Since the beginning of my time playing league since 2014, I played a lot of co-op vs AI and I have played quite a few blind pick games as well. After a while of playing the game I adapted the support role as my role of choice (Thresh MY FAVOURITE) and after hundreds of co-op vs AI and a few normal games, I thought i might as well try ranked. Now going in, I didn't expect to be the ultra super mega pro and absolutely dominate the ranked system. I knew that it would take time and there would be time when I would lose, and I did lose quite a lot first time around, so I thought that maybe I was inexperienced and needed time to get used to ranked.

It was around this time I managed to get from unranked to silver and I was happy with the achievement. So after more practice I was pumped for the new season. I reckoned this would be a decent season for me to at least get to gold. After playing unranked for a while I finally got ranked in bronze V, and I had heard horror stories about player getting trapped in bronze forever or "ELO hell". I assumed it was just some mumbo jumbo and proceed to try an climb the ranked ladder. I have recently won my fair share of games, but my god, it doesnt compare to the amount of loses i have gotten.

I have tried and tried and tried and tried and tried. I looked up tips online about carrying as support and have applied them to the game, but no matter what I had done, I still lose. I consider myself as a good support player and a good player for that matter, and yet my teams always sucks. They rage at the smallest things and always play terribly, but for some reason the enemy team plays better than everyone.

I understand this is something I will have to get used to, but tired of people telling me, "But you still get win so what are you complaining about" or "Everyone has bad games it's just how it works". I understand these two things but I can't be mostly have bad games.

I don't know what to think or do about it. But I am open to advice.

And also you may need to level yourself down to their level.

I know that sounds weird but I once played with a plat player, and when he unfolded all his skill out I couldn't keep up with him and it would end disastrously with the enemy bot getting a double kill.

But when he would come down to my level we would be able to then stomp that very same bot lane.

He would go all in thinking if I knew exactly what to do when everything hits the fan, everything would be okay. But I would mess up. I would forget to use X skill on the enemy ADC at this exact time I would see it unfold myself and knew I screwed up.

I'm not telling you to be bad, but perhaps if they don't group up with you, group with them. They'll want to win sometime.

I was placed in Bronze V this season and got to silver V with a 73% winrate playing only support.

There is no such thing as ELO hell, I'm stuck in Silver right now because I tilt easily and I tunnel vision in team fights and forget to peel my carry.

If you peel for your adc every time without messing up in Bronze/Silver and ward you will climb no matter what. It's just not as easy as you think.

and as a support you have to rely on your teammates to play well, follow up, and position themselves

as a carry you can make plays without anybody helping you.

doesnt matter how good you support if your adc is shit

That's not true at all, you can play Janna and give your bad adc 3-4 extra chances not to feed.

or you could play ADC yourself and instead of a "non feeding" ADC, you can now play a carrying snowballing ADC that wins the game instead of just "not feeding"

If your mid is a feeder in this situation you can't prevent the feed as well though. If you see the feed coming support is a good role to climb out of low ELO with. Problem is most people don't see this kind of stuff but think they do and fail at support and think it's hard to climb with.

It's actually the easiest role to climb with in low ELO.

you can't prevent mid from feeding, but you can get fed yourself and kill everybody.

Midgame you can get ahead of who the feeder is and ward to where he is going to face check brush/ do feeder stuff.

If you're a god, of course you will get out of low ELO quicker as ADC snowballing every single game, but the people that are gods don't make threads like this.

Climbing as support is underrated I've climbed up to low Gold with most roles. I find it the easiest role because I don't have good mechanical skills related to CSing.

If you are that low on the ladder, you'd probably be better off playing champions who are better at carrying the game without relying on their team to follow up. While you may have researched how to carry as a support, that information would likely be based on higher-ELO players' experiences and it wouldn't be directly applicable to Bronze V players.

Rather than CC/utility supports like Thresh, Alistar, Soraka and Janna (who require your team follows up on your plays), I'd recommend you try some more damage-oriented supports. For example, I'd recommend trying Annie, Brand and Vel'koz support.

Those champions are essentially a second mid-laner when they do well, which will let you melt the enemy team when you get fed.

Also, I'd honestly recommend you stop purchasing Relic Shield on Thresh. Your CS is extremely low to the point that it appears you aren't even using the stacks correctly, so you are essentially wasting the item. If need be, just get Ancient Coin so you can get gold for minions dying near you.

Anyways, if you have a 22% win rate in Bronze V, I'd honestly say that's where you belong. It might suck to hear, but you have to accept that before you can really improve.

I've seen someone do Ahri support and use their charm as like a blitz pull.. xD

In one of my recent normal games (around Platinum/Diamond level), I've had an AD Varus support absolutely crush my team. He stomped bottom lane and took the tower early, then roamed between mid-lane and top-lane for about 10 minutes while our bottom lane couldn't manage to kill their ADC 2v1.

I've played games with a Katarina and a Talon support (both times as Varus ADC) where we just stomped the enemy bottom lane and dominated the game.

It might not be optimal, but you can make pretty much anything work in solo-queue if you know what you are doing.

yea Varus seems like an all around pretty good ADC with some pretty good peels.

Both of these ADCs are pretty strong and provide some peels. I should play them more...

Yeah, the Katarina support worked very well that game. We just kept shoving in the enemy team while poking them down with our Qs until they were low enough to all-in. Once we both hit 6, all I had to do was lock them down with my ultimate so Katarina could gib them. It was a really fun game.

I still wouldn't recommend people play Katarina support seriously, but it can be fun in normal games.

I haven't played Varus in quite a while though. He was my primarily ADC back in Season 5 (when you had to be able to play any role), so I had a good amount of experience playing him. Now that I'm switching my secondary from top lane to mid lane, I'll be able to play him again which is nice.

Varus mid is pretty good. :3 Just make sure you have enough AP if you go AD, unless you go AP on hit attack speed varus. xD (I've done it before, it worked the Blighted Quiver damage was soo stong! but I am bronze soo...)

Yea back in early season 4 I was a top main when learning to PVP. I slowly switched away from the role especially after juggernauts were released. I hate going up there too.

Top lane is terrifying. I hear there are trolls and shapeshifting hamsters and even bears with armor sometimes! There's even a purple dude who jumps on your face and then whacks you to death with a lamp post. I hate that guy.

I played Varus primarily as an ADC, so I'll probably stick to something resembling that build. I'm considering something along the lines of: item 3158 item 3004 item 3508 item 3094 item 3072 item 3036

I'm trying to get a good mixture of consistent damage (hence, crit and attack speed) and poke (hence, AD and CDR), but this gives me a good place to start.

Looks good but seems like it may lack luster damage. But that could be my inner bronze talking.

Are you recommending getting the manamune first?

It probably isn't optimal, but I've always played him more as an ADC/Caster hybrid than purely one or the other.

I'd probably recommend getting Manamune early simple due to how slowly you stack it with abilities, but one could also argue that you could just sit on Tear of the Goddess until you have Essence Reaver and/or Rapid Fire Cannon.

I really need to get back into practice and experiment with him, so it might not work as well as I hope it will.

As hellish as it would be I am sure I could carry myself out of bronze playing support rather easily. I would play more carry style supports though. I would also listen to Onastacia and maybe dumb down your plays a bit. If you go super ham and your team is not ready you will probably just die.

At the same time I do recall playing Morgana support once in a bronze game and I could not win the game. I cant remember what my score was but i was like 16-5-20 or something ridiculous. It was clear from the start my adc was worse than a bot, but the enemy bot lane was pretty bad as well. So I just ended up killing them. But my team kept grouping and even with me as support picking people off and killing a couple each fight we would still lose the team fights and eventually lost the game. So... just for sanity reasons I would definitely not try and support out of bronze but rather just play carry roles and have fun stomping some kids.

I got out of Bronze this season with a 73% winrate on support. I've climbed out of Bronze like 5 times easily on multiple roles. I find CSing well to be harder than supporting, but a lot of people feel you have to carry your way out of low ELO.

I feel that if you put wards in the right place and hit 1-2 peels a match you will climb out of Bronze as a support rather quickly.

I understand you enjoy Thresh greatly, but have you considered trying other supports? Zyra and Lux are both characters that can get away with building primarily damage items from the support position, and essentially carry without the early game income stream. If you have a friend to duo with, you could play cheesy kill lanes like Pantheon or Rammus.

There was a guy who played pre-rework Poppy as a support/assassin into challenger (Sheen > Sightstone > Trinity, BotRK, Ghostblade).

What I'm trying to tell you is that if you are being held back by bad teammates, you need to take a more proactive role in your games. If your carry isn't worth peeling for, you need to be the carry with whatever champion you are playing. By choosing more damage-oriented champions, you have more flexibility between going for support items or damage items.
