New Early Surrender System

Okay so I've been weighing out the pros and cons of this in my head, and it seems like a good idea on paper so here goes:

I wish there was an early surrender system implemented in case your game contains one of those insatiable trolls who have a champion that they can really mess the game up with by using the wrong way. I'm looking at you, Kench. Also Ryze. Sometimes Bard if you really plan out the maliciousness.

I just had to endure an entire ARAM game with a Kench who within 30 seconds of the game starting, proceeded to begin swallowing his team mates and spitting them out into the enemy team then diving in himself for the entire duration of the game, all the while taunting in the chat. I get it, ARAM isn't a serious game mode, but come on...that's a little much. I can understand fooling around but that's an Olympic dive from "fooling around" to making a game a boring absolute waste of time.

I can also see how an early surrender vote system for the purpose of surrendering due to an overly malicious troll could be abused, but I don't see how it would be easy to do because it would be a majority vote for it to happen. The only way it could really be abused is if the majority of the team were the ones trolling or if everyone is just being a crybaby about someone on their team. I also don't see how it would be entirely necessary on the Rift, mostly just ARAM and the smaller game modes where everyone is confined to a smaller area and nobody has the option to work a separate lane or avoid the troll somehow. Personally I don't think it would even be used a whole lot (at least by me), but I think it would be super amazing to have just to avoid situations like the one I just had which is not common but still happens more than you'd like it to.

Hard to implement, in practice.

ARAM is a shitfest by definition, and isn't taken seriously by most. You can get aced in the first 90 seconds if you engage poorly. What's to stop a team from getting legitimately aced and ganging up on the guy that gave first blood, calling him a troll and abandoning the game early?

This gets especially messy when you consider that people are often playing champs that they're unfamiliar with in ARAM. I've never actually played Kench, so I could easily swallow and misplace a teammate by accident in an ARAM if he was free that week. Should the game immediately end because of my noob mistake?

In a perfect world, we'd have this functionality. I think, if it were practical, we'd already have it.

I wouldn't mind a /ff@10 option in ARAM that requires unanimous votes.

I think before you propose an idea like this, you might need to consider two things;

  1. Work on the actual hard details of the idea - as far as I see, you only have the rough idea (early surrender in ARAM - which on its own is a wild enough gamemode that it allows Surrender votes at 15, so I'm not sure if you mean Surrender at 10 or what), and didn't actually thoroughly describe your suggestion - you just gave the reason you came up with it and followed with the hypothetical pros and cons. We still don't fully understand your idea, because you didn't fully form it - so everyone is left to assume their own interpretations of it.
  2. If you're going to make a poll for it, take it seriously. Like, for real, because your poll basically consists of "Question: Am I smart or am I a crybaby", with options being A. Mock the OP, B. Laud the OP for a decent idea, or C. Mock the OP more. If you make your poll so goofy and self-loathing, with no seriousness taken to the main body, you're only making it easier for people to completely disregard your idea and your post as a whole.

How I would suggest to go about these improvements;

  • For formulating the idea, separate it into three parts; the Reasoning, Idea, and Following Thoughts.
  • The Reasoning should be basically as you put here, but you should consider trying to subtract the personal nature of it, perhaps rephrase it as a broad statement - "Because ARAM is such a non-serious and hectic gamemode, it's bound to attract a number of trolls who take full advantage of some of the Champions they're given. I myself have had some such matches where one person causes the entire game to go completely downhill, which brings me to my idea:".
  • The Idea should be fairly thoroughly thought out. If it functions like an already existing mechanic, you should understand how the mechanic works across the game; Surrender votes in ARAM at 15m, whereas in Summoner's Rift they open at 20m, with Early Surrender being an option at 15m. Early Surrenders in Summoner's Rift require unanimous agreement (all five players have to vote "yes"), where post-20m Surrenders only require Vast Majority Vote (4/5).
  • With this, you have to really think; "how would this work in a gamemode that's often over so fast that by the time the Surrender Vote is available, you're already down to your Nexus Turrets?" Why would an Early Surrender (which, as far as it's been used in League, requires unanimous vote) be remotely effective in matches of ARAM with trolls? The ARAM Early Surrender would have to work differently than the Summoner's Rift Early Surrender, which in all honesty might cause some issues for people who go between modes.
  • Lastly, the Following Thoughts are - for the most part, how you provided. Details of what you think the pros and cons might be, potential abuse cases, etc.

  • As for the Poll, instead of writing some half-honest, half-off-topic question with no seriousness in the answer choices, make a short, simple conclusion question and make the answers honest and serious. For example, I'll take yours, write my observations in full parentheses, and write what I would consider an improved version with thoughts.

Original Poll: So am I being a crybaby about this or would it be a decent idea? (Again; half-mocking, half-honest, belittling your opinion offers nothing.) 1) Hell yeh (I'm not sure which part this is in agreement of; mocking you, or agreeing with you? Either way, it only offers confusion.) 2) Good concept but needs work (this is an okay answer choice; it's clear, and provides a succinct, pre-thought counterargument.) 3) QQ some more (this is, like half of the poll's question, serving no purpose other than to mock and derail the main post.)

Alternate Poll: Should ARAM have an Early Surrender option in case of players trolling? (Short, sweet, and distills the main post into a simple question.) 1) Yes, it should. (Simple answer with clear agreement to the proposal.) 2) Maybe, though it needs work. (Another clear answer; modest agreement with suggestion of further thought.) 3) No, it shouldn't. (Simple answer with clear disagreement.)

It may also be ideal to add an option 4. "Maybe, though I have suggestions" to prompt people with ideas to add to comment and help potentially refine the idea. This is of course totally optional, but it can help in the event that fully formulating the idea is proving difficult.

That said, I don't personally have any thoughts regarding ARAM since I don't play it, so for my opinion I'll just defer to people like JOoO.
