Remaking, Leaverbuster, and AFK-ing

In short, this all needs to be redone, remaking especially. 90% of the time, someone that fails to connect at the beginning of the game merely had a client crash, or perhaps an internet crash, and to count the game as a loss simply isn't fair, especially so when it isn't even their fault that Riot's client is more than faulty. However, I cannot criticize the game without providing changes: - Remaking window should be pushed back by a minute to give the dc'ed player ample time to rejoin or to attempt to fix whatever they need to fix - The dc'd player shouldn't get punished if it is a freak occurrence (e.g. if they currently have a LeaverBuster, give them the LP loss, but if they haven't left a game recently/ dodged more than twice in the past few games and was merely unlucky timing of a power outage or client crash, why punish them? Now onto the LeaverBuster system. Speaking from experience, the system keeps players marked for much too long. I had begun to told friends that played that the timer NEVER resets and that once you hit the 20 minute waits, you were effectively screwed. I did not, however, realize that the system removed the "mark" from your account approximately SEVEN TO EIGHT MONTHS after you last received. Come on Riot. [zombie-brand-facepalm] This is too harsh. While intentionally AFK-ing players should be punished, 7-8 months of possibly having to wait 20 minutes before queueing for 5 games is absurd. Thus I now propose changes to this system:

  • This "mark" of sorts needs to be removed sooner than it was for me
  • LeaverBusters should be longer the more often one leaves games, but that length should decay over time

I'm all for further improving the leaver system, but I have to disagree with some of your points.

The current Remake feature is imperfect, but it's a hard system to make work for everybody. Consider this: Three minutes is already a TERRIBLE point for somebody join your game, because they're entering lane after their opponent has farmed for about 80 seconds. They're going to get further bullied out of lane, and will be virtually useless in any sort of skirmish for quite some time. Extending that time frame only further puts the team at a disadvantage.

Similarly, Leaverbuster is an imperfect system that is simply doing the best job it can. While it would be nice to forgive people with freak disconnects, it's hard to differentiate between them and deliberate AFKs/rage quits. There's also something of an expectation that, if a player is experiencing enough legitimate disconnects to result in a Leaverbuster penalty, they'll take some steps to ensuring that their location is safe to play League in uninterrupted. I mean, I've had a handful of AFKs myself due to freak weather occurrences and the like, but never enough to incur a penalty.
