Punished for old games due to abuse of the report function

TL;dr: I was mildly toxic in a few games last week. I took a week break to cool down. I was extra positive tonight, but my raging teammates decided they didn't like my poor gameplay and chose to abuse the report function. My chat logs show only the previous weeks games.

I was mildly toxic last week. I had a few games of aggressive chat and mild negativity, but it wasn't enough to be punished because I didn't receive enough reports. I took a break, cooled down, and came back tonight. I had a few rough games in which my gameplay was terrible, but my attitude and chat was positive and friendly. Due to my terrible gameplay, my teammates reported me and I received a chat restriction. I was confused as to why I would be chat restricted considering I hadn't said anything even remotely negative, even while my allies were flaming me and going AFK, so I relogged and read my chat log. All 3 games in the log were from the previous week where I got a little heated.

I was lucky enough not to be chat restricted in the first place because I was only rude in a few games, so I took some time off to avoid punishment and cool down. I really don't think it's fair to put another negative mark onto my account because salty and angry players chose to report me out of spite. It makes it even worse that in those games, I kept the atmosphere positive despite being behind, but my AFK, rude, and flaming teammates got me punished.

It's not like your report record goes away after a week of not playing. A review was not triggered in your games last week because there weren't enough reports, but you received enough today; the system was not wrong in punishing you because it still found sufficiently consistent toxicity. The fact that a "non-toxic" game triggered the review doesn't change that.

Everybody in every game could report you, but if you aren't being negative then the reports won't do anything no matter how many times a review is triggered or how often you play. If you're having trouble with other players in chat, just mute them to minimize the damage they do (and report them if you feel necessary).

I was harassing literal trolls. Players who ruined my games by inting, giving up, or going AFK. Today I get raged at and AFK'd on because I'm playing poorly. However I am the one who got chat restricted despite taking a break and coming back extremely positive. It just demotivates me to stay positive when I was already struggling in the first place. Now I have limited messages so I can't even be super positive. Just feels like a slap in the face.

I have a real issue with being punished for being rude in chat, especially when I did it so sparingly, while my teammates are getting away with trolling and giving up in games.

It's good that you have limited chat and it feels like a slap in the face; you have shown that you are likely to misuse the chat instead of being "super positive", and it is a punishment so it shouldn't feel good.

Think about the consequences of your negative behavior before you send that message. Not only do you risk your own account, but you are probably making the situation worse; do you really think the troll cares what you think? More likely he wants to see you get upset. The only way to win is to ignore and report them.

No, the only way to win is to eliminate trolls from this game and stop punishing people who get upset by them. When it happens multiple games in one day, that is too much. It really is unfortunate this is the stance the community has taken. Words can be muted and removed, actions are irreversible.

And it isn't good that while I am trying to curb my history of toxicity, I get set back by these slaps in the face. It really is demotivating.

Edit: And the system is becoming increasingly more strict, punishing you for cursing the game, or cursing yourself in chat, or even punishing you for trigger words such as ff in "wanna ff?"

That is what the reports are for. Thank you for agreeing with me, even though you said "No".

Even though you are being toxic in response to another toxic player, you are still toxic and a problem to the other players. "He started it" is childish reasoning that does not fly here; you are responsible for your own actions. When you resort to doing the same thing they are, you're just another part of the problem.

I'm unsure what you're getting at here. Are you saying that the mute function is an excuse for negative chat behavior?

Yes, reports eliminate trolls, also known as players who ruin the state of the game through their actions. Someone who is flaming chat while dead, for example, is not disrupting the state of the game. And yes, the solution to this is to mute them, just as it has been for years in online video games.

I'm not using the "he started it" argument, but when a game is 15 minutes in with an AFK or troll and a large deficit and I know I will have to gain back the LP, I do get angry. And when said AFK or troll player begins harassing people in chat in ways that circumvent the ban system while his teammates are trying to motivate him to come back, I will include some profanity and aggression in my chat.

I've bolded a section of your argument where you state you resort to you actions due to the instigations of another player. The "He started it" portion Nami was talking about.

I do not resort to actions. I get angry in chat during downtime, such as when the game is too far gone and someone is AFK, or when I am dead. I do not troll games, there is literally nothing worse.

Actions in my previous comments refers to the act of you flaming people. You resorted to flaming people because they instigated you. That is a "he started it" scenario, especially since there is this belief that your retorts to their behavior should be excused of their negative nature.
