Premade Report Power

Hi, I was playing as usual and got into a match with a toxic premade.. the game was going fine until they all decided to harass me. They bombarded me with spam pings, two of them threatened to (and actually did) AFK. The rest of them sat in lane spamming emotes and dying or pandering in all chat for the enemy to report me. No way the enemy would see four people ganging up one and take their side I thought, but they did. Most likely because they're a premade too and feel like they have a 'bond'. I forgot to screenshot the postgame lobby where they were spamming "9x this one boiz xd" and "better type faster Poppy, before you get 9 reports hehe xd omegalul" other toxic things.. I really thought Riot would actually review this as nearly every forum post would promise. But within 3 minutes of that premade harassing me in the post game lobby, a notification box popped up and said my account is suspended for 14 days.

Here is the only chat log provided warranting my 'punishment'. I hope the other thousands of people who endure this same fate know they're not alone. Premades DO have power, especially against solo queue players.

Is it not possible that frequency and number of reports holds more weight than the accuracy? Assuming Riot personally had a staff member mandate this punishment, how could they have managed it so quickly? It would have taken more than 5 minutes to review everything... yet I was punished in seconds after submitting 4 reports on my team. Surely they have an automatic system to sift through the millions of cases/players?

I'm not asking to rebuke what's been done. But I, and so many others, feel premades have more power than they should.

Two points:

Have you had any prior punishments before this?

And could you provide a screen cap of the chat logs? I'm sorry to act like I don't believe you, but there have been multiple times before people who have edited their chat logs to remove certain parts to make themselves appear innocent.

All knowledge we have is that report amount makes no difference. The snippet of code we've seen is basically literally

if (reports > 0) ----review logs

So for you to claim otherwise would require some extraordinary evidence with conclusive backing that it is valid.

Rioters have consistently and repeatedly stated that it's not the case. Here's a quote:

[{quoted}](name=Riot Tantram,realm=NA,application-id=ZGEFLEUQ,discussion-id=unobngtr,comment-id=00000000000000010001000200000000000000000001,timestamp=2016-04-05T18:00:32.861+0000)

Actually, Erdrik is correct here.

A report flags a game for review. They do not establish guilt. The game is then reviewed for harassment, feeding, etc. This is why 'troll reporting' or 'gang reporting' do not work. False or inaccurate reports are thrown out.

You cannot ever be punished for saying nothing .. unless of course it's for something gameplay related like feeding, afking or cheating. But, you can never be punished for offensive language, hate speech or verbal abuse if you said nothing.

So, assuming Tantram doesn't lie to us about his boolean code that another person posted or about the statement above... your statement is just wrong and you should stop trying to make excuses as to why you got punished and look at your own behavior.

Just reading it, it definitely feels like you were getting harassed... however, that doesn't justify harassing people back. There's no reason to fight fire with fire. All you're doing is just making the situation worse.

Have you had prior chat restrictions? I can definitely see this as a punishment escalation for ignoring chat restrictions in the past. Almost every line in this chat log is flaming and/or arguing with your teammates.

I highly suggest adopting the mute, report, and move on method.

Hey there! You requested my input, so here it is. :)

The first thing to note is that premade teams don't have any more reporting power than you as an individual. The system functions like this:

  • You receive X reports in a game.
  • The system checks to see if X is greater than 0. If it is, it passes your log into the review process.

In short, there is no place in the system where the review process part of it cares what X is, because it doesn't actually get that data -- it just gets the chat logs to review, and treats them all equally.

So with that taken care of, let's look at your logs.

I'm a bit surprised this got a 14-day ban, and am curious to know if you had any previous punishments -- if you had a prior chat restriction, this is probably appropriate.

The issue with these logs is that, while you didn't insult or flame back, you spent the entire game engaged in a negative conversation about how your team is harassing/spamming you and how you'll report them and they'll be punished. While I get that it's tempting to do that, it's important to remember that that isn't being a positive teammate, a good sport, or really doing anything other than putting yourself at odds with your teammates. There's a difference between standing up for yourself (although even that isn't necessary, as if you don't have problematic behavior in your logs or your gameplay then you can get nine reports and have no strikes against you) and being antagonistic.

For example: let's assume I'm in a game and someone says "Djinn is feeding and flaming us. Report him, please" in all-chat.

Appropriate Response: "I'm actually just having an off day, and definitely picked a fight I shouldn't have against Darius, so the whole lane sort of went down-hill from there." << I'd probably say this in team-chat alone, as there's no reason to do a he-said/she-said thing in all-chat, although if I did I'd probably just write something like "Not actually, but let's just focus on the game and not make a big scene about it."

What you did here is closer to turning it around and attacking back rather than defending -- which isn't okay, as counter-attacking isn't acceptable. I definitely see your confusion here as to why this happened (as, since you were being attacked, it may not feel like a counter-attack), but you always have to step out of the moment and look at your wording and behavior a bit more objectively.

This is certainly behavior I'd expect to see get a warning, and, if you had a prior chat restriction, an escalation would be the next step, sad though it is to say it. If you did not have a previous chat restriction, I would definitely contact Player Support to see if they can give you a bit more of an explanation, as I would not have expected this to earn a 14-day ban on a fresh account by any stretch of the imagination.

At last, Chermorg's lost his sense of "dominance" and no longer rules the forums with prejudice. I can't say I'm surprised.. using his "status" as leverage to entice mob mentality against all who disagree with him. The truth is rarely pure.

type in /muteall and you wouldn't be banned

you got your feelings hurt and instead of muting you retaliated

instead of ignoring the problem and never dealing with those players again, you engaged them and exacerbated the problem

end of story, how is this even a topic?

No, they don't. You were not punished because you got X number of reports. You were punished because you used them harassing you as an excuse to harass them back.

It doesn't matter they started it - you continually harassed others in the game and that's not okay.
