Hey Thórén,

Thank you for contacting us regarding this issue. It looks like you have been sent the wrong chat log, and we're really sorry for this misunderstanding.

The chat logs that were tied to your reform card have been toxic enough, however it was the pre-game part of another game's chat that triggered this ban. I will paste it here for reference:

I was playing Nasus & playing with friends too. These words were directed to them, They're calling this homophobic. ALSO, the words that are censored all are fa**ot. Any thoughts ?

That's a homophobic word, yes. "That gay shit" is derogatory. This sort of extreme behavior -- especially the use of the homophobic slur -- tends to earn a 14-day ban on the first offense.

Whether this is to your friends or not doesn't matter if other players are exposed to it. Use Discord or the /whisper command to talk to your friends if this is how you want to behave.

That is homophobic (repeated use of gay as an insult) and when combined with whatever that censored word is it does warrant a 14 day ban. You won't be banned if nobody was bothered by it, so either one of your friends joke-reported you or you were playing with a non-premade who didn't want to deal with that. Try to steer away from that stuff, even with friends, and you shouldn't be in danger of a perma. You have to be very cautious, though, because the report system is more sensitive after you've received a 14-day.

It is absolutely an insult, because you are using a word that has a decades-old history of being used to express hatred against homosexuals. It's the equivalent of "black people are [slur here]", and it neither funny nor ironic.

I say fucked up shit to my friends all the time... in private. League is public. Unless you were playing in a full premade with friends, and you're sure the friends weren't the ones upset and reporting you, then you crossed a line and were suitably punished for doing so.

I wish people weren’t such pussies. IF you don’t like what’s being said maybe u could hit the mute button or better yet not read it don’t look at the screen. But riot gives people unnecessary power to do some dumb shit like this. This is why it makes no sense why a machine has to do these things they shouldn’t even exist . Just add a mute button. The only reports that should be there should just be for people actually ruining the game like going afk or feeding on purpose

Hypothetical situation:

I'm queued solo. Somebody like OP decides to go on a randomly homophobic tirade as demonstrated here. One of my teammates takes understandable offense to this and speaks up. OP and other teammate get into an argument about the nature of homophobia, which dominates the team chat for the majority of the game. Team morale tanks, calls for reports are rampant, and teamwork goes down the drain as people act out through methods such as soft-inting, AFK farming, deliberately avoiding team fights, stealing farm, etc. If not full-on inting, of course.

At what point can I use the mute function to escape this situation?

Really wish people would stop saying "Homophobic" just say prejudice dang it, not saying he's right for the behavior just putting that out there.

Both are accurate. In this case I use one specifically because I have encountered people who may not be aware of the specifically homophobic meaning of that word vs. the general use of it as a pejorative.

I'm the kinda person who believes that "Homophobic" is a made up word, since it didn't exist before people made it like 3-4 years ago, correct me if it was longer than that

The term itself originated around the 1960s, but it's just a word for negative feelings associated with homosexuality, which have been present for about two thousand years at least.

Just because a name has been recently applied to relate a series of connective ideas doesn't make it a word we should avoid using, especially when it helps clarify the sort of prejudice behind the terminology for those who may not be aware of the pejorative associations.

Those are just specific types of prejudice. That's all. It's the difference between driving a car, or driving a Toyota Camry. The former is good when you're dealing with general statements, the latter is good when you need specifics. :)
