Ideas to perhaps lower toxicity

Hi Riot,

Just putting in my two cents to throw an idea out there:

Perhaps it would lower toxicity across the board if there was a warning system in place where people that will be punished soon (as in the next 1-3 games if they get reported) would get a warning by the client post-game and in the beginning of the game.

"You have been toxic recently, remember, sportsmanship helps win games!" or something akin to the Korean Client's "remember not to play so much" message.

I think a lot of toxicity in this games stems from the personal commitment each game requires, and how disassociated from your teammates you are through the internet. People can forget, and let off steam to what seems like nobody in an increasingly stressful situation they may feel helpless in. A reminder in the game might be useful at "pulling" players back into the reality of their actions. Maybe even before they type.

I don't think most players that are toxic are toxic because they are bad people, but rather are toxic because of league's stressful environment almost demands an outlet. Kids, and definitely many adults don't have the ability to control their emotions in such an environment, and especially adults who use league as the outlet from their stressful day to day.

While I think the punishment system now is perhaps just a notch subpar (because the punishments don't really fit the crimes, and the truly toxic don't really lose anything because they are typically willing to just start anew).

Anyway, just thought I'd throw in a suggestion in what I assume is the constant brainstorming by your teams.

Thanks :^)

I'd love if their was a chat filter that would just disable your chat if you say anything that jumps punishment tiers. another thing that people have pushed for is a perma mute instead of perma ban if they are only causing a problem in chat.

They tried the permamute before. They found that most of those hit with a permamute would just switch to worse ways of being toxic including trolling and intentionally feeding. Eventually Riot decided to not do permamutes anymore because of that.

Well ok, i've just seen so many people requesting them from riot this year alone i thought it would be a good thing.

Yeah, it's a common request, but it's been tried before and found to be ineffective, as FlamingEnemy stated.

Similarly, there used to be a "level 20 challenge" where banned players could earn their main account back by leveling a new one to level 20 while exhibiting good sportsmanship, but it had an overwhelmingly poor success rate.

"a notch subpar" - i don't think so - more like, the worst system ever created in gaming history

Fix the matchmaking so teammates aren't perpetual liabilities in all low ELOs.

or

Implement individual skill metrics/ranks based on individual performance in a game.

Then toxicity will disappear. If I'm 10-0 in my lane and get an S+ and rank up despite the team losing, I don't care about how bad the other lanes are, I got my points. I have no problem. They lose their lane, they lose their rank. I win my lane, I win my rank. Fair is fair, I'm not mad at them until their suck causes me to derank.
