Should Riot allow chat restrictions to be controlled by other players?

Ok so I just got a 10 GAME chat restriction. Just because I got in an argument with a toxic MissFortune that was cussing me out. Then this person gets their "friends" in the game to report me then I get a chat ban. I reported them but of course it didn't work because I didn't get the "thanks to your report they were banned" or whatever it says. Should people that are level 30 really get to decide? They were not in the game. If you read JUST my chat of course it looks like I'M the toxic one!!! Its funny because it says "you are one of the 5 percent of the people that are toxic". Really? That's funny because I have seen MUCH MUCH worse people on league. Riot you are killing your game...

What you type is in your control.

If you can't resist the troll bait that's on you.

There are a few misconceptions here I want to dispel:

Then this person gets their "friends" in the game to report me then I get a chat ban.

Punishments are calculated per game, not per report. If 9 people in a game report you, it has roughly the same weight as if only one person did so.

I reported them but of course it didn't work because I didn't get the "thanks to your report they were banned" or whatever it says.

This pop-up only appears if your report was the final one that led to a punishment, every other valid report that went into a particular player's punishment doesn't trigger that message.

Should people that are level 30 really get to decide? They were not in the game.

? If you are referring to the Tribunal, it has been out of action for years. Punishments are handled by Riot directly, based on player reports from those that were in the game with you.

Overall, if you receive a chat restriction it's either based on a pattern of numerous games or one with a particularly high spike in toxicity. Regardless of how other players were acting, your chat restriction came because your behavior was deemed unacceptable. If someone is being toxic and cussing you out, ignore him/her, don't retaliate.

Is it too hard to consider that possibly both of you were toxic. You just happened to have more of a history of it since punishments are based on multiple games not just one.

This is true, other players shouldn't be the only ones who are deciding if one should get banned/chat restricted or not. If Riot wants their game's community to be a good one, they're going to have to fix many of the problems, from balance to the Tribunal. People even report ME when I'm saying throughout the game "good job guys", "keep it up", "don't forget item 3285!", "wow! nice play!", "we can still win!", "good luck, have fun!", etc., everything you would want a teammate to say...while others are just cussing all the time and don't get chat restrictions. rito pls fix 90% of the community so we can play in peace :3

EDIT 1: I've read all of the recent comments and this has gotten popular fast. It is true that the Tribunal is down, but Riot-controlled or Community-controlled, it needs to be fixed. People are false-reporting now too, and I've seen SO many people say SO many rude things all the time.

EDIT 2: I'm back again, and, after 2 hours of shopping, this board has gotten popular (sadly with -9 votes, at the time). I don't know what the downvotes are for, there is nothing wrong with this board. We Summoners are trying to have a discussion while somebody here is being my perfect definition of "toxic". This whole thing is going alright, but knowing more about the Tribunal still doesn't affect how one is reported while the others aren't.

EDIT 3: These boards and forums need a mute button....

EDIT 4: Sorry guys! I just can't resist all the edits. :3 Every minute, more people read this post. Some downvote. Some upvote. Still, I do not know why these posts and boards are getting downvoted. Shouldn't we want people to try and work together? I hope Riot fixes this community, at least a little bit, so we can start getting into games without everyone being so toxic all the time. This is a good game, and we should be in teams with good people.

EDIT 5: This is probably my final edit since I'm debating in my head whether or not I should remove my posts. I STILL don't know why EVERYBODY IS DOWNVOTING my comments and this board itself!!! There's nothing wrong with it, we're just talking about how these reports should be fixed...I don't know why all these people are hating on it....

2 Points:

  1. The number of reports received doesn't matter. 1 or 9, it only checks if there were any reports. That's to protect solo players from mob reporting.

  2. The punishment notice only appears if you have the last report needed for a punishment. Just because you don't see the message, doesn't mean it was useless.

Well, just because they didn't get banned doesn't mean they weren't punished.

Just because they weren't punished doesn't mean the won't ever. Sometimes it takes a pattern. They may have just gotten a warning this time.

Not all offenses are equal. If you used a slur, you gonna get punished right away, by an automated system. If you are negative and toxic, but use appropriate language (even some swearing seems to be okay most of the time), then you won't get picked up by the system, and an actual human person has to review the report. That takes time.

Other than that, I'll just echo what others have said; to not get reported, don't stoop to their level. You don't get to break rules just because they did. "They started it" is a childish excuse, and Riot won't accept it (good, they shouldn't).
