Racism in league club names

I have encountered two groups this week while playing s.r drat pick and both were KKK affiliated, both groups knew what they were doing was wrong and hurtful and just changed the name after the game as over like they didn't do anything. one group had even taunted me that riot wont doing anything but request a name change. I do not feel like that is enough of repercussion for such actions. I am a african american girl who just wants to come home after school and enjoy league. I just want to forget the things that are going on in this world for a few hours and have fun. and these insensitive people are stealing that from me and other p.o.c they encounter on the rift. I beg of you please do not overlook this matter.

did they make something with 3 K words just to have the KKK tag? probably. But you can't go banning every "Karate Kid Kings" just cause the words happen to be KKK.

But you should be able to stop the tag "KKK" from existing as a tag. You know what I mean? Most of the club tags made it past filters. :/ So there are some really.... offensive ones out there. It's not even the straight up versions "KKK" but there are other things like my friends tag that you know are meant to be racist and not okay.

could league not allow such tags? sure they could. But if your club is called the "Karate Kid Kings", isn't KKK an appropriate tag name for it?

you shouldnt care about things like that ... there are alot of ignorant people out there a lot of people who enjoy harming others in anyway and it doesnt end in one race they are in all races white black brown asian ... truth is you shouldnt be heart by anyone calling you black .. you should be proud of who you are and as a white man or woman wont mind being called white you shouldnt either ... if you mind it you are giving them the power and ability to abuse you and you accepting that there is something wrong with being black ...

pity the people who have done nothing with their life and the only thing they have to be proud of is the skin of their color because someone with that same color did something meaning full ... these people only deserve that much

My friends club tag was 3/5ths, I had to get him to change it because I didn't agree with it. I do think that they need to at least have a report system in place that lets you report things like this from the client.

Riot isn't interested in improving player experience except in enabling trolls and bottom-tier people to continue what they're doing as long as they keep getting money from it.

Racism in club names? They allow racism in SUMMONER NAMES. There's one on the NA server named "league of %%%%s". Even after reporting, Riot decided this name was appropriate. It's not tacit allowance, it's active acceptance of racism, hatred, and people acting their absolute worst on the Internet.

Unfortunately, the bottom line for Riot is the money they can get from these people, not a positive experience for people playing their game. Businesses will tolerate all sorts of awful things as long as they come out with a profit.

Edit: immediately after posting, it actually censored the summoner name that I typed. But they refuse to do the same thing in name creation. How wonderful.

There is a filter. It can't catch everything. People can bypass it in various ways such as using non-standard characters, ones with accents, etc.

If someone had an inappropriate name, report at end of game screen or in a support ticket, and they will force change the name.

It has no non-standard characters, no accents, nothing. Just a straight slur. I reported that person via end-game screen when I saw them, in a ticket, and on the forums. No action was taken. Their name remains. Just do a search for "league of ****s", where the censored part is a slur for people of Asian ancestry. Riot censors it on the forums but not in summoner names. Literally the same word. Different treatment, depending on whether it's used in a communication setting or whether it's the personal name of someone who might not be spending money if they got banned.

Edit: for clarity, and if you wish to see what I mean, the slur is not new, unusual, "subject to interpretation", or anything else. It's the one that gained its most common use during the Vietnam War of the people in the area.

Once they put the force change on the account, the person will be forced to change their name the next time they'll log in.

Did you file a support ticket explaining why it's offensive? Maybe the original report bugged or didn't make it to the right people.

Like I said, submitted reports in three different ways. This was also something around two months ago, and that person's name is unchanged and still active. Try searching it. I also had secondary reports on them for using homophobic slurs towards the Pantheon player in the game. This is clearly not a one-time thing for either the name or the language. Unfortunately, they still remain.

That’s... interesting. There may be some other reason they didn’t change it, or maybe they picked the same name when they changed it (or a similar one), or it could be a new person. I’m not sure.

That being said, one case does not a pattern make. I have seen many times club or summoner names/tags getting changed due to racism/other prohibited/offensive material.

My other point being that the name wasn't filtered in the first place. That's not a new slur, nor is it a rare one, nor does it have any letters or numbers or symbols to disguise it. They want to prevent anyone from using the world "Riot" in their names, but won't filter out a slur like the one used.

Keep in mind when I submitted the reports/tickets/posts was a month and a half, if not two months ago. Not a few days ago. And while you may have seen some get changed, I have not seen a single one. Especially club tags. I've run across the same offensive club tags from different people several times over a period of weeks.

While your personal experience may differ, at no times have reports I've submitted resulted in name/club/tag changes, and I've submitted a LOT. Unfortunately, Riot does not seem to share the opinion that things like "HOM0" and "N1GRZ" are inappropriate. MORE unfortunately, there are people who are not motivated by monetary concerns who do not feel those are inappropriate. But if their behavior is not corrected, they don't learn or change, much to the detriment of us all.

EDIT: Looking at it again, it hasn’t been played on in a while - it’s possible that that account was banned completely and the name wasn’t force changed as if they force changed it it would open the name up to be taken again - it hasn’t been active in a few days.

If you see it active again, submit another ticket - it’s likely different people/not the same account.

Where in this did i say anything about criticism? I can deal with criticism, what i cant deal with are people who think that i am less deserving of respect based on the color of my skin. As for "getting offended so easily" i rather be offended and try to do something about it than be a shriveled up cock who only can try to bring others down. Words arent action buddy dont make false equivalencies :) There is also a thing called free speech that lets people say whatever they want even if it offends you. You dont have the right to take that away from them just because their words hurt your feelings. And yes I know that Riot is a private business and therefore have a right to ban you for whatever reason they please. That doesnt make it right. Unless the names that offend you are explicitly calling for violent action upon someone they should not be dinged.
