you mean to use?

Use the word Draconian (or lowercase draconian) to describe laws or rules that are really harsh and repressive. In ancient Athens, Draco was a guy who made some seriously strict laws. So rules that are too restrictive — or just plain unfair — are called Draconian. Sentencing someone to 10 years in prison for littering would be Draconian. Some people think Singapore's chewing gum ban is Draconian. This is a strong word, so if your parents make you do chores, they aren't being Draconian. But if they make you do chores for five hours every day, that's another story.

I actually have a friend 'Tang' who lives in Singapore, and I believe that dropping a piece of gum on the ground and possibly ending in 'Jail' is 'draconian', I don't believe Riots rules are! I'm Sorry if I have misunderstood your use of the word, I simply believe it is a tad to strong for some situations.

Many people need to learn the rules, or I really should say players need to follow the rules of the TOS. It really isn't a very hard system to understand, and when OP wants to put up 'their' chat logs w/o advertisement then I will read in full, until then I'll do what I can to help each of us if I can. ( On face value I accept OP's answer to why it is on this board) In another very real way I want to know why what looks like an advertisement is still up?

EvilDustMan10/30/2016, 8:44:26 PM2 votes

Not even a hat restriction?

Astôlfo10/30/2016, 11:16:52 PM2 votes

Sorry, but your chatlogs were so lengthy, yet so full of extreme and intolerable language. If I had to guess, the autism comments were the trigger for the permanent ban, but the rest of the chatlog where you were continually harrassing your teammates would have earned you at least a 25-game chatban, if not 14-day ban. Also, there is a zero-tolerance policy for hatespeech.

Just out of curiosity what is the next image you posted about bar-tending? I got off that asap as I don't see it has a thing to do with what your thread is about...Mistake?

With due respect, a single report or a 4-man has nothing to do with a punishment...Once a report is filed it's in the system if 1 to 4 or 9 people report you in the game it is still going to count as a Single reported game...Hope that clears things up for you and others reading.

a single toxic game against a 4-man queue ganging up on me does NOT warrant a permanent ban, given no prior warnings or restrictions.

I think you should be punished lighter.

You know the saying: "Don't judge a book by its cover."

i guess you got rekt

nerak2310/30/2016, 11:14:44 PM1 votes

As I said in my thread though, hopefully Riot reviews the chat-log in its entirety (and an honest shame that I'm only given my own) as I feel that I'd have a significantly stronger case in defense of myself.

If you have any doubt about it then send in a ticket..this is private..I could give you some advice if you 'want' it on how to proceed...care though my internet is on on off right now, I assume because of a storm in my area.

You could ask for Riot to help you here, may or may not be quicker, then you have to deal with the community. Personally, I find most cases that have been punished in anyway ..I feel that the punishment is correct...

Don't get me wrong though! I have seen a 'few' cases overturned... So, even when it seems I'm trying to be a 'hard ass' it is not always the case. When I wish people luck I always mean it.. and in this case GL.....Still, though I'm waiting to know why the ad after your information? Just wondering Why hahaha No relevance really to this subject..answer?

Sarutobi10/30/2016, 11:21:33 PM1 votes

Im going to assume as well that with how long your chatlogs seems to be that the client wasnt able to show you more games. I would suggest that you contact Riot support to see other evidence. While these chatlogs does show you being toxic im sure you must have done something much worse to get a straight permaban.

GankRiven10/30/2016, 11:32:10 PM1 votes

the community cannot appeal a ban. youre best bet is to send in a support ticket and ask a rioter directly. it sounds like im being an asshole but this is the truth.

nerak2310/30/2016, 11:46:36 PM1 votes

As for your question regarding the ad, I don't see it, likely due to Adblock. It's probably just due to imgur's site and isn't part of my pictures.

Thanks, might be that. Like I said I was curious and a bit cautious about it, but that does make since to me.

As to your question, 1st off someone may read this that has access to Rioters, and they may be able to direct someone here, or a Random Roiter may just see it.

I'd say 2 ways to get someone to pay attention in a helpful way would just say @ Riot or @any Blue ( of your choice) please help me answer this and I give you permission to post what is going on, is one way..

If this doesn't work, Try A new Thread @Riot, your choice of phrase, best to try to be nice. ( w/e) you wish to say include that they the Company may provide incite, and information.

One last thing though, if you do this on a public board, of course your answer is going to be - Well, public....I'd really suggest a ticket. Hope I have provide some help, either way I'm off to Try to watch the World Series, hoping my team wins it tonight...so be kind and quote me or something if you get a response :) I'd like to see how this turns out. Thanks and good Luck.
