Riot needs to rework this report system, i just had a game where i split pushed and got 9x reported because i was "trolling" while everyone sided with the guy telling me to kill myself and my one report on him did nothing. He gets through and gets to tell more people they're "****ing retarded" and should kill themselves while i get more reports on my record for doing a viable strategy. and before you accuse me of "feeding and ruining the game by not helping the team" i had taken multiple towers and had equal to least deaths on the team. This report system is breeding exactly what it's supposed to prevent because now the abusers are just using it to abuse people too.

Getting reported doesn't mean anything by itself. Reports only trigger reviews. If you get reported 1 time or a billion times it isn't going to change what that review finds. It is what the review finds that gets you punished.

If you got reported 9 times and didn't do anything the only thing that happened is 9 people had the value of their future reports go down.

Even if im not punished for their reports my report still doesnt go through and he goes on to abuse other people who may not even report him

Because that wasn't the final straw game. Assuming people keep reporting those guys, they'll eventually get punished.

people who say that are supposed to be punished right away but often the system doesn't catch it.

The system defintiely took your report into account if that's what the player said. That's a punishable offense. However, it checks other things before it hands out the chat restriction or ban. Has this player had other legitimate reports against him/her? If this is the first time in awhile that the player has been reported for a serious act of verbal abuse, then the player might just be having a really bad day and he or she is normally a neutral player that doesn't deserve to get punished... yet. If he or she keeps up the bad behavior, then he or she will get punished. You won't get the report message because your report wasn't the final one to cause the player to get punished. If on the other hand the player has been on a "tilt streak" and has been flaming for his or her past several games, then your report may very well be the one to cause the system to punish the player and give you the message. In this case it wasn't, but rest assured that if the player keeps up with his or her behavior, he or she will eventually be punished, and your report did help.

unfortunately this doesn't seem to be how it works, i mainly play jungle, and no matter how good i perform, how well our team does, i get flamed 90% of matches without even saying a word. if something goes wrong, i often immediatly get called something along the lines of "autistic" or told to kill myself without ever even pressing enter to open the chat box. i have yet to even receive one of these report messages, and when i submit screenshots through the manual report outlet i get told they dont discuss player punishment and that it shouldnt be done. if i have a screenshot of a player literally threatening to come to my house and bash my skull in (this has happened) and nothing is done about it, theres no reason to have this system. All im seeing here is that they implemented a system with a goal that it is not doing. unless im some super special case where these aren't reportable offenses i dont see what could be the point of having this system, i understand there just words, but why fool me into thinking theres a way to help the community when it's evidently not working.

Look around this section of the boards, people are punished for that stuff all the time.

You just never know about other people's punishments the overwhelming majority of the time. Just becuase you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen. And just because the system didn't decide what they did was enough to be punished doesnt mean your report didn't count against them.

What sucks is the visibility the system provides back to the ones providing the report.

As you will only get a notification if someone actually got punished and not if it was building towards their case. We also don't know if you'll get the message if someone gets just chat restrictions.

Because of that, people keep thinking that their reports don't do anything and the perception is that toxicity is on the raise. Whereas, personally speaking, I've seen toxicity dropping throughout my games.

That being said, perception does mean alot and Riot did say that they are working on improving the visibility for the ones providing the reports. It probably won't come out until the new client is up and running without too many bugs.
