I had to disconnect from one game because I could not input anything. (Thanks for the working game Riot!) Now I have 5 games of low priority, and it's all 20 minutes. I haven't disconnected from a game since November and before then it had been nearly a year. What the fuck is your system's algorithm for punishing leavers Riot, because it is clearly not working.
So people don't do it.
It it doesn't give out punishments from one occurance
you don't just get 20 minutes right off the bat for the first leave. Like AvantelWings said, it's there so people don't do it. There's nothing worse then waiting through champ select to have someone dodge. Especially in high elos where getting in a game can take 20+ minutes in itself.
It's not harsh. It's equal across the board for everyone.
Have to AFK to answer the phone one time? Five minute wait. Have to leave because your kid got their head stuck in the stairwell? Five minute wait. Wife burned her hand and you left the computer to help her? Five minute wait. Internet connection fails and you're disconnected from the game? Five minute wait.
One time won't hurt you. Five times and you may want to secure your kids, fix your internet, etc.
