Improving the Dodge Mechanicism

So I originally wrote this to Riot in a support ticket, because I am tired of this really counter intuitive system in League, that being the dodge mechanic. I'll copy and paste my original ticket that I sent to Riot. Hopefully we can further this discussion into some real change!

"Hi, I am contacting you guys today with an issue I have been having lately in game and a possible idea for a fix. During champ select you get to know a lot about your teammates; how they react to you saying hello, which champions they prefer, and how friendly and sportsman-like they are. It is this last one that I wish to focus in on. You see I am writing this after receiving a 30 minute dodge penalty for dodging a ranked match.

Now in general dodging because you didn't get your role or your champion was banned isn't the greatest moral practice but is a reality and for that I believe the cool downs are appropriate. For instance I dodged my first game today because all my adc's had been banned and since I do not own many champions I could not fulfill my role and therefore dodged. However, my second dodge is where I am having an issue. From the moment I joined my game things did not look good. One guy wrote out which champions we should not ban to which another player patronized him/her for asking us to do that and then proceeded to declare that they (the one who patronized the other player) would feed top and play nunu. To no avail did they decide to lock-in nunu top and proclaim their intention to feed and how we should "prepare for the loss". Well I had no intention of playing with a toxic player, nor did my teammates, so I dodged.

So I beg the question, is it fair that I am the one penalized for the misbehavior of another? Not only did I receive the half an hour cool-down, I was also brought down to -5 lp from 5 lp. You may be wondering by now "well what's your point, why are you writing to us about this?" Well I can assure you that there is indeed a point. Similar to the other systems you have in place to catch toxicity in game, I believe you should implement these same systems to the champ select screen. This is not the first time I have had this issue, and every time after it happens I come out feeling crappy about League Of Legends and don't want to play anymore. My friends and I discussed this before I wrote this and they all agreed, citing that they too have had very similar situations and have come out as the victims instead of the saved. I understand I am only a single player, but I really believe this idea would greatly benefit the health of the community and the game. By lessening the impact of toxic and negative players the League community can grow and prosper and ultimately, play more League Of Legends. Thank you for your time, and good luck to you out on the rift. :)"

You might want to break this into paragraphs. I thought you were talking about dodge as a champion mechanic, not about dodging queues.

Hm i would have dodged too, but i don't really see the issue about "dodge mechanism", it has nothing to do with dodge mechanisms. I think that dodging is a really important part of the game that can help you climb a lot if you do it correctly. Here are some numbers [src]

But what are you proposing ?

  • You can always report those behavior with a support ticket, I'm pretty sure they keep the logs even if the game was dodged. ( because chat logs are only analyzed if you report someone, only LeaverBuster works without reports and so far it has nothing to do with chat logs. )

I mean I'd like to see a way to report those people directly in the launcher, but other than that i don't see how it makes sense with your title "improving the dodge mechanism", i think the dodge mechanism is great as it is, you can't allow people to dodge more without loosing RP it'll be abused a lot, you also can't refund RP if someone was trolling because duos would abuse it.

A lot of people would tell you to play it ! I'm not one of those i think dodging was the good choice. The LP loss isn't that big of a deal ( depending how much LP you loose by defeats (cf links before) in some cases the best choice would be to play it even in that situation ! ). And you can use the 30 minutes to play a game on a smurf, watch a video or something like that.
