Is This Really "Extremely Inflammatory and Offensive"?
The Link shows it all - I just received a permanent ban for the above communication. I never quite understood how Riot conducts its punishment system. There are plenty of players who will say racial slurs or more offensive words and get away because they intentionally misspell the words and avoid the autochecker. Then there is me, who only said "pathetic" and received a permanent ban for "extremely offensive and inflammatory behavior." I can see that I've said some other things, but honestly, I personally feel that Riot hasn't actively drawn a clear line between what is worthy of a chat restriction and what is worthy of a PERMANENT BAN.
I find it frustrating that Riot acts like the school administrators who will punish both parties in a school fight without considering who was the aggressor or what happened. There is no need for context at all. What is worse is that I constantly run into toxic people who will tell me negative things like "stop missing your skillshot," as if I WANT TO miss them in the first place. I can take constructive criticism like "have you considered buying thornmail for the Fiora?" But telling me comments like play better or don't miss your skill shots is just downright offensive. I rarely receive any indication that Riot is actively pursuing these comments and punishing them, and the result is that I can't trust Riot's system.
I don't care about this account, and I know Riot won't undo the ban anyways. I do think that Riot should promote more transparency into the system so that we don't have to FACE unwarranted negativity in the first place. After all, if Riot can issue a permanent ban based on ONE GAME about 4 minutes after the game had ended, I think Riot could actively pursue chat restrictions against negative people more quickly, and notify people who were affected to improve their faith in the system.
Riot, I understand that you want to make the game PG; but if you really want to, you should make the system more interactive (providing you feedback on which player was banned for what you reported and when the ban occurred) so that the players can actually see that their reports are doing something. As it is, the only notifications we get are if OUR REPORTS are the ones to trigger the punishment, and that's rarely the case.
Also, it's so demeaning to be told that I should simply mute the offending player and move on. If someone on the street yells profanities at you or tells you to drive better, you can move away from that situation but it won't negate the event at all. For some people like me, those statements linger and ruin a good day.
