Is it Bad to Smurf?

Smurfing - "a low-level account belonging to a summoner who also has a high level account, a level 30. The smurf account is matched up with low level players once again because it is a new account." (http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Smurf)

Smurfing, is it good or bad?

Personally, I think it is EXTREMELY bad. This is a thing that the Rioters must jump in summoner 4 and talk about this.

2 Reasons why I think Smurfing isn't a good thing.

  • Salty Players

There is no doubt that this game isn't "Salt Free." (And yes, I am talking about all those Vayne Riven Yasuo mains who like to blame the jungler cause they got no gank and lost the lane.) Almost 1 out of 10 games, lets say, you meet a salty person and he just bad mouths the team and gets away with it. Now, if those Players make a new account and play with the new players that 100% don't know any MOBA games and are new to it, then probably they will see League of Legends as a bad community and not play the game. .I love to see a player get banned when they are just being a really big jerks. This can make other future players not want to play the game because of how the community is on and off the Rift.

  • Ego Booster

Some people just love to seem like a challenger when they play with low level players. A Diamond playing with bronzies (Which makes completely no sense what so ever), then the diamond player feels like a pro because he or she cannot play with their own league cause then they will be rekt. To me, this is a real problem when it comes to match making. The laner can go 0/7/0 and then get rained on with trash talking from both the enemy and teammates. Some people might say,"But I am actually a Diamond player and Rito Ranked me on the Silver league." Well, I recommend ALL PLAYERS to climb the ladders and go where you think you SHOULD belong. Beginners stay with beginners and pros stay with the pros.

We all have to be respectful to the new players that play. Even if you are the one losing or winning the game. I enjoy this game ALOT, but i slowly lose hope of the game where i encounter a salty player. ALL of us need to show the new guys how to play. We were all new players once. From the Season 1 players to the Pre-Season 6 players. Respect is key to a good community.

Smurfing, in and of itself, is fine. The matchmaking does actually filter fairly well, so smurfs don't stay in low-level games all that long.

As far as behavior? Unfortunately, the loudest, most noticeable smurfs can be the nastier ones. The other noticeable ones are Streamers who want broadcast an "impossible" rank climb. Those I count as a grey area because they may have to play down their abilities, which could be reported if someone figures out they're smurfing and intentionally throwing games to manipulate their initial placement.

The others, the ones that want to play with low level friends, practice an unfamiliar role/champion without getting blasted for playing "Beliow" their rank, or just to have an alternate account if they want to play anonymously? You'll be hard pressed to tell they are smurfs.

i think it is fine. Not everyones toxic that smurfs nor does it always boost there ego. Sometimes it is so they can play with there low elo friends who cant fight Plat+ remotely cause they are bronze 5 but there friends diamond 1. That is an extreme example but sometimes silvers "smurf" to try and restart there ranking thinking it will place them better or some bronze even. I don't think it is bad for the game because smurfs generally climb fast anyway and once again will be at there true rank.

I'm iffy on the subject. Some smurfs are in lower elos strictly because they aren't able to compete at their level of gameplay. Some are there to play with their lower elo friends so they don't match up with a platinum player. It depends on who it is. I, personally, don't see any gain from it, seeing as I can only get better in the elo I'm at now, so I don't do it.

I think it is. I think smurfing ruins games for lower level or lower tier people.

The analogy I always use, especially because League of Legends is now an eSport, is to physical sports.

Imagine if Le'Veon Bell (professional running back in American football, for those who don't know) donned the jersey of Groveport Madison High School (his alma mater) and went out on the field to play. In high school, it's common for players to have a role on both sides of the ball, because there aren't enough players to only have one role per player. So Le'Veon would have the running back role on offense and the tackle role on defense.

On offense, Le'Veon would be a monster. Every play, the quarterback would hand the ball off to Le'Veon, who, with his monstrous size and strength, would just plow right through the teenagers on the opposing team and score. On defense, every play, the ball would be snapped to the QB and Le'Veon would run right through the offensive line and put the QB on his back. The game isn't even fun any more. It's not fun for the opposing team because they're getting stomped and can't do anything. It's not fun for the other players on Le'Veon's team because they aren't even playing, they're just getting carried. But it's fun for Le'Veon because he's a scumbag.

For all you non-US people, replace Le'Veon Bell with Cristiano Ronaldo (or Lionel Messi if you prefer). The game would consist of:

  1. The team opposite Cristiano kicks off.
  2. They turn the ball over.
  3. Ronaldo's team passes to Ronaldo.
  4. Ronaldo scores.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for 90 minutes.

Smurfing is pure evil and should result in at least a permanent ban if not a castration.

As far as smurfs in lower ranked leagues this is what I have seen. If a player is really good and a smurf I.E. diamond or higher maybe low plat they will not say anything about smurfing and just move on up the ladder really quickly. Then you have people who are lower tier smurfs who say there smurfing and suck or are not really smurfing. Or say they are a plat smurf and are really maybe like gold 5. The only time it really bothers me is when people say "let me do xx role I am a smurf" and then they do freaking terrible. Which seems to happen a lot in silver. I do not love to get face rolled by a diamond smurf but I have hardly seen it happen and the only thing I have really seen in my many ranked games is people saying they are smurfing and then sucking really bad. That usually turns the game toxic.

So I guess if you are a couple tiers higher than players then don't say shit about smurfing and just play. If you are on an alternate account but your actual account is not ranked much higher or you just really fucking suck just stfu and play cuz no one cares or believes you.
