Whatever happened to chat restrictions?

Recently my account received a 14-day suspension for me saying some questionable things in game. To add some context, the game noted above wasn't going so well and my bot lane started to flame me and my duo (the jungler) for not doing so well. In an attempt to be funny, I said some pretty questionable things in order to lighten the mood for my duo and I. I can understand that this isn't acceptable behavior, but isn't this a bit much for a one game offense? Aside from saying those two things, I'm pretty sure my team would've still reported me and my duo just because we weren't doing well. Out of 4 years of playing league, I've seen some pretty toxic comments, some of which don't even get reported. I know that's no excuse for what I said, but I don't think it's fair that I get a 14-day suspension off the bat. Shouldn't I get a chat restriction first? I don't really think about what I say much, but I remember getting a notification telling me that everyone has bad days, which would prompt me to think about what I say. Where did that notification go to?

Encouraging suicide is zero tolerance and will get you banned the first time it happens.

I hate to contradict you but not everyone types their rage out on the keyboard... I myself have never typed anything mean on league on all 4 years of my playing. IF i get mad about something in game i speak it outloud so i will not be mean to real people while playing a game.

Everyone has lived different lives, depending on what life you have lived does your kindness or hatred show.

No they haven't I've never told someone to kill themselves over a video game. You know why? Because I'm not a child. Putting words in our mouth like we are all as low as you. Sorry someone has to be on the bottom, guess that's you bub don't drag others down with you.

Even repeating it will get you banned. It doesn't matter the context.

Zero tolerance for the phrase, acronym or its meaning being conveyed.

Telling another player to kill themselves over something as silly as a video game is not really behavior conducive to building a courteous, sportsmanlike community.

It also violates one of Riot's zero tolerance policies, which means that earns an immediate 14 day ban.

Agreed, way too harsh. I'm seeing a lot of threads like this recently and prepare for down-votes. You said the magic 3 letters that result in an instant 14 day ban according to riot, and people seem to be ok with that. Idk why.

Slow down. Do you really believe that any sane person would actually want someone to kill himself when they write that? It's an abbreviation that has developed into almost a meme in the gaming culture (not saying that its a good one). Memeing or not, I don't genuinely believe that anyone would actually be mad enough to truly wish death upon someone from a video game.

I agree with you because that's how I joke around with my friends. In fact that's how most people joke around now, but I'm pretty sure Riot just wants to make sure anyone playing this game with the thought of suicide in the back of his/her mind would completely be free from people possibly tipping that scale. I can assure you that two instances I used the phrase were meant as a joke, but that's not really much of an excuse. In my opinion, Riot's punishing system is a little bit off right now, seeing as how the bot lane duo in that game were most definitely more toxic than I am, but I can't do much about it since I forgot to report them after the game.

Doom Bot Talon had his own mega thread where he felt the same way about his punishment but if you're gonna play a game why not read the rules and policies to see what incurs a punishment ? Or you could just act civilized and not get bans... These are simple options

Threads in this section of the boards dont get much accomplished, because they are instantly mass downvoted by people who are unwilling to put themselves in the offender’s shoes.

The offender got what they had coming in the vast majority of complaints posted on this board. I don't need to put myself in the shoes of someone who can't control their chat to determine that I wouldn't ever want them on my team.

I can say the exact same thing until 2 days ago. As well as being honor level 5 on my account. The difference between you and I is that I'm not conceited enough to believe that good people are above making mistakes.

Words have different meanings to different people. The only real mistake some of us have made is to use the wrong words to express ourselves. Do you really think that typing something like k*s is a genuine encouragement?

Which means using words that have a history of being insults is a terrible idea.

You were just giving me a hard time about empathy, you know? Do you want the rift to be a place where telling people to kill themselves and calling them %%%s is normal? I sure don't.

Do you really think it matters? Why is it on the person on the recieving end of abuse to determine the intent of the person BMing them, when the fact that they're being BMed at all is the actual problem?

No, that's not acceptable. If everyone were held to this standard, riot would be in massive debt. Being a good person is about understanding other people's circumstances and being able to decide something justly and objectively, not writing people off based on an automatic detection system without exploring the full issue.

But that's just it - everyone is held to that standard. Automatically. Say those words, get reported, get a 2 week.

Riot's financials are just fine.

The full issue is that those words are said. The answer is to punish those that do so.

there is a zero tolerance policy for hate speech and encouraging others to harm themselves. Such action will skip punishment tiers, that's how serious Riot treats it.

14-day ban is a warning already. be glad it wasn't a permaban.

RIOT discourages mean language use towards others. They extremely hate promoting suicide, or any curse set upon others. People get perma banned for saying mean stuff like that, 14 day is not that bad. Next time, just mute the annoying one because RIOT does not care about if you only did that one time or something, but anything that harms or ruins others emotions or game should be punished. You should have said something along the lines : flamming would not help the team and also make the game less enjoyable. I suggest you to work hard and everyone should try their best from now on, most importantly have fun! And if they continue to annoy, mute him and if he says anything that harms your feelings, send RIOT a report.

They hate promoting suicide and yet they promote gambling and underage spending. Quality logic.

"underage spending" what even...

I don't think there's a single jurisdiction in which there is an age limit for possessing or spending money.

In Germany there is... ish.

There is a lot of legalese and general ambiguity in that law (that typically sides with parents), but the short version is: For kids between 7 and 18 parents get to decide what they are allowed to spend their money on. If the kid buys something that they were not specifically allowed to, that transaction is not legally effective, meaning the parents have the right to demand a full refund.

Now, all of that said, that law doesn't imply Riot is wrong in taking the money of underage players. What it really means is that Riot actually can't effectively abuse "underage spending" (for German players), because they need to be prepared to give all that money back.

No worries the only infraction int those 5 lines is the KYS statement and it alone as others have mentioned is enough to warrant the 14 day

You say that, however you probably would if given the chance to since the current game environment is pretty lenient on what can be said since most people don't even report you, and when they do it hardly even counts. Granted, I'm one of the few people that actually isn't toxic since I see no benefit to it. I'm just letting it be known that you can't play the innocent card without someone actually knowing you personally.
