Has this happened to anyone else?

So I haven't played this game since 2015 after my friend stopped playing, haven't given it any thought since he had no intention of picking the game back up. However, a co-worker at my new job piqued my interest again as he plays and wants to play with me. So I tried logging in, and lo and behold I've forgotten my password since I hadn't played in three years. I put in my username and tried to recover. Logged into my old email (that I also hadn't been using since the high school years) I found that I actually remembered my username wrong (sorry to whoever received an email for that). How I found my correct username you ask?

Well, it was attached to a ban notification...From April. No, not April 2015. April, April April, from 2018. So I sat scratching my head and wondered if Riot had a cock up and banned the wrong person. So I logged in my account and checked my match history (i actually wanted to see if anything happened to my precious skins, but there seemed to be no way to check), and to my surprise, I found a series of games played in April, and they were all wins (except one).

I knew I didn't play those matches and then suddenly forget about them because my sister's birthday was on the 22nd and I definitely wasn't playing league of legends at her birthday party full of 8yr olds. As well as the fact that I didn't recognize a lot of the items in the hero builds. Heck, I didn't even recognize one of the champions (must have been introduced within the 3 years gap).

The real question is this, how do I prove to Riot that I wasn't the one on the account during that string of games? Can they check the IP address of the games in question?

tl;dr : Acc banned, dindunuffin (wasn't me, dont even know what the ban is for since the email didn't say), how do i prove it?

What does it exactly say when you log in?

Riot sometimes 'shield bans' accounts if they suspect it has been compromised. In that case you have to contact support and they will ask you a series of questions to verify you are the original owner of the account. You don't have to answer all of them perfectly.

If they account WASN'T shield banned then you can't get it back, even if you were hacked. The account owner is responsible for what happens on the account.

That's what the email said. I reckon if it was a shield ban, it would've been done when the first game was played in April 23rd. I don't know why I'm being held responsible even though I never went to a phishing website or otherwise compromised my account on my own though. I'd be pretty miffed if this account from season 1 gets banned for reasons out of my control like this...

Welp, that means who ever played on your account used 3rd party software. (That's what the 9001 means).

You should still contact support, you might get lucky.

Who ever played on your account definently got through because of something you did. Maybe you reused passwords, or you had a virus or something else, but someone got your password and used your account to script.

Unless a hacker figured out how to actually bypass the login system (probably impossible), the only way they could get onto your account would have been through another insecure website where you used the same password, or from you through malware.

Even though you might not have intended this, they hold you responsible because anyone can claim to have been hacked. It'd be so easy to just say you've been hacked if that meant getting away with something like scripting (note: I am not acussing you of scripting, or saying that you're lying, but it would be pretty easy for you to.)

Well, support replied my ticket and agreed that someone else was on my account, and to unban it ( im actually pretty ass at league, hitting gold was the highest i ever got, and the string of matches were all A to S+ ratings [i actually have no idea what this means as i stopped playing before this rating system was in place]). So i guess i got saved due to the fact i was garbage at the game. hooray...?

Im glad to hear that :)

One of my friends was banned while on vacation and someone got ahold of his account. I understand why Riot couldn't just unban him, but it was sad anyways.
