I guess I don't know how playing with a duo affects your MMR, but surely it changes with you two together versus when you play alone. I know that's different for ranked, but that shouldn't be too extreme, since there are restrictions related to who can play with whom.
Hmmm my iron friend does not experience that when i carry him through a bunch of iron/bronze games. He usually tells me he kills it solo, and then feeds when i play with him because I bring tougher opponents. If i managed to carry him all the way to silver (im not good enough for that) he would probably get stomped when he solos because hes not silver. Thats intended. Its completely natural that that would happen. Idk what you want. Instant demotions when your friend leaves? Its your fault for playing ranked with him and letting him carry you. Just play normals with him if thats your problem, then you wont be too high ranked when you solo. Or play flex with him and solo/duo by yourself.
