So I get a chat ban because my team got upset that I was telling them how to play.

This is beyond laughable. I'm in a game and our Elise is overextending to the extreme, refusing to listen to the team and come to drags (she is the jungle and we need the smite). Blatantly going the opposite direction that everyone else on the team is going. So I call her trash because that is exactly what she is. This is not an opinion, this is fact based conclusions based on player performance. my team then decides over and over to try and teamfight with 4v5 odds and we go from me carrying the game as Pantheon to getting destroyed and I'm the one that gets a chat ban because of it? The league needs to take a serious look at banning player that make the game unplayable for the other 4 people on their team rather than someone who gets mad and tells the team that what they are deciding to do is stupid and is losing us the game. I've had people call me a fucking (N) for 40 mins straight and no ban for them, but I tell some 14 year olds that they're dumb and need to go learn how to play and I get a chat ban. Extremely disappointed in Riot right now and I need a mod to link me to the appeal process for this miscarriage of justice.

Chat is a necessary part of the game and by not having it, Riot has decided to cripple me in games after already matching me with players below my skill level. This is the elo hell ghettos

The irony of you name makes me laugh. Please, I am self sufficient and don't need a White Knight coming to my rescue. Lil Mac should be free to express his/her thoughts in the way of his/her choosing. it is not "lowering to [anyone's] level" it is the freedom of speech that everyone is entitled to. I do not have to be nice to people in this world and we need to move away from this infantile idea as society.

There's this thing called self esteem that I have that makes it so I don't break down as a human being when people say "mean" things to me. I was a bad player once, I thought the decisions that I was making were the right ones. I didn't understand the value of the global objectives or what it meant to teamfight. People raged at me, I didn't like it, so I decided to go watch streamers and read up on the different positions and the team gameplay. By calling the elise trash I'm getting her attention that what she is doing is wrong. That she is the reason we are losing games and maybe if the experience is bad enough she will chose to go play a different game that is within her skill range or actually decide to progress as a player. You don't need to hug people to get them to play better. That's why coaches don't hold your hand a have a tea party when they're telling you how to play a sport better.

Alright, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to change your opinion here, but let's try.

First there are a number of things to address.

  2. Use of the N-word is highly punishable and often results in escalated punishment. You report them, they'll get punished. Just because you didn't get a 'they got punished' notice, didn't mean they got away scot-free.

  3. There is no appeal process, and you would not be eligible for it based on what you said. You can submit a ticket, but you won't get it overturned, I assure you.

  4. It's not a matter of having no self-esteem. It's a matter of getting frustrated while you are trying to play because someone feels it is their right to call another person trash.

  5. I am glad that you went and studied streams and watched people play and generally learned how to play better. I don't have a lot of time to do that and some people just don't want to put in the effort. It's going to happen. If you got pushed into learning how to play better because people called you 'trash', that's how it worked for you. That's not the case 90% of the time.

  6. No, calling someone 'trash' is not good criticism. It doesn't tell them what they did wrong, and it's only going to make them angry. And when someone gets angry, they start playing worse, not better.

  7. It's not up to you to pressure someone to play another game.

  8. Calling someone trash isn't going to make them suddenly decide to be a better player.

  9. A coach isn't going to call a player trash. A coach is going to tell them what they are doing wrong, take them aside during a break or after practice, and show them how to improve.

  10. The coach analogy does not fit anyways, because you are not anyone's coach in this game. You are another player on the team. You can offer helpful advice, but insulting someone won't make them play better, no matter how much it may or may not have worked on you.

How do you know those people cursing at you "for 40 mins straight" didnt get banned....? That is a poor assumption.

And I doubt you stopped at calling people "dumb"...i'm sure much more colorful language at a much more frequent rate was used...over several games. Don't be fooled by the whole "They only referenced 1 chat log in my ban" ...no no no, thats just the only example they game you as to why you got punished.

Regardless, chill out...its just a chat restrict...

chatban is your least worry. because the 3rd punishemend is 14 day bann. and after that its permabann. you better stop to "tell your team how to play"

I'll take that under advisement. Been playing since 2010 and this is the first one ever. I'll be sure to keep track of the "least of my worries." Maybe Riot should actually try to make a competitive community instead of a daycare for little kids.

well the new system isnt even a year old. i think (almost) noone plays ranked to lose. ppl are already competitive. just try to hold back in chat you dont seem like a bad person.

If you reported the Elise, you've done your job. Reports add up, build cases, and are reviewed. However, it's important to note that the actions of others are never considered to be an acceptable excuse for your actions - which means you don't get a pass, even if she was intentionally feeding and is banned for it.

This isn't just 'I am telling my teammates how to play the game.'

This is 'I am constantly insulting my teammates for the entire game.'

If you can't see why this is punishment worthy, I don't even know what to tell you.

There's a very, very large difference between trying to get someone to make better choices and personal insults.

Personal insults (I.e. You are trash) are never okay in any context. How angry you are is irrelevant. It also isn't going to help you win games.
