Players intentionally losing games in order to earn Hextech Chests.

Players can earn S ranks and Hextech rewards without winning the game. Often it is easier to earn an S rank by intentionally losing the game. I had a Warwick today in my ranked game. He blackmailed our team in order to get the jungle position (not his given position). For the entire game, he refused to cooperate and communicate with the team; when the game got to a pivotal point, all he did was run around the map farming jungle creeps, increasing his creep score and gold earned. Of course, due to his refusal to cooperate, we lost the game narrowly, but he still earned his S rank.

**Currently, earning Hextech rewards is an incentive for certain players to deliberately throw games. **

Uh, I think you are making a bit of a leap in logic there. Nothing indicates that he was just trying to get a chest.

can you earn an S with (lets assume) 0/0/0 stats?

That's unfortunate. However, if you make sure to report them, they'll get that hextech chest, then get a 14 day ban.

Riot needs to come up with a different way to earn chests though. I don't like playing a wide pool of champs or playing with friends.
