Unnecessary Ban

Let me start off by saying that I know it takes previous instances of being reported to receive a two week ban. This post is about receiving punishment for a game I believe I should not have received punishment for. I just received a two week ban for saying "fuck off" once in a game. I understand that I could have said "go away" or something not a "cuss word" but someone was physically griefing my lane. This is one of the problems I find with League, when a player is physically griefed and says something in chat about it they receive the punishment over the original troller.

The situation starts with Rengar on my team just diving to enemy blue buff and dying before I could get there, to which he proceeded to ping at me insinuating it was my fault. He then comes to my lane when he respawns and starts taking CS, for multiple waves. At this point, I am being physically trolled and try to ping at him multiple times to go away and leave my lane. When he proceeds to keep spamming Q on my CS I finally say "fuck off" and he leaves. Now at this point Rengar and I have no more trouble for quite a while.

Later, Gragas on the enemy team tries to gank me and I manage to kill him and my opposing laner for a double kill. Gragas proceeds to taunt me saying "you're gonna have fun this game azir" insinuating he's going to camp me or something. A couple times throughout the game I make a comment whenever I kill Gragas about how "Im having fun" because he has been taunting me like he was gonna slap my face in League. I see four taunts in my game chat returned to Gragas "I'm having buckets o fun", "fun stuff", "having fun gragas?", and "are you touching yourself over there gragas". I don't think this is excessive or negative behavior as he said many more things to me and at first it seemed in the spirit of fun trash talk.

At some point Gragas starts crossing the line and really laying it across all chat and I decide its best to just say "reported muted" and drop it. Shortly before this Tryndamere had stated he would no longer fight because he was having a bad game and started AFK farming top lane. Rengar is also making ridiculous solo dives to the point of intentionally feeding as well. I had said gg and asked for reports from the enemy team because I thought we were about to vote forfeit. I am being physically trolled and realize I have past offenses so I am trying to calmly end the game without flaming anyone. My team decides not to forfeit.

At the end of the game Gragas is still salty about the trash talk even though he has won and tells Rengar and Tryndamere they should report me. Here is the real issue I have, Three players who have just verbally harassed me and physically trolled the team and myself proceed to report me. This leads to the robot picking up the "fuck off" from being griefed at the beginning and given my history gives me a two week ban. I did not even have time to fill out a report for the players who had griefed me.

I really tried to just mute people and end the game without flaming people back when it got extremely heated towards the end, I was trying to reform from previous offenses. It seemed like light trash talk in the spirit of fun at first and I wanted to stop when it to get heated. I really don't feel like one fuck off from having someone grief me at 3:00 means I should get reported when I kept calm late game when everyone was verbally abusing. I understand I had previous offenses, I am not arguing with that. I am just saying as someone trying to work their way back up to good graces this seems unfair. Below is the chat from the game in question.

The f*** off part is probably what got you flagged by the system for Verbal Abuse. Your Report Card that was provided to you by the Instant Feedback System probably mentioned that this ban would be a 14-day ban, so you should probably take the warning seriously because the next ban is likely a permaban. Just mute everyone and focus on your own gameplay. If you can't stand to look at the chat, then click on it and drag it off your screen with your mouse. It's best to just ignore negative players and focus on winning the game, because that will likely lead you to positive results.

There's more than just the fuck off bit in that chat log. You degraded team members by telling them they were the reason the team is losing, and you were Report Calling by telling people they were being muted or reported and telling the other team in /all chat to report some of your teammates. Report Calling is absolutely useless because it only takes one report to flag the match for review by the Instant Feedback System, and therefore all it does is incite drama. Keep those things in mind the next time you are on the Rift, and we've all been there before where teammates are being rude, flaming, and griefing but if you speak up to defend yourself or retaliate you may just be giving them ammunition to report you as well. Good luck in the future, bro!

Okay. I need to clear up a misconception here. You were not given a 14 day suspension for saying "fuck off."

From the Instant Feedback System FAQs

PUNISHMENTS GENERALLY FOLLOW A BASIC ESCALATION PATH:

  • First Offense: 10 Game Chat Restriction
  • Second Offense: 25 Game Chat Restriction
  • Third Offense: Two Week Suspension
  • Fourth Offense: Permanent Suspension

However, it is possible to skip to a Two Week or Permanent suspension based on the severity of the behavior in the game. Excessive negative behavior can result in a Two-Week or Permanent suspension at any time without having a chat restriction on the account.

As you said yourself, you had previous punishments. The progression of punishments will automatically move you from the 25 game chat restriction to a 14 day suspension if you have not dropped down to the lower punishment tier (by showing good behavior).

Pinging someone back is fine, even telling them to "fuck off," while considered rude, by itself won't get you punished. But when you add it to some of the other things in this log, it will add up to a punishment. The comment to Gragas asking whether he was touching himself was a bit over the line, and the continued asking for reports and saying that it would get people chat banned falls into the category of harassment. That's the sort of behavior you will want to avoid in the future.

I'm sure you've seen the email that accompanied your suspension by now, and will be well aware that this is the final step before a permanent suspension of the account. For your sake, I would urge you very strongly to /mute all at the beginning of the matches if you do not think you can keep from having these sorts of interactions with trolling teammates. If someone is griefing or trolling, report them. Let Riot handle it. Don't try to take matters into your own hands. It will only end up backfiring on you. And at this point, you have no more chances left, no more warnings. One more incident, and you could very easily end up permabanned, losing access to any rank, skins or champions that you have. It is not worth losing your account to call someone a name and tell them you are reporting them, and ask someone else to report them with you.
