Riot has a system that identifies afk players, but what does that really do?

Nothing.

The team still loses LP, and not even a reduced amount. The afk player receives a slap on the wrist, at most.

If you can forgive LP loss, which I know you can, why can't you tie the two together and save us having to be punished twice?

System identifies losing team has afk player, forgives LP for non afk players. Winning team still gets their normal rewards. Seems pretty simple to me.

I'm literally about to stop playing all together because it happens so much.

They are implementing an early surrender that takes into account the AFK and punishes them and not the rest of the team.

Imagine a team that goes into Ranked. They start to lose. So one of them quits. Now they don't lose LP.

Imagine that same scenario but a player hasn't left. 4 other people start verbally abusing the person with the lowest score in hopes that person leaves so they don't lose LP

Consistent AFK's need to be banned just like toxic chat is banned. Use the same exact path for afks that you do for chat. Problem is solved. Want to bitch about the what if's? Like DC's? You shouldn't be playing online if you get consistent DC's, PERIOD.

Why do you feel the winning team deserves the free points if the losing team doesn't deserve to lose them? If you are going to do anything with rankings for things like this the results should be thrown out completely.

Realistically, AFKs just don't have a significant impact on your rank to begin with. They happen on both teams so it is going to work out in your favor about half the time(statistically slightly more actually). You were going to lose about half of those games anyway. And when you lose you are going to have a slightly easier time winning future games because your rank was lower, but that AFK didn't make you worse at the game. Over time you will earn those back passively. Each game is only a tiny drop in the bucket of your overall rank, individual games just don't have a significant impact on your rank.

If you want to improve the AFK situation, imo, focusing on giving players a way out of the game when someone leaves because the time wasted is the bigger issue. The LP is largely cosmetic.
