Why is it that you must be of age to play this game but as adults we can't offend other people..? This is a super competitive game. People are going to get heated. I should have both the freedom to offend and to be OFFENDED. I understand hate speech and racism. Ban. But if i want to tell someone they fucking suck because i believe so, i should have the damn right to do so. This is a just a small form of compelled speech. It's wrong. Chat should either be taken away entirely or completely free to express. Or allow people to talk in game with other random players.

I don't agree. If your chat is threatening team cohesion, then you're not trying to win, which subverts the first thing I quoted from you. Insulting and harassing speech that only worsens a player's/team's concentration on the game takes away from the "super competitive" aspect of anything.

I can't really control how others deal with you, only how I deal with you. Yea, it's a simple click to stop you from bothering me, but that's not always the case for my teammates.

Unfortunately, a lot of people leave the game due to getting insulted by people. Their policies are a reaction to try and reduce toxicity and keep their playerbase as high as possible. I respect your opinion, and I share it to an extent. But try to be understanding of the circumstance. This is a video game, people leave due to toxicity, so the company tries to reduce toxicity through these rules we have. Your freedom of speech protects you from government, not getting booted from Riots game, so I don't know why you're bringing that up. Starbucks can boot you from their store for being an asshole if they want, and so can Riot. You can't be put in jail though for calling someone a piece of garbage, THAT is your freedom of speech.

Riot doesn't want shitty people in their game. If you don't like it then don't agree to their TOS. They're not making you play. Remember they're running a business and people don't want to be bullied on their spare time while trying to enjoy themselves.

Sarcasm sandwich aside, the mute feature is a short-term defense against toxicity, not an excuse for it. Likewise, the report feature is a long-term defense against toxicity.

Riot doesn't want people flaming each other or being assholes. They say it pretty clearly in their Summoner's Code and Terms of Use. If you can't be bothered to follow those simple rules and show respect to your fellow players, Riot can't be bothered to have you playing their game.

And, as an aside, that you fall into the category of "shitty people" is not Eunson's fault, nor is it their intent to insult you. They're simply explaining that Riot doesn't want people going around trying to offend or attack others. Call that group assholes, jerkwads, flamers, what have you, the message would still be the same, and you, by your own actions, would incidentally fall into that category.

Here's the thing though; if your self-expression goes against Riot's rules, you will be punished. And it's nobody's fault but your own that you get punished when you know that your self-expression goes against the rules.

Which goes to this one simple point:

The mute feature is a short-term defense against toxicity in the context of a match. It is not an excuse for toxic behavior. You cannot say "I should be allowed to be toxic because there's a mute feature", because, regardless of the mute feature's existence, the rules clearly state that you're not allowed to be toxic.

To pull directly from the Terms of Use:

5.1. Can I troll, flame, threaten or harass people while using the Riot Services? (No. If you do, you might get banned.)

While using the Riot Services, you must comply with all laws, rules and regulations in the jurisdiction in which you reside. You must also comply with certain additional rules that govern your use of the Riot Services (the “Code of Conduct”). The Code of Conduct is not meant to be exhaustive, and we reserve the right to modify it at any time, as well as take appropriate disciplinary measures including account termination and deletion to protect the integrity and spirit of the Riot Services, regardless of whether a specific behavior is listed in the policy as inappropriate. In addition to the Code of Conduct, please review the Summoner’s Code for additional guidance on exemplary gameplay behavior.

The following are examples of behavior that warrant disciplinary measures:

v. Transmitting or communicating any content which, in the sole and exclusive discretion of Riot Games, is deemed offensive, including language that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, sexually explicit, or racially, ethically, or otherwise objectionable;

And if you disagree with this, then League is probably not the game for you.

Compelled speech shouldn't be a rule. It has nothing to do with my ability to play, or anyone else. Banned for 14 days for telling someone they 'fucking suck' is really not that big of a deal. People need to stop being so easily offended. Like if you can;t be offended in a game like good luck in life lol

People can take offense to constructive criticism if they're not open to suggestion and people won't be banned for offering constructive criticism.

Well, doesn't "people need to grow up" go both ways?

On one hand, it could be seen as, "you need to learn how to deal with people getting mad at you," which I believe is the context you are using referring to when people can't handle you telling them how you feel about their game play.

On the other hand, it could also be seen as, "you need to learn how to deal with adverse situations," which is how to not be toxic while expressing yourself.

You can express anger and frustration without being toxic.

Say you went in to help someone that put themselves in a bad situation because they made a bad play. Say you're the ADC and your support was in the enemy brush and you are last hitting from behind your minions. Jungler comes in and ganks and has your support for sure. You try to go in to help get the support out and you both die BUT had you left the support alone, you would have lived. You can say, "Fucking hell. I shouldn't have gone in to help. I just lost my gold and exp advantage. We both need to try ward more so we don't get further behind. Can you let me know when your trinket is down so we can maybe stagger warding better?"

You're angry and frustrated that you went to help someone who put themselves in a bad situation. They know you're upset and you've also offered them some advice so that helps your lane out and it also softens the blow of what you really mean, ie "you suck for not warding properly and not communicating with me because it takes me longer to tab and look at your trinket and I will probably miss CS trying to figure out why we have no wards."

I don't think compelled speech means what you think it means. First, it's a term in law, a majority of the time concerning the 1st Amendment. The first amendment doesn't apply here. Even if it did, which it doesnt, riot isn't compelling you to say anything. I have started to play with the enter key disabled, and Riot doesn't make (i.e. compel) me to say anything.
