Hi everyone. I wanted to talk to you about players that are ruining our League of Legends with hurtful words and unsportsmanlike conduct. Now I haven't played LoL for a long time, but I know that in any game be it real or virtual nobody likes a jerk who thinks they can say whatever they want or do whatever they think they can do that hurts people mentally or physically. That's just being a bully, and no one likes those. Bullies are selfish, have no social skills, and blame all their problems on good people. This abuse can be equivalent to actual pain (as web MD will say). Some may harm themselves because of this harassment by cutting, burning, or beating themselves. People commit suicide because of bullying. You wouldn't kill a child, would you? Or a parent or a grandparent? Cyber bullying does that, and I would never want that blood on my hands. No one wants that. A pal of mine said when I talked to him about this issue "oh well no parent or grandparent ever plays LoL." Do you know that for sure? I sure don't and unless you're psychic you don't know either.
We play games to have fun, make friends, and share in the joy of being a part of a community not to be tortured by abusive players that have no sense of what is right or wrong. One of the reasons I put Braum on the top of this page is because he embodies friendship and peace. He protects, works, and cares for others. That is what we should strive for every day. I know Riot Games has been trying to solve this problem with reporting and banning, but that can only do so much.Some people may say that those "weak" people need to "suck it up and deal with it" or "Get tough skin." Not everyone has the same mental strength as the person next to them. Some may say "just mute them or stop playing the game." Well, that just means the bullies have won. You have given up. That doesn't seem fair that they can do that and all you can do is run away with your tail tucked between your legs. And what about before the game starts? Can't report players during that moment and once they say what they want to say they can disband the game and you won't hear about them while they continue doing the same thing to someone else.We need to come together as a community and figure out a way to keep offensive players out. I'm sure if the community puts their heads together we can figure something out. If you have any ideas of your own, please comment or post about this issue. Theoretically, rito has access to all of the "bullies" personal information not excluding their names, IP addresses, and (if they dig hard enough) their real life addresses. Thus, couldn't they just send all the info to the cops and get them arrested if they really wanted to solve the problem?

Yeah, I'm just thinking they could do it on a wider scale. Literally everyone has had someone else tell them to "kill themselves" in a game, if rito acted on even half of those the game would probably be clear of stuff like this in a matter of days.

Ya but telling someone to kill themselves is only against the rules in this game. In america, I'm pretty sure freedom of speech protects you from punishment because of telling someone to kill themselves. It's not a death threat and if it's not determined to be hate speech, it's perfectly legal. So Riot can't do that.

Freedom of speech only actually works if the speech in question doesn't infringe on the rights of the party it's directed towards, while in a way asking someone to "kill themselves" could be considered as an indirect death threat as you're asking them to do it and not saying you'll do it yourself. In either case, rito needs to step up against this in a hurry, as their system actually seems rather lenient compared to their competitors right now.

It's kind of the same as saying "I wish they'd all die" about a group of people. I don't think that's illegal. As long as you're not inciting. Idk maybe I shouldn't speak like I know the law hehe. But yeah, I still am pretty sure if you told someone to kill themselves and riot sent a log to the police, they'd be like really? You expect us to take the time to investigate some kid who said kill yourself on a video game? Just sounds like a waste of tax payer dollars, to me. As far as Riot dealing with them, and not the police, sure I guess they could step it up. That's your opinion. I wish they would focus on gameplay behaviors like trolling, but we all got our priorities. Nothing wrong with your opinion, but I think bans for toxic speech are wrong. Even though I think if you do tell people to kill themselves, you're kind of a piece of shit. Maybe just give em permanent chat bans to prevent the arguements in the middle of matches.

So a couple things:

Permanent chat bans didn't work on helping players reform. Riot tried this in the past and it didn't solve anything. Instead, it made toxic players find other means of ruining games usually via intent feeding and other forms of trolling. They've tried this before and it just doesn't work since the players didn't want to reform and just kept playing to ruin games.
Freedom of Speech mostly applies to being censored by the Government if you speak out against them or disagree with them. This doesn't protect you from speaking out against private corporations or individuals (mostly because both can sue you for slander if you don't have proof, etc.).
You can get in trouble actually for verbally/physically wishing death on others. There have been some cases where teenagers were arrested and sent to jail for telling kids to "kill themselves" and other phrases to get them to commit suicide. It's not illegal, but you can get in trouble for it if the person you tell to go kill themselves actually does so. Also, depending on the social setting it can get you kicked out of places too. If you went into a restaurant and said "I want all the Jews to drop dead", then you'll more than likely be kicked out and barred from returning. You wouldn't be arrested since it's not illegal, but it's not really accepted and can get you in trouble with different establishments. Just wanted to clear that up.

As for the topic at hand. I do agree Riot doesn't need to send police to every kid that says "kys" in game. But that player still needs to receive some type of punishment to deter that behavior. The easiest way to teach a lesson is by banning them from playing. If you act toxic, you'll lose your account forever, and honestly the new system has seen quite a lot of success of players reforming unlike before with the permanent chat bans. It's because it's a serious punishment for such rude behavior. Chat bans don't stop you from continuing to ruin the game, but a suspension or a ban does.

Not to mention players have 3 chances before getting permanently banned to cease their behavior. Most do, and the actual ban rate is really low last I heard.

Just my two cents. I think they system they have is good and works as intended. I just think the playerbase itself needs to clean house. Not something Riot can do on their own since they rely on us to send reports haha.

Great read and yes I agree toxic kids who have been neglected by their parents and not taught right from wrong are ruining this game! I feel extremely sorry for them because they only mask that pain by trying to hurt others. And it's just that a mask! A fake one at that! I think an IP ban should be placed for those who are toxic and or a tier out side of ranked or any Q's now that they can go at each other in.

I would vote to have GM's in game to help battle this! And an instant ban option for those admins, if the action is justified.

Even the trolls in here are horrible but the thing is they don't bug me I feel sorry for them that they use this game to baby sit them and their angers in life.

If you really want to understand and know the truth...Yes, if you tell someone to kill them self's in my state in front of a police officer, (I've asked many) It is up to the discretion of the police to charge you with, don't know the term but 'threatening someone'. Punishable by law.

I asked the same cops if done on a video game, and if someone actually threatens to go 'Kill someone or their family' ..All replied the same way! Report to the company of the game, and if you feel the threat was real call local, they will look into it. __

So, here is your answer where I live! I just would Not recommend doing such things. Not just because typing it is such a Jerk move and against the rules.
