Permanently banned for banter between friends

Dash Space Lord·1/27/2016, 3:34:51 PM·133 votes·10,958 views

So about 2 weeks ago I was permanently banned because of an audit of toxic logs in my team chat (link to it at the end). Yes it is true that the logs on their own clearly appear to be toxic but I was speaking to my IRL friends in a 5 man normal lobby in team chat, I was in a Skype call with all of them but my microphone was not working properly so I could only hear them and responded to them via text in team chat. Their names were Mcgoogles, Lightning Saix, jasonpwn, and Upwaft75. All 4 of them have posted on this thread confirming the situation I described.

Lyte has said himself that he is ok with banter amongst friends: "we've talked a lot in the past about how we're OK with players bantering with their friends" which I will link

https://ask.fm/RiotLyte/answers/132485638338

EDIT: It was the enemy team that reported me, despite me speaking only in team chat to my friends

To get banned for this is fucking stupid lol

If everything you said is true, and you never spoke in /all, then why would enemy reports for verbal abuse even have merit?

I wish you luck in getting your account unbanned.

Well, as long as you're telling the truth, I hope they resolve it for you. In the future, your friends shouldn't treat the report system like a joke, though...

Players have been asking Riot to take language and toxicity more seriously for a long time. This is some of the only collateral that is even possible with system, so it would be nice to close that loophole. But it would also be nice to be able to trust your friends not to make Riot's job harder... lol. Good luck with things!

Hey this is McGoogles, one of the friends from that game. I'm just here to confirm that everything that Dash Space Lord said is true. We're all friends and we just like to give each other a hard time in normals whenever someone makes a mistake or something, but it's all in good fun. Unfortunately, Dash Space Lord didn't have access to a mic that night, so he had to respond to our voice chat with text. I can see how the logs might make it look like he was just randomly flaming a few times that game since nobody was responding to him in team chat, but I can assure you this was not the case.

I'm pretty sure what caused my friend to get reported was one of our other friends jokingly saying something along the lines of "9x Dash Space Lord" (as I'm sure we've all seen happen on more than one occasion in a joking manner). The enemy team took it seriously though and actually went through with the reports.

To my knowledge, none of our friends were offended or hurt by what Dash Space Lord said. I just don't want my friend to lose his account over a misunderstanding about some fun with friends.

@korillo I sincerely doubt you have friends you play with if you think no one sympathizes with you here.

I was part of the game that took place, and I can too confirm that the only thing that DSL did was leave for a few minutes because he had an important thing to take care of (which he said in SKYPE not in the game), so he left for a few. But during that few, we ended up losing because of course we needed him so we didn't have to 4v5, but it wasn't a big deal. As a joke, our friend said "report anivia," something that the guy says about me when I play with him in normals when I feed. HE always jokes, he's from oce, so he doesn't quite understand that people in NA take that stuff seriously (/meme).

Really though, as a reformed summoner myself, and as this guys good friend, I can say wholeheartedly that the actions this guy had to take were not worth the perma ban. The chat logs are hilarious given context, but without context actually look quite horrible. Of course the enemy team did not know we were premade, so they followed through with what our friend said.

All in all, he doesn't deserve to be perma banned for this, especially since after the ban he received prior to this one he took very seriously and has become much better in the chat.

It's me, Lightning Saix (the real one) Just posting to confirm that we were giving Dash Space Lord shit in a Skype call all game and he was replying using the in-game chat as he didn't have a mic, it was all in good fun until people on the enemy team reported him for whatever reason. All of what he was saying was in team chat to our 5 man premade so it wasn't like the enemy team could see any of it. No one was offended by anything that was said. Thanks if anyone reading this thread has the power to sort it out for us, I miss playing with my best friend Philippe.

First off you did not get banned for one game. So lets drop that myth first. They may of used that game as an example, but that was not the only time you acted that way

2nd why the fuck were you so dumb to put questionable writing in a place that you know has consequences? You are practically begging to be in trouble, banter or not.

3rd Your friends do not really seem like your friends since they costed you your account. They may not of reported you personally, but they got other to do so. Joke or not considering the consequences not a friend

jasonpwn1/27/2016, 8:19:09 PM10 votes

For those who think the was offensive to them, I am not sure that it is your place to take offense to the remarks. This game did not include you, nor was it directed to you or near your proximity. You are simply looking at a closed chat among friends, NOT taken to all chat, and the skype call was happening during the game. Seriously, it's not your business to critique the team chat because as it is among friends that the chat was happening, as long as the friends in the game were not taking it offensively (which they weren't), then it's not your right to take it offensively. The enemy team didn't receive any banter, at all, whatsoever. Your job is to see that this was an unfortunate mistake that occurred as a result of miscommunication from our friend group to the enemy team.

Sadly, Riot doesn't punish people for clearly false reports and innocent players suffer by the time said player's report weighting is lowered. And it might not even be lowered if they only make blatantly false reports rarely. Then, we have stuff like this happen. Personally, I don't report for what I can't see myself.

ModPrandine1/27/2016, 7:10:59 PM4 votes

For this one case, from what I saw in it this is what got you punished:

call me froggen michael or im afk do it ez DO IT U %%%GOT

Regardless if you were with friends there is no need to say stuff like this. Also, in order to get permabanned you have to have a history of being punished and refusing to change your behavior despite those punishments. You also weren't punished for just this one game alone, you were punished for consistent negative behavior across multiple games, and since all permabans are handed out by a Riot employee, they had to go through your entire account history and see that you had no interest in reforming for them to decide that a permaban was the right punishment for you. I know that you admit to being punished in the past in the OP, but it takes 3 months of not getting punished in order to drop down 1 punishment tier, and unfortunately for you this didn't happen.

A shame that this happened but you had multiple chances to reform and change your behavior for the better and you chose not to do so. If you would still like to dispute your ban then please feel free to open up a support ticket with Riot. I wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors.

If you were in skype why did you need to use the chat in game? Things just aren't adding up. But if someone reports you and the chat shows you being toxic then it's clear you should be ban. You can banter between friends, but if someone reports you that's all on you. Doesn't matter the excuse because the chatlogs will show you being toxic!

Maratsune1/28/2016, 4:22:34 AM4 votes

"Your behavior means you are no longer welcome in the League of Legends community." Ooh. Shivers. That's some cold shit yo. Anywho, talking with friends or not, based on that chat log alone I can't see why you were permabanned. Doesn't even seem that bad; I've seen worse by people I wasn't friends with. I reported them and nothing.

slippykitten1/28/2016, 7:05:09 PM3 votes

Clearly the people reviewing these logs are intensely sensitive homosexuals. They so clearly lose any sense of reason when they see even the slightest notion of homophobic language. Get off your gay soapbox riot, stop trying to change the world, and let friends actually have fun when they are playing a friggin video game.

TeemoJenkins1/27/2016, 4:05:03 PM3 votes

Not very good friends, since they reported you.

Riot permanently banned me also for next to nothing. Said to a Fiora "If you hate Gayren then why not ban him stupid.". Apparently saying "Gayren"(Garen) is a permaban offence. I think it's just creative("Gayren") and me calling the Fiora player "stupid" and a few other things was a lot less than what the summoner was saying in chat to both teams as they flamed. I'll tell you one thing though, if riot wants to be this soft about handing out bans don't spend another dollar on this game. Seems a bit fishy because they know people have multiple accounts. Almost like they just want you to spend more money on your other accounts once you buy everything for your main by handing out these weak excuses for Permanently banning accounts. Has the idiot who banned me even seen the last episode of ALL/CHAT when they had Garen dressed in the Star Guardian lux skin. They pretty much meant to make Garen look gay. BE SAFE WITH YOUR MONEY AND PLAYING RIOT GAMES, IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOUR ACCOUNT NEXT OVER A FEW WORDS TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT!

Nothing against you, just curious cause Rito hates that "f....t" word and hate speech, were you calling your friends that in team chat?
