So Riot, i have to ask? why are snowflakes feelings more important than mine??

---------------------------!!!WARNING this WILL hurt someones feelings somewhere!!!----------------------------------- I would like to start off by placing a warning on here, because I KNOW, I KNOW! I'm going to offend someone... and how do i know this? because absolutely everything that has ever been said by anyone at any point in history, will and can or has offended someone else. Especially if i said it....

And why is that? oh, I know, maybe it has something to do with the all the millennial snowflakes running around needing their safe places, feeling like the world owes them something twice over, for no other reason than "because it hurts their little feelings if you don't" ...

so Riot, i have to ask? why are Snowflakes feelings more important than mine??

I can say in a game "fiddle, you suck." and its not a punishable offense... frowned upon yes.. punishable? no. its just banter... However, if i add just 1 little word it it and make it "fiddle, you F***G suck.".... now i can be punished?? because its abusive??? what?! they are the same thing! literally they say the exact same thing!.... but because i decided to use a word to better help boost the emotional connection of the sentence and emphasize the feelings i had in that sentence... for example... lets say you are at a concert, and you are front row, and its amazing! everyone is screaming and yelling! so you join in and shout?? more than half of you, the phrase "FK YEAH!" came to mind. the other half of you thought of saying it but stuck with just a plane old "yeah!" cause your too much of a snowflake and such is word as heinous as that offends you....

So Riot? what am i supposed to do?... I've been speaking for lets say 27 of my 28 years on this planet... I've been speaking full sentences for lets say 25 of those years... and I've been using "curse words" or "foul language" (I will now refer to these words as emphasis words) for lets say 20 of those years.... hmm i started early? meh maybe kinda, depends on who u ask... some people use P**s to explain going number 1... where some others use the term pee... its all a matter of opinion... i don't use the words in a "abusive" manner (mostly... lol) but normally i just use it as an emphasis word.

And, I cant really help it... its part of who I am now... through all my trials and tribulations, me using emphasis words has never been an issue until recently... what makes it foul? who decides this? and why can you restrict what words i can and can not say?

you say its because of minors playing the game? well, why is it my responsibility to watch out for someone's kids? i got 4 of my own, i don't need to worry about theirs, and isn't there a chat filter for a reason? hmm maybe u should make a parental lock on a child's account, and not punish people for speaking...

now now now... i know there is a difference between emphasizing a word, and straight up verbal assault... you can verbally assault someone without using my emphasis words lol...

em·pha·size verb:

  1. give special importance or prominence to (something) in speaking or writing: "he jabbed a finger into the tabletop to emphasize his point" synonyms: stress, underline, highlight, focus attention on, point up, ...

The rules boil down to "don't be a dick". They're pretty lenient, to the point where the rules are really closer to "don't be a rampaging, pulsating, oozing pus wound of a dick".

We're roughly the same age. I'm not afraid to curse in a casual conversation, or even in League. But crossing lines to becoming needlessly antagonistic towards random strangers doesn't work for me at work or in public, and League doesn't need to be different. Just because you're on the other side of a computer from the folks you play with doesn't give you the right to be a terrible person.

Complains about millennials, is a millennial.

Because there is a big difference between:

  • what is offensive based on the personal emotions of a singular human being...

  • ...and what is offensive based on social agreement by a community.

Well this should be fun to break down......

First thing first. You are literally a snowflake that you are railing against. A snowflake is someone who's feelings get hurt because they do no get their way or because others don't agree with them. You are a prime example of a snowflake.

Now to break down your misconceptions.

I can say in a game "fiddle, you suck." and its not a punishable offense

This is punishable. While it may not trigger on the first or even the 10th game a consistent negative attitude insulting other players can and will result in a punishment.

However, if i add just 1 little word it it and make it "fiddle, you F*G suck.".... now i can be punished?? because its abusive???

Riot is emphasizing your punishment with a escalation because you are "emphasizing" the attack on other players by using a ZERO tolerance attack.

lets say you are at a concert, and you are front row, and its amazing! everyone is screaming and yelling! so you join in and shout?? more than half of you, the phrase "F**K YEAH!" came to mind. the other half of you thought of saying it but stuck with just a plane old "yeah!" cause your too much of a snowflake and such is word as heinous as that offends you....

No one will every get punished in league by typing "FUCK YEAH" as this is not a attack or harassment of another player. However saying "FUCK YOU" is a attack/harassment of another player.

So Riot? what am i supposed to do?...

You can fucking cuss as much as you damn well fucking please as long as it is not directed at another player. Do not. REPEAT. DO NOT direct your foul language at another player and you will never be punished. This is not hard to understand. It is pretty brain dead.

And, I cant really help it... its part of who I am now... through all my trials and tribulations, me using emphasis words has never been an issue until recently... what makes it foul? who decides this? and why can you restrict what words i can and can not say?

You can cuss. You just can't cuss at someone one. Also the community as a whole decided this. Riot approves the communities choices in this matter with the IFS(instant feedback system) which learns from the players based on reports and behavior with a learning algorithm. They can adjust this at any time to be harsher(hate speech/homophobic slurs) or more lenient(report x) bother are valid reports but one will get you punished in a almost instant manner where the other requires a history of behavior. However the community is who decided that it is a negative behavior.

you say its because of minors playing the game? well, why is it my responsibility to watch out for someone's kids? i got 4 of my own, i don't need to worry about theirs, and isn't there a chat filter for a reason? hmm maybe u should make a parental lock on a child's account, and not punish people for speaking...

Actually it has very little to do with minors playing the game and more to do with the community as a whole not wanting to player with asshats who can't control themselves.

The bottom line is if you can't learn to control your behavior this community and riot do not want you playing this game.

If you think that you cannot control your self then you should leave this game and community and know that you are not welcome here until you do learn to control yourself.

You assume you are some bastion of free expression against the millennial snowflakes.

There are two ways to get a chat punishment, hate speech, or flaming. As for hate speech and offending, that's a subject older and more complex than this generation.

As for flaming, it's not that anyone is being offended. It's that League is an intense game that lasts 20-40 minutes. And when you have someone on the team who is pointing out every mistake, it is hard to play. Those people aren't offensive, they are yappy little dogs. And not even cute ones like a Pomeranian.

This OP is just basically Tomi Lahren who decided to play League of Legends.

{quoted} However, if i add just 1 little word it it [sic] and make it "fiddle, you F*****G suck";.... now i can be punished?? because its abusive???

Well, in this example, I would ban you first for **MISuse ** of a slur, then attempted use of a slur, but that might tangential to your original argument...

Funny how you put the warning AFTER the offensive bit

Because you marginalize the thoughts and opinions of others while they treat others with respect? Just a thought.

First, my comment about my feelings was meant as a joke/sarcasm... Second, a millennial in "general" is anyone between the ages of 14-33 who displays a certain personality trait which is commonly known as being self absorbed. Also, in part to the millennial thing, referring to someone as a snowflake is directly in reference to their emotional instability and inability to take/receive criticism. Also, I would like to point out that in reference to the "fiddle, you suck" thing, that was just an example. I don't usually call people out in that manner. However, I will admit that i have on several occasions when i was just absolutely tilted and dishing back whats being thrown at me gone to such lengths. And, last but not least. in most cases with me 85% of the time I would say, don't directly "curse" at some one, as explained in my initial post, i use them as emphasis words. I rarely use them as what was referred to in the comments as an "attack".

my opinio follows:

"you suck" is a statement directed at the other guy. "you fucking suck" also includes a statement about the speaker's emotional duress.

As an insult, both are near equivalents. "You fucking suck" is a weaker statement in general because it includes an allusion to the speaker's weakness.

As "bannable offenses" they are equivalent and I can see both reasonable situations to report and to not report these statements. Depending on whether the context makes me feel the speaker is venting out some frustration or engaging in playful banter, or alternatively the speaker is flaming/harassing or engaging in an attempt to tilt an opponent through constant verbal harass.

as for other cuss words: there is no single cuss word that, in isolation, will cause me to report.

That's just my policy.

I'm offended you thought I'd be offended by this... DAMNIT! I played right into his trap!

Colgate Gator5/30/2017, 6:06:26 PM1 votes

By asking that, aren't you considering yourself a snowflake?

You're arguing that you're bantering and you shouldn't be punished because other people's feelings got hurt, but all I'm seeing is that you're asking to be treated over them.

Fucking snowflakes, man.

they are the same thing! literally they say the exact same thing!

You got this part right, which is why you'll get punished with or without the swear word.
