Dear other well to do Champions,
I was originally going to post a ticket about that attitude of an ADC in my last ranking game. Then I realized that venomous and volatile people plague this game, so I opted to make a discussion first. My grammar is horrible so please forgive me. A quick background on myself; I've been playing since the beginning, sort of. I stopped playing for quite a few years as the game got more intense and the competitive field grew. I'm a younger guy, married with a new 5 week old son. When I have free time (which is never) I enjoy playing League with some friends. I've recently decided to try and make atleast gold rank this season, not to say I'm good, but to improve my skill in the game overall and to prove to myself I don't completely suck. I've been back for 2 weeks. I've pushed myself to learn an insane amount in that short amount of time. To try and keep up with some most of the seriously devoted players is nigh on impossible. Learning as much as I am, I still make lots of mistakes and find myself spending to long shuffling through items at the shop. League of Legends has quite the learning curve if you want to play in anything above Bronze.
Coming back into the game I've always been a support role type, in everything I play, so I decided to do so here. The Issue with playing support? LoL has an almost faddish hate for support players. A lot times ADCs immediately hate a player just because they're support...and they're still in the champion select . Why? Because honestly most support players suck. They're often people who want to play mid, but aren't good enough, or cant last hit, so they play support. I wanted to not be one of those support. The problem with all of that? This immediate blame for support players has create an expectant, entitled, and almost millennial ADC behavior. I've had some amazing ADCs, guys who look at my mmr or my scores overall and realize I just started and cut me some slack. Then there's the beloved ADC, "I used to be Plat" guys, who spends so much time telling you what to do, pinging you, and spamming chat that they feed. Best of all is when they've done so, forcing you to fall back to tower, and as you try to reply, you get a "report sup for afking at tower"... for 2 seconds to reply to their wall of text (Vin Sanderson cough cough). Basically the ADC never makes mistakes, because even when they do, its the supports fault. Never mind they just jumped in front of a litteral bullet for you. Support is the absolute worst/best role in the game. Rewarding when a team realizes you've contributed and your sitting on 30 assists. Yet, almost game wrecking, when your expected to be the best player on the team. No matter how many wards you place its not enough, the ADC will always blame their over extension and being ganked on your lack of warding. When they jump into a 1v4 it'll be your fault for not taking all the damage and getting them safely to the other side with 4 kills. When theyre running away from you, being chased by god know which ranged mage, pinging so many times you have to mute the sound, it'll be your fault because you werent positioned well enough to catch up to them and take the skill shot that killed them. You can have a max of 3 wards out and another control ward, but you'll always be expected to have the ENTIRE map covered. If theres black on the map and someone dies, guess what? its the supports fault. (Obviously I'm being dramatic). But the rancid, horrible, harassment that comes out of the mouths of these, amazing, godsend to the game, ADCs is where my actual problem is.
My Goal:
I'm committing myself to being a respectful and polite player. It's great watching the LCS games, as pros treat other people with respect. Regardless if Biofrost missed that shield on Lulu or Jensen over extended with out wards and got ganked by Contractz. Their teams didn't rage, get nasty, or harass their teammates. Why? Well you could say it's because they know their supports are good and can do well, but I think its because they're a team. You save your criticisms for after the game, when someones not going to get tilted because they're being ragged on. I hope that some how this kind of attitude can trickle its way into the lower ranks.
There is a time and a place for everything. If you're getting so angry at a game that you're going to give yourself a pulmonary embolism, you probably shouldn't be playing. Yes playing with someone whose just straight up feeding and not playing right is FRUSTRATING. Yes, little mistakes can lead to big losses. But lets be honest, a random person isn't going to listen to advice from someone they don't believe should be giving it. Someone who in all honesty isn't good enough and made enough mistakes themselves that they really shouldn't be giving it. Everyone, EVERYONE, can improve their positioning, over extending, roaming to deep, warding enough, knowing when to engage, when to back off, what items to build, dodging skill shots, mastering skill timing, and when to join a team fight.
My point is, there's absolutely no reason to get so angry you get your account perma banned. There's no reason to treat someone so bad that they never want to come back to LoL. There are younger teens who play this game, who need better examples in the gaming communities. Honestly, I probably wouldn't let my son play the game with how demoralizing and outright horrible players can be. Believe it or not I really don't want my son being told his mother should have used a coat hanger and saved us all the bad support!
I want to be a friendlier player. Maybe I can help others be nicer players as well. I don't know. This probably won't even be read. If it is the comments will be so bad the thread will be locked. Emphasizing my point.
