Punished for Leaving with High Ping

Recently, I went into a game. Everything was fine until my ping spiked to around 1400. I thought it would go down. It didn't. I "pinged my ping" so my teammates would know why I'm playing so terribly. Tried leaving then coming back. The ping stayed the same. It wouldn't go down, even after about 10 minutes, so I apologized to my team and left. The next time I logged on I got a message saying that I've been put on lower queue priority for "disconnecting or AFK behaviors."

Come on, Riot. Is there no way to sense my ping or something when I leave a game to prevent this from happening? It's not like I do this all the time. I NEVER leave a game accept under extraneous conditions (like this), and the ONE time I DO leave (for good reason, remember) I get punished for it.

I'm all for punishing people who do this all the time, but (1) I don't, (2) it was ONE TIME, and (3) I left for what I'm pretty sure was a pretty good reason.

A player at 1k ping is still more valuable than not having that player at all. It sounds like you did everything right, up until abandoning your team because you didn't want to suffer through high ping for a few more minutes.

If you alt and left click your ping, it displays it to your team.

I once played a gp game in which my internet sucked and it was nearly impossible to move so i just sat at spawn and looked for possible opportunities to ult try to do something like that, or if it is still playable play even if you feed at least you wont get reported

Well what should your teammates say? Your hard/software and connection is your issue. They had to play a 4 v 5. So yeah you Leave you get punished No excusey

While it may seem harsh to be punished for leaving only once, the effect of your ping and leaving on your teammates has to be taken into consideration as well. By your own admission, you spent part of the game playing poorly due to your ping, and then you left. Both of which, while due to something that was out of your control, made the game very difficult for your teammates. You did not mention whether this was a ranked match or not, but if it was you kinda punished those four players simply because they had the misfortune of queueing up with someone with an unstable ping. And if it was already going poorly, as seems implied by you saying you played terribly, then it could have cost them all LP or promotional series.

I'm sure it's very frustrating, given the unstable ping is out of your control, but it's a very minor punishment. The first LPQ is only for 5 games, if I recall correctly, so it shouldn't take long atall to be done with it.

You said you never do this unless extraneous conditions... so is this the ONE time you've ever had extraneous conditions? Idk why you'd say that then. If you've never left a game before you would just say this is the only time you've ever left. You even say like three times that you've only left ONE time. I simply don't believe you, sorry. I've lagged out a couple times the past year and I don't get leaverbuster yet. So ya you're exaggerating clearly, and no, there is no way to sense a legitimate lag out afk. People can disconnect on purpose, so they just have a blanket rule to cover any abuse. Sucks though man, I believe you that you don't leave on purpose, but understand it has to be this way or AFK's would be much more prevelant.

Want to leave a game without punishment?

Start downloading a game on Steam before disconnecting.

Thanks for the feedback you guys. I've realized I probably should have manned up and suffered through it.

Still, I can't help but think that other people would have done the same thing, and it seems odd that I got punished for it all when I haven't left like that since... Well, I honestly can't remember when it was I last left a game like that.
