disregardable7 votesYes, that's called coercion. It's not sportsmanlike or acceptable in the community. I know that other guy was not sportsmanlike- If he is consistently breaking the rules, he'll get punished just like you did.
Ultimately, someone else breaking the rules doesn't make you exempt from the rules. You can't harass your teammates or make their experiences worse. If you decide to make a new account, you need to keep negativity out of the chat: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.

I think the most important thing to keep in mind here is to not argue over it. When you tell someone that what they're doing is against the rules, they're probably going to argue. That stupid "I'm not toxic, YOU'RE toxic" dialogue is exactly what you want to avoid.
If you only say that one sentence, mute the guy, and move on, nobody is ever going to report you. Most people won't remember you even said it.
But if you spend 10 minutes harassing some player in chat over what toxic thing he did instead of focusing on the game, nobody is going to have a good time, and you're going to get reported.
Edit: I mean there's still nothing to be gained from saying it. It'll usually add to the negative environment instead of helping it.

o Maui o4 votesHere's the thing: Riot has found that, overwhelmingly, calls to report/threats to report/notifications of intent to report do have an effect on the ongoing situation, and that effect is overwhelmingly negative. Essentially, you telling the other person you're going to report them is much more likely to make the situation worse than it is to make it better.
If you look at it this way, then it becomes clear that since it rarely makes the situation better and often makes the situation worse, it's a behavior that increases toxicity, which means that it's not acceptable. Remember that usually there are other people in the game who just want to play and have fun, and having two people continue to snipe at each other in chat about reports is not fun. The best way to defuse a situation is to mute and report; you don't have to tell the person you're reporting them, just do it and let them face the consequences of their actions.

Besides that, there are two problems with that analogy.
1: The person in League is no direct threat to you, so you have no excuse whatsoever to say anything bad about or to the guy at all.
2: You're not in your own domain, you're in Riot's controlled domain. Riot has dictated the only acceptable communication in the game is sportsmanlike behavior. You're not allowed to say things that are mean to other players. Even if you feel like harassing someone is the right thing to do, it's not. It's against the rules.

Fishing for reports is pointless. All a report does, is flag a match for review. 1 report = 9 reports.
Additionally, it is rare that a single game results in a ban, except under extreme circumstances. If you have had prior punishments and/or repeatedly shown poor behavior frequently, it will add up. In the end, every player is responsible for their own actions.

people get banned at different times...just cause you were reviewed doesn't mean he won't be. He probably got punishment too. If you jumped from 10 chat restriction to perma ban then you were extremely toxic in a LOT of games. So saying that makes it worse for your case not better. Learn how the system works before trying to justiify yourself.

All chat restrictions were reset with the new system, and tiers are also reduced every 3 months without punishment. You sure you haven't been punished more recently?
Or, something you said or did not included in these logs triggered a higher tier penalty due to the severity. For example, lobby chat is used to punish players but is not included in logs, this is from the email which may not have the full reform card that is provided upon logging into the client, or gameplay behavior caused the punishment but chat logs were provided due to people reporting you for multiple offenses.
