What is Riot's banning logic?

Hello there fellow summoners,

I'm banned for 10 more days. The game that caused me to get banned was when my Ekko Jungler fed my opposing laner...Darius ( I was Nasus and Darius usually wrecks me even under tower) . I pinged retreat because I had no mana and Darius had too high of health to be taken down. Needless to say, Ekko didn't listen and died to Darius giving him first blood, exp, and a huge lead over me with blue buff which allowed him to harass me to no end for a few minutes. I got tower dove when he hit level 6 way before I was able to. I foresaw how Darius was just going to kill me in lane even if i tried to stack Q. Therefore, I just left lane and afk farmed the jungle until our inevitable loss. I didn't feed Darius further, after his 2 kills in under 8 minutes. He went around killing my team mates in every lane. Another factor that made me not want to try was that I had a Gangplank as a support in bottom lane. I've been told that off meta picks aren't a bannable offense in a previous complaint I had with being banned for 15 days when the person responsible for snowballing Darius wasn't me. This brings me to the main point of this particular post. A friend of mine also got a 15 day ban from the game because he picked "Veigar" to jungle with. His team lost so they all reported him for playing a off meta jungler. He wasn't toxic in his chat. I don't understand how Riot's system just bans people based off the number of reports and not the reasoning. To me, that's just like online bullying and everyone just attacking one person because things didn't go their way like a bunch of little babies looking for someone to blame and take their frustrations out on.

Riot Tantram wrote the code for the report system, it doesn't count number of votes.

To roughly quote:

"The code is like this - If reports > 0 then ...."

So one report counts the same as 9 as far as the punishment system is concerned. Additionally, false reports are thrown out, so anything your friend was punished for was their behavior in-game, not because of their off-meta pick.

lastly, it doesn't matter what your teammates do. If you react by ragequitting or by flaming, Riot considers it punishable. They hold everyone accountable for their behavior, including your teammates. So it's not worthwhile or helpful to retaliate.

First, you were banned by what looks to be a fair enough reason.

What you did here basically is equal to giving up. Instead of just playing the match out and trying your best, you died and than just afk'd. You let Darius get a much bigger lead than he may have otherwise received by just afk farming in the jungle and letting him run around. This IS ban-able and that is why you were banned or at least a good part of it. I reported someone for the same thing and he was also banned likewise. Not, to get a ban like this as well, you would have had to do this more than once. So no, you are not fooling anyone.

The second point,

A friend of mine also got a 15 day ban from the game because he picked "Veigar" to jungle with. His team lost so they all reported him for playing a off meta jungler. He wasn't toxic in his chat.

I will take your word for him not being toxic in chat. Now if he was legitimately trying and just playing someone off meta, fine, that's not a problem. If he was reported massively, which takes multiple games in a row for a trolling/int'ing ban than he may simply submit a ticket to Player Support and he can dispute it there. Though it is likely he was banned for other reasons, not that he picked off-meta.

Finally,

I don't understand how Riot's system just bans people based off the number of reports and not the reasoning. To me, that's just like online bullying and everyone just attacking one person because things didn't go their way like a bunch of little babies looking for someone to blame and take their frustrations out on.

It isn't based off the number of reports. It's based on the information they have (what people say in the report, what the player said in chat, etc.) Flaws reports are merely thrown out. Since there is a safeguard against gang reporting, it isn't possible for this "online bullying" to happen. Also, everyone can report who they like. If the reasons are valid, they will get punished. If not, they won't. Simple as that.

Because too many reports get filed a day for every game to get looked at and then 2 week bans and permabans are officially reviewed by Riot themselves.
